J.J. Foley's Cafe is located in the South End neighborhood of the city of Boston. This great family owned and operated Irish pub and restaurant, run by the Foley family, has been serving customers since it opened in 1909. Dark wood, comfortable seating and the copper ceiling maintain the classic Irish pub atmosphere. Watch the game while enjoying a pint at the bar or dine in one of J.J. Foley's comfortable tables in the dining room.
The staff at J.J. Foley's prides themselves on being friendly and professional, whether that means making the perfect Manhattan or helping customers choose from the many great food options on the menu. Start with the humongous nacho platter. There are a plethora of salad, sandwich or burger options to choose from for a meal. Returning customers rave about Mr. Foley's favorite, a sirloin burger topped with egg, bacon and cheese.
They have an extensive menu, something for everyone. The waitress was awesome very quick and accommodating and the bill was more than reasonable. Will definitely go back.
Waitress was pretty rude. Almost as if we had inconvenienced her. My friend got a side car and the bartender rimmed the glass with salt instead of sugar. Home fries were way too salty.
stopped in for lunch - too hot to cook, had a delicious turkey burger with side salad and a Lighthouse Pale Ale. It was the most relaxing meal I have had in a long time. The burger was cooked exactly how I like it, was juicy and tasty. Looking forward to my return.
Love this place - food is always terrific and the staff always makes you feel like they were waiting for you to show up.
The former Ms. Annamarie Carroll (now married with a new name) from Wexford was a delightful waitress and very accommodating. She was particularly attentive to Oisin, my grand-son, and to my mother-in-law who is 90 years old and a bit of a challenge. The eight members of my family were excited to be at JJ Foley's Cafe and will be sure to return in the near future, perhaps to celebrate the birth of my grand-daughter!

met a friend for dinner - the soft shell crab is the special this week or two - it had a delicate flavor was delicious. I'm going back again before the menu changes.
Nice pub atmosphere. They had Pim's! The food was good. The service was good. The prices were reasonable. Seven of us had drinks (some more than one!) and a meal for under $200. We were there late afternoon. Someone told me the neighborhood might be a little sketchy at night.
Went there for brunch on Saturday without realizing they don't do brunch on Saturdays! But the staff was wonderful, they were very nice and the place was quiet around midday. Probably more of a late night spot in general, but we had a great midday experience with them.
The cold slaw was excellent - sometimes I just don't feel like french fries - the cold slaw is tangy, not runny, and goes great with a beer - excellent lunch
great kale soup I would go back every day for it - great place for lunch
I have been coming to JJ Foley's for years now. Whether for a drink after work, dinner at the bar or at a single table with a book, casual dinner with friends or visiting family, or a celebration, it feels like coming home. Lunch and dinner meals are great, from apps and salads to sandwiches, burgers and entrees. "Comfort" food for sure, but solid pub standards and remarkable specials, too. Haven't tried brunch yet, but have no doubt I would like it. Friendly, neighborhoody, comfortable, reliable. Love it!
I went to JJ Foley's to celebrate my birthday with ten friends. Our waitress was prompt and attentive despite the fact that we arrived in spurts over the course of about 45 minutes.
The dining room is set up with a couple of nooks with booths, that perfectly accommodated our group of 11. This was nice because it made it feel like we had our own exclusive space.
It is additionally impressive that they were able to be flexible (we changed from 11, to 13 and back to 11 guests), given the size of the group and that I made the reservation on a Tuesday for that Saturday.
The food was delicious pub style options. There was a good variety of tasty cocktails, but also a decent variety of beer selections.
I went to Foley's for corn beef and cabbage- it was excellent. The portions were just right, and cooked to perfection, a flavorful meal.
The duck hash brunch dish was surprisingly delicious and even my friend who's vegetarian and pretty limited in her options found a few things she liked on the menu! The waitress was accommodating but still had her Boston roots showing. :-)
great meal - turkey burger with cold slaw- I replaced french fries with the cold slay which was tasty and crispy - with a nice punch to it - not soupy.
Turkey burger had a delicious peppery flavor - juicy and very flavorful. A terrific meal.
Best Burger in Boston - juicy, the bun was fresh and held on to the pickle and ketchup. The flavor was delicious.
I spent the morning running around the City and found myself at Foley's freezing and hungry for a late lunch. The chicken corn chowder was excellent - it had a slight kick to it but rather than being spicy it enhanced the corn flavor. I had it with a side of coleslaw and regretted being full, I would have enjoyed another bowl of soup. Excellent soup looking forward of returning.
We dragged my in-laws reluctantly to this restaurant because it had good reviews and appeared kid friendly. Needless to say we were very happy with the food and service that we received and my in-laws are still talking about the fish and chips and shepherds pie! we highly recommend this place!!
Lunch today was the best chicken and rice soup I have ever had - a nice big steaming bowl with carrots, celery, onions and moist white chicken meat. It was such a pleasure today.
Late Late lunch - tuna melt was the perfect comfort food - I was cold + hungry + feeling just UGH but that tuna hit the spot it was delicious
Lunch today was a terrific barley soup with a chicken sandwich - the bread was toasted just right - the chicken salad was flavorful no mayonnaise overkill. The soup was just the right balance of barley and beef - I had a bowl
Lunch time soup was the greatest I love kale soup this was the best - I highly recommend it
Sunday brunch - Irish Sausage and a veggie omelet - it was the best - lots of good coffee - the homemade biscuit w/ honey butter spread melted in my mouth. Can't wait to go back again. And Santa was there - who can resist whispering in his ear wishes for a wonderful year for all.
Had a bunch of family in town for Thanksgiving and needed a place to eat on the day after. The food was great, service was outstanding, and we had a great time all together. Thanks to Foley's youngest for the friendly and prompt service!
good curry chips, fish n chips, shepards pie, awesome beer on tap, wing and bar bites all very good.
Real small irish pub but with room to spread out.
True boston experience worth having
Great dinner met friends - tried Duck Tacos they were delicious. The Chicken and corn chowder was tasty, had a good broth that held the ingredients together without diluting the flavor. very enjoyable meal
We had brunch at JJ Foley's on Berkeley St in the South End this past Sunday and we were very pleased to say the least. We hadn't been there before but I had a feeling we would like it. Well, let me say it exceeded even those expectations. I had the duck hash and eggs (would go back just for that) and a Newcastle Brown Ale on draught and my wife had an omelet and a Bloody Mary which were very good as well. This was served to us with some lovely biscuits and honey-butter by a most delightful Irish waitress who made us feel like it was or 100th visit not our first. It was a bit quiet that morning but I can imagine the place getting quite lively when the crowds begins to roll in.
Chosen as a last resort and was much better than expected. Good for a party
WHen we arrived at JJ Foley's at about 11:00 on a Sunday morning, the smell of last night's beer and food permeated the premises to the extent that we couldn't stay. Even though we knew it had already been extremely difficult to find a reservation for brunch on that particular Sunday morning, we left to take our chances because the odor was so unappealing.
This is a nice spot with a good variety of beers on tap and very good food - particularly recommend the fish & chips and the steak tips.
Best clam chowder I have ever had in Boston. ... excellent burgers, too
Excellent meal - best burger I have had in ages. What an excellent find. A neighborhood gem.
Foley's is a neighborhood bar and pub (separate entrances) that's been tucked away in a remote spot on East Berkley in the South End forever. We stopped by for a quick bite before heading to a concert in the Theatre District, about a 10-minute walk. The Irish waitresses were super-friendly -- even held onto our doggie bag so we could pick it up on our way back from the concert -- and the food was great. I had the fish taco app, which was plenty big for a meal, and the truffle parmeson tater tots, which were tasty and addictive. My husband had the huge portion of fish and chips, also great. Don't be put off by the location and non-descript exterior -- this place was great, and we'll be back.
Had the extremely delicious grilled fish tacos. The perfect food - filling but not too heavy. Excellent meal
Harried day slipped into Foley's for a late lunch of a big green salad I choose to add salmon - it was delicious. The greens were fresh and tasty none of that iceberg lettuce stuff. and the balsamic dressing is very tasty. And the service was excellent. Looking forward to my next visit.
J. J. Foley's Cafe is a traditional Irish pub where everyone is treated like family. The food and drinks are great, but the wonderful service is what makes this place stand out. The waitress was so friendly and engaging. The pub itself is quiet and relaxing with decor from articles and old street signs that bring it's history to life. Highly recommend stopping in at J. J. Foley's Cafe - you will not be disappointed!!!
I think Foley's has the best cold slaw in Boston-the service is great too
I can't say enough about JJ Foley's. Our family of 12 has met here several times over the past few years, always on a Saturday for lunch. They have gone out of their way to make this a perfect environment for our reunions. The food is exceptional. We have all tried most everything, all delicious. The service is always impeccable.
great meal - neighborhood meeting - nachos deluxe - great place to meet
First Friday is always a great time to meet up with friends - Foley's is a great spot - good food, reasonable prices, and great service. What a find, will be back for next months First Friday.
