joan's in the Park Ratings and Reviews
First time at Joan’s. We were intrigued by the Open Table description (cozy) but came away very impressed with the food and service. The roast chicken was exceptional. Moist and juicy half bird. The brown butter apple “fondue” salad was a surprisingly deconstructed and delicious way to start. My wife’s monkfish was perfectly cooked. All ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive. A great place. We will be back.
Love, love Joan's in the Park. The food is marvelous -- a wonderfully creative spin on steak, chicken, and fish that separates the restaurant from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The owners and staff make dining there so personal you feel like you're sitting at home enjoying a luxurious dining experience. Strongly recommend for a special occasion (sans children), a romantic dinner, or a simple desire for really good food.
From the warm welcome on a cold night through the last bite of desert, Joan’s sets itself apart from any other restaurant in the city. The unassuming facade hides a gem of a place with a small menu focused on quality and a wine list well beyond anything you’d expect from a bar with 5 seats. The service is casual but refined. Menu highlights include the brioche style house bread, the milk braised pork, and the crispy shrimp starter.
Excellent meal! We had the beef cheeks, pork shank, scallops, lobster appetizer, brussel sprouts, short-rib meatballs, & carrots. Every one of these was suburb. We drank the red-blend wine($10 per glass; good pour). Our waiter, Dan, was attentive without becoming intrusive. My only caution is that there are only three scallops. Pretty pricey for them, considering the amount of beef & pork in the other entrees. No room for dessert, sadly!
New Year's Eve was fantastic! Prix fixe menu - fabulous greens, selections from the sea and land. Proportions perfect. Decorated tastefully. Patrons reservations flowed smoothly! Joan, Susan, Daniel and everyone else serving and cooking there know how to make evenings special!
Great spot for NYE. Food with the set menu was wonderful. Loved the lobster salad and gnocchi especially. $14 per mocktail was a bit much, although they were top notch. And we were given our bill before finishing our dessert, making us feel pushed out. Focus on the customer experience a bit more and this will be an excellent restaurant.
This is our favorite restaurant. We have eaten at Joan's five times in the past 18 months and in each instance the food and service has surpassed our expectatations. The menu changes frequently and each time we have visited the food has been amazing. We love the ambience and friendly vibe at Joan's and look forward to our next dinner there.
Chose Joni's for our annual upscale holiday family dinner with our two adult children. First time there. Loved everything about it. Quaint atmosphere, attentive service, a menu with just the right amount of choice..but every one was a great option, great cocktail selection, appropriate price to portion ratio. On our way out the door, Joan caught us to personally thank us for coming...loved that! Will go back, especially in the summer to try out their patio. It was a very special night and Joan's played their part perfectly.
Once again, Joan's hit the mark for a great evening of good cocktails, nice wine and several phenomenal courses of food. They are consistently excellent here, and the staff and owners alike seem to delight in making our experience the best it can be. Tables are close and it can get a bit loud but it is so worthwhile.
It has been a while since I have raved to my friends that “I just had the best meal ever!” But I did just that after we dined here. From the friendly waiter who easily bantered with us, to the table side visit by both the owner and the chef, to the fabulous food. Don’t forget the signature brown butter pudding for dessert, they make sure you get every last bit. Don’t hesitate to enjoy this gem of a restaurant!
The best meal we've enjoy in quite some time and the organic roast chicken (and cranberry sweet sauce) was a once in a lifetime event......but we'll definitely be back. [Everyone should know that you won't find a better meal anywhere else on the planet. OK, too boastful, anywhere in the northern hemisphere]
The waitress insisted on describing the two meat specials to me in detail despite my telling her twice that I won't be eating meat, which was troublesome for a non-meat eater. The food service was very rushed with the first course arriving right after our wine was served and then the main course was served while still eating the first course. Not sure why the timing of the meal was so off as we did not request fast delivery. My kale caesar salad was delicious but way too salty. I have always heard raves about this restaurant but overall, not impressed with the service or food, especially for the higher end pricing.
An excellent choice mid week to host a VIP client . An excellent choice all around - can’t wait to return for our anniversary dinner - which we are doing in five days. I’m sure it will be very special - the offerings are extremely well balanced and wine pairings are well thought out. Our server was polite and knowledgeable.
Everything was 5 stars! No doubt one of the best dining experiences in St. Paul if not the twin cities . Thank you !
We randomly stopped in here the night we got engaged, we had an appetizer and some drinks. We thought the food and service was amazing. A year later, an entire dinner for date night was perfect. The lobster toast starter was my fiance's favorite, but we also had delicious pork shank and juicy filet with brussel sprouts. It was a perfect night.
We are so fortunate to have Joan's in the Park in our neighborhood. Scratch that: in our city. Scratch THAT: in our state. Few restaurants in the Twin Cities have such attention to detail in their cuisine and service. From the time you are welcomed into this warm cozy restaurant, to the wonderful attention of the wait staff, to the unparalleled cuisine delivered by the kitchen: this is a wonderful restaurant and a jewel in our community. We always turn first to this place for special occasions. As always, our experience at Joan's was terrific. Thank you.
Absolutely wonderful. Joan’s has been on my list to try for a long time. It finally worked out and was a fantastic experience. Our server was great, the food was great and the overall experience was...... great! This restaurant deserves all the accolades and you should experience it for yourself.
