joan's in the Park Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely wonderful. Joan’s has been on my list to try for a long time. It finally worked out and was a fantastic experience. Our server was great, the food was great and the overall experience was...... great! This restaurant deserves all the accolades and you should experience it for yourself.
Lovely, but small place. Highly recommend reservations. Scallops & pork shank, meatball appetizer & salad were AMAZING! The Grouper special & beef cheeks were not great. Steer clear of those items.
The desserts we tried, carrot bar & pudding were definitely worth the calories. We hope to go back, because the food that we liked was really fantastic & our service was great.
Joan's never disappoints. From start to finish they are one of the best spots for really good food, prepared very well and served beautifully. Started with salad, followed by scallops on top of grains with mint and just a hint of mild heat. The fish special on top of purple sweet potatoes was also delicious. And the brussel sprouts were a great side.Matt was an outstanding waiter! Highly recommend joan's
Joan's lived up to it's considerable reputation. Three of us chose the spot for a small celebration. We had a couple of the starters: corn dumplings and crunchy shrimp and potato gnocchi. The corn dumplings were satisfyingly crunchy; the "in season" shrimp was wild from the Florida coast and outstanding. The gnocchi was pronounced as among the best she had ever eaten by the gnocchi connoisseur in the group. We all would have been pleased to select either dish as an entree.
Two had one of the evening's specials - filet mignon - and another had the beef cheeks. There were no disappointments. The filet eaters remarked that even when the steak got cold, the rare centers were delicious. Both had planned to eat half, take half home, but not a morsel remained on the plate.
We were especially appreciative of the fact that Joan served 100% grass-fed beef and much of what we consumed was organic and local. We cherish a white-tablecloth establishment that cares so much about the food they serve us.
Two of us had wine from the extensive wine list and were satisfied with our selections. If we have one complaint about Joan's, it would be that there are no interesting non-alcoholic beverages for the non-drinker. Run of the mill soda products do not fit the fine dining profile (and they are boring and chemical-laden.) There are so many excellent craft sodas, ginger and root beers and N-A craft cocktails that could be offered. I would encourage the bar to try harder in this area.
Two of our party are always cold, and Joan promised and delivered a warm spot in the tiny restaurant. Another was burdened with crutches, and Joan and the staff were kind enough to open doors and make it easy for us to get around. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive, and made some very helpful suggestions.
Our dinner was not cheap, but worth every penny. As people who strive for organic, sustainable dining, we plan to be back. Again and again. Thanks, Joan.
This is a wonderful restaurant with attentive and appreciative owners and staff. The room has energy but isn't overwhelming, and the food is delightful. It is worth the trip alone for the butterscotch dessert! It may look small and unassuming from the outside, but it is worth finding this gem down Snelling.
We had our 16th anniversary dinner there. Wait staff was very attentive. Gnocchi appetizer was delicious. We started out with great cocktails from their fairly extensive list of interesting stuff. The rest of the meal was delicious. Saved room for their signature brown butter pudding, which comes with a little rubber spatula so you can get every last delicious bit.
We enjoyed a very nice anniversary dinner at Joan's. It was a busy Friday evening but our special occasion was recognized by both the waitstaff and the owners (who threw some cute "party hearts" on the table and were out and about during the evening which was really nice!). We arrived a bit early, enjoyed a drink at the bar and were seated promptly at our requested time. We took our servers advice and ordered an appetizer and salad to share, two mains and dessert. Each course came out promptly and was well prepared - especially the filet which was PERFECTLY cooked - one of two daily specials we enjoyed that evening. The menu was creative and approachable with nice pairings of flavors and textures. The only disappointment food-wise was the bread which was warm, but flavorless (note - we do a lot of bread baking so perhaps our standards are a bit high). Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Seating by the patio door was a bit cool on this late fall evening. Would request to be seated towards the front of the restaurant if you have a larger party. The restaurant is small and intimate, so be prepared for close tables. It can also get a bit loud if the tables and bar are at capacity. Overall we enjoyed our evening and would certainly recommend Joan's for a special occasion.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed in our Joan's meal. All the reviews were 5 stars and the menu looked wonderful, but, the food was. The salads were overdressed and the shrimp appetizer was over sauced. Our main dishes arrived less then hot - if I hadn't known better, I would have thought the food had been left under a warmer - the scallops were dried out!
This was our second visit and Joan's did not disappoint. We had bragged about it to friends, and they were eager to try it out. They loved it too. We not only love the food, but the size of the restaurant and friendly, professional servers. Excellent all around. Great job. Thank you.
As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a smile. When made reservation informed them it was our anniversary. From Joan who sat us at our table to our waiter and the chef all made a point to wish us a happy anniversary. Food was wonderful as was the wine and service. Our first time here and probably not the last.
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic dinner there this weekend. Everything was so delicious. And the server was excellent, very personable and knowledgeable. He paired a red wine to each of our dishes, and they were all wonderful. There were plenty of unique, seasonal ingredients on their menu as well, so this would be a great restaurant for anyone looking to try something a little different each time they come. It's very small however so I would highly recommend making a reservation.
A most enjoyable experience - not only for the food, but the fact that the entire staff really CARES about you as a customer and want each customer to have a complete satisfying dining experience.
These really know how to operate a high quality operation from management to wait staff, menu creation, food preparation and presentation and all that goes with it.
A completely professional business operation.
This was our 3rd visit to Joan's, and as with the first 2 experiences, this was a terrific evening. Although the menu is fairly small, there are usually a couple of featured entrees as well as periodic changes in starters and salads.
We were there for a friends birthday, and from her arrival it was a special treat for her. Being greeted by the owner, confetti on the table, fabulous cocktail menu and nice wine list got the party off to a great start. The food is always beautifully prepared, and we tried different starters. The butternut squash tortellini was delicious and left us wanting more. The short rib meatballs were great, especially the tomato/pepper relish served with it. I LOVE their take on Caesar Salad.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a special meal. The tab definitely adds up, but it is well worth it.
Joan's In The Park is our favorite restaurant. Have never been disappointed. Hosted our son, who was visiting out of town, and he was very happy with his meal and the superior level of service. I had requested a corner table as my husband is hard of hearing and we wanted to enjoy convivial conversation with our son. Mission accomplished!! Many thanks.
My friend was visiting from France and we were headed to the Opera that evening, so me the foodie chose Joan’s for dinner. We had a fabulous experience both owners coming to our table to visit & I must say their Filet Mignon is the best in town. Thank you for never disappointing.
Really good food. We felt the $400 bill was high for four people but our friends selected the wine....we didn't look at the list...and I think that is where the added cost came from. Don't know if there are more reasonably priced bottles. Our server was friendly and attentive but made two errors in one of our orders; comped a glass of wine to make up. Not as loud as some small restaurants, which was great!
Wow, Joan's has gotten expensive. More than $160 for dinner for two, with no dessert ordered. Yes, our meals were tasty, but the tab was a shocker. Example: a very small dinner salad was $13. Not in our budget any more; we envy those who can afford it.
