Since 1965, Joe Allen has been a quintessential New York restaurant serving a classic American menu in the heart of the Theater District. Just two blocks from Times Square, it has been a favorite of Broadway performers, locals, and tourists for almost 50 years.
Please note that we begin taking reservations 7 days in advance starting at midnight online and at 11 a.m. over the phone.
Parties of 6 or more should call the restaurant directly.
Due to the high volume of reservations we receive for pre- and post-theater, we can only guarantee a table for a maximum of two hours. If you would like more time, please contact the restaurant directly to make your reservation.
We loved the ambiance and the service; it was great. I was disappointed in the food I ordered, the tostado. My other dining companions ordered the burgers and were happy with them.
Great good and great service! Perfect night out for dinner before going to see a broadway show.
The hamburger was rare and fresh, the quiche a knockout, not a chocolaholi but the chocolate pudding cake should not be missed.
Higher expectations with the food and I had to continue asking for water. However, the staff was quick to give me the ticket!
We had a great time with family before the matinee of To Kill a Mockingbird. Love this place!
While the food was generally quite good, the service was lacking. This started with the chaos at the front desk, where three people studiously ignored us until we caught the eye of the coat-checker, who found our table (we had reservations and our guests had already arrived).
Then we Wai am 20 min before a drink order was taken, and the bottle of wine took a considerable time to arrive.
There's a difference be attentive but measured service, and just slow, and this was in the second category.
Visiting NY & a revisit to this cozy restaurant.
Joe Allen is my favorite go-to, pre/post theater restaurant in NYC. It’s classy in a low-key manner, the staff are friendly, service is great and the food is always simple and delicious.
A lively, fun after theater spot. Menu was limited due to some construction issues they are having but all four of our meals were excellent and well prepared. Bread is good and service was great! I would go again in a heartbeat
A classic after-theatre haunt. Great burgers, wonderful salads, a super roasted chicken. Nothing fancy, just good solid comfort dining surrounded by theatre folks.
Still waiting for the gas to be reconnected so they can offer their full menu.
A delightful experience. Perfect for pre theater venue.
Love this pkace
One of my staples. Service and food are always excellent, and the atmostphere can't be beat.
Service and food was outstanding! When I made the reservation I told them it was my girlfriend's birthday and our dinner was for a pre-theater 7PM show. We had a cozy table away from the bulk of the other tables and ambience was comfortably romantic. Waiter very efficient and friendly. I needed to charge my phone and he offered to get it done for me while we ate. They brought a very appropriate desert with a small candle in it for my girlfriend and then left not embarrassing her with a big show by allowing me to sing HB quietly to her. Highly recommend for dinner any time for any occasion. perfect location close to the theater district.
Not worth the money . 30 dollars for a crab and lobster roll. The roll itself was ok at best but it wa served with crisps?? I'd rather have bought a bag of crisps and saved myself a lot of money. The waiter was nice.
We all had a fabulous time. Food, service, and ambience were perfect.
In town from L.A. to see 4 shows in 3 days. Joe Allen’s is a long-time tradition and even though the kitchen is going thru renovations, the burger was divine, as always. Hubby had quiche and loved it!
Always love Joe Allen after the theater.
Pre matinee..feels like we are hanging out at an old friend’s house..
Not fancy but Great ambience and comfort. Just what you want for pub experience. And well prepared menu.
Great! Great food with a great friend.
Always fun we missed the Liver & Onions though as they’re remolding their kitchen.
Lovely... Joe Allen’s remains unchanged and remains a good experience .... it’s legendary ... fabulous bar.... and Joe is still in the building.
Perfect menu for late night. Great service and it was easy to sit and have a conversation without a lot of noise.
As always, fine food and service with nice, authentic Broadway ambience.
A stellar experience as usual, despite the fact that their gas line is currently down (October 2019).
Liked it very much. Unfortunately, the kitchen has been having construction, so the menu now is quite limited.
That being said, I would definitely try it again when they’re back to their full menu.
We were looking forward to a great meal before seeing our theater show, and as usual, Joe Allen never disappoints. It was fantastic.
Great place to go before the theater. A real NY experience!
Have been going to Joe Allen since I was in college. And that's a long, long time!
Wait staff friendly & very accommodating! Will definitely return! Thank you!
Atmosphere and service were very good. We were seated promptly for a Sat lunch reservation. The waitress was excellent. Unfortunately, there was a very limited menu due to kitchen repairs. The food was a let down. Caesar salad with cubed chicken and a lobster roll on an I grilled hot dog bun with potato chips from a Lays bag. Maybe another time but will probably not return.
As always, pre-dinner the bartenders were attentive, professional, and excellent drink masters. At dinner all staff (host, waitstaff, etc.) were friendly, welcoming and pros. We are lightly but the food was great. Thanks, all!
I love Joe Allen's and dine there any time I am in NYC. The experience wasn't its normal 5-star because the menu was limited due to a gas line failure. Nonetheless, we had a great time and excellent dinner.
Good as usual
We always stop in to Joe Allen for a pre show or après meal. Food is always consistently good, quick service and pleasant, convivial atmosphere.
Lovely late lunch for a friend's birthday.
Joe Allen makes the BEST dirty martinis...which is a problem because I'm spoiled for other places.
Always Amazing! Joe Allen the iconic Manhattan theatrical legendary place to be!
