Made a 5 pm reservation, didn’t know they opened at 5. We arrived 10 min early and the door was locked. The worst part was the servers were inside and we were in plain view however they didn’t even let us in to the vestibule area (there are two sets of doors into the restaurant). We could have waited in there at least to get out of the cold on 26 degree day. They ignored us until 5 pm when they finally let us in. Started the entire experience off on the wrong foot. They could simply make their first available reservation at 5:15 if they don’t want to open the doors before 5.
The food was tasty, but the portions are incredibly small if you don’t opt for the full four courses. I chose a la carte and got two courses plus dessert and left hungry.
Everyone at Joan’s was awesome. We sat at the bar for dinner. Everything arrived quickly. Each course was paced well. Joan was happy to chat with us. Kelly and Dan the servers were always available. Chef Susan came out later and was interested as to how we liked the meal.
Can’t wait to return.
Wonderful ambience, delicious and creative food, amazing cocktail and elegant feel. Definitely recommend.
This is a particularly nice restaurant choice for a special occasion. Although you can order items separately, it appeared as though most people ordered the 4 course dinner, which I believe had 5 choices for each course. Everything was wonderful and beautifully presented. While each course is relatively small, after 4 courses plus a couple of in-between "bites" and freshly baked bread, we were definitely full when we left. Service was excellent, and our server took the time to answer my questions about some of the items on the menu. I'm sure I have driven by this restaurant many times without noticing it. The outside of the building is non-descript and the sheer curtains over all the windows almost give it an appearance of being closed. This doesn't seem to have hurt business, however, as there were plenty of diners there on a weeknight. Dinner here is on the expensive side, but well worth it for a lovely night out.
Great service and fabulous food, Joan’s doesn’t disappoint. A fabulous example of what neighborhood fine dining should be
It's never not been an outstanding experience and always at the top of our very-special-date-night list
We had a wonderful birthday experience. Let them know if you have a special celebration.
Joan's in the Park has it all. Food. Service. Ambiance. All top notch.
It is the creme de la creme. Exquisite meal in every respect. Food was excellent with beautiful presentation and professional served. Staff was warm and genuinely friendly - in fact our server came out onto the sidewalk to say "thank you" as we walked to the car.
Look forward to a return soon.
I have long been a fan of this restaurant, but this was my first visit since their new four course menu. The food is fabulous...creative without being cazy. A wonderful place for dinner!
Most amazing meal I have ever had. Blow-away flavor combinations. Fab presentation.
Amazing restaurant. Food was incredible, staff was very attentive and made perfect recommendations for each course. Will definitely be back.
I was expecting great food, good service, and a lot of difficulty choosing only 4 items from the menu for my meal, but I was surprised by the Bundaberg ginger beer and Urban Growler honey cream soda aming the non-alcoholic drink options.
superb outstanding greatest wonderful !!!!!
Joan's is definitely an asset to Highland Park, I LOVE having a 5 star restaurant within a mile of my home! This was my 3rd time dining here in past 5 years? and food, service, atmosphere, were still top notch! They now offer a 4 course prix fixe menu with plenty of options IMO to have a well rounded meal. Enough bites of each for 2 to share and try, and we had the added bonus of the chef offering tastes of extra things he was cooking up, in between our courses. Yum! This was an anniversary meal for us and the table had heart shaped confetti for the occasion, nice touch that we appreciated! We will definitely be back more often, as we want to keep this restaurant in the neighborhood as long as possible! Thank you Joan and staff!!
Loved it. Will be back, I could actually hear and be heard without yelling. Food, hand crafted and lovely. Very gourmet!
We have tried to dine at Joan's for a long time, having heard such good things about it. We finally managed to book enough in advance to get in, and we can hardly wait to go back! Absolutely a fine dining treasure! The five-course set menu, with a wide range of choices, was delightful all the way. Everything was beautifully presented in thoughtful amounts, and we were surprised that we still wanted a dessert! What a marvelous experience. Five stars might not be enough!
You have got to get there.
What a fantastic dinner.
Tonight was the first time we have been to Joan’s in the Park sine the updated their menu. Their menu and food before was one of the best you would find in the Twin Cities. The new menu and food now as hard as it is to believe is better then their old menu and food. I highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion, date, or if you are in the mood to have one of the bests meals around!!?
If you like Alma, you'll love Joan's! Amazing food and truly kind and welcoming people. We loved it!
We tried 8 different items from the tasting menu and were impressed with every one of them. We will definitely be back.
Love the 4 course fixed price menu. Appreciated the smaller portions that were just the right size for enjoyable tasting. Again, Dan was a great server.
Glad we went to Joan's this past weekend. Service was great and the food was overall very good. If you go, order the blue grits and duck confit- probably the best dish I had. Fish was over cooked, border line burnt- and the sweet corn cake dessert is a textural nightmare- but every other dish we had was above expectations. would go again for sure
Fabulous food and service as always. This restaurant is a real gem.
Food was delicious as always! Loved the new course menu.
Our meals were amazing. Everything was so good. The service is exceptional. We will be back for the summer menu for sure!
I took my wife here for a birthday celebration. We were staying nearby in St. Paul and I did a search for a new place to visit as I always try to surprise my wife with something new and/or different. Joan's came up in a search and I was intrigued; so, I made a reservation. We were early for our reservation. We were greeted immediately upon entering and offered a seat at the bar. Joan's has a unique list of cocktails and we enjoyed one while waiting for our table. The entire staff was friendly!
We were seated and started our culinary adventure with a four course meal. There were about six selections in each course. The food selections were quite unique and very delicious.
If one is looking for a refreshing experience, I highly recommend Joan's in the Park.
Have been to Joan's in the Park several times and have always had great food. We went last Saturday with our entire family and had food that surpassed all of our expectations. It was far better than the food we recently had at a 2 star Michelin restaurant in France. Everything about the evening was amazing from the food, service to the cocktails.
Wow Joan’s in the park is definitely the place to go if you want have a very memorable date night. I really enjoy every bit of the food & experience, my waiter was amazing, the owner Was super friendly the entire experience was more than I imagine I know for sure this won’t be my last time going there, never know it might be my new anniversary spot💗😊
This is our favorite place! The most amazing food and exceptional service! We recommend it to everybody!
Delicious. Expensive, but delicious. Every part of the meal. We all ordered different things, and we were all blown away.
Second time at Joan’s and we both wondered why we’d waited so long to return. This time we chose from the tasting menu, and were delighted. Thoroughly recommend that choice!
A must dining experience...you will be amazed at the gourmet meal that comes out of a pizza oven. Would go here over Any steak house in the Twin Cities.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner.
Some of the most satisfyingly creative food in the region. And the bread is amazing! Joan’s never disappoints.
Joan's in the Park never fails to deliver outstanding food, service and hospitality. Joan greets guests at the door and checks back with the tables to ensure that all is well. Dan has been our server often and is the best. He advised us well on the tasting menu, wine and cocktails. Overall a great experience AGAIN.
Great, pre-fix menu
The food was amazing—a medley of unexpected but delicious flavors!
First Timer. Excellent food and selection. Great service. Birthday celebration.
My husband and I ate here with another couple. None of us had been to Joan's before, but had heard good things. We had a fabulous meal with great food, great wine and great service. Dan, our server was helpful and on top of things without being overbearing. We hope to go back again soon!
