I thought the food was grossly overpriced for the quality received. Two meals with one drink was $100 with tip, which might be fine down in the cities (for a good meal), but is extremely pricey in Duluth. Moreover, while the food was o.k. at best, it was o.k. at best. For $100 for two you'd expect the food to be much better. It was entree, vegetable, potato, or past entree. A salad to go with it started at $8.00. I've had far better steaks at restaurants in the Twin Ports for half the price or less. About all you're getting for your money is the view when your side of the dining room is facing the harbor. I'll never return.
Great atmosphere and the food was well prepared and served .
Scallop app was great and alcohol is decently priced. Entrees were underwhelming, but the service was excellent.
Overall we were very happy with our visit to JJ Astors. We have been before but it has been awhile
Amazing view, great ambiance, waitress was very friendly, and the food was amazing. Pricey, but expected, and worth it for the quality of the food and the view.
The food was great and the service was even better. Also, the view was amazing! It is a very unique round rotating design that allows you to see the 360 degrees of the city.
To be honest, the only redeeming quality of this restaurant is the view. Not sure if that is even worth it any more.
Fantastic place - great staff (polite, friendly, helpful); fresh ingredients used in a caring yet creative way to create one-of-kind meals; lovely view of the city of Duluth no matter how cold it is outside; and an overall welcoming feeling upon entering.
Our beverages and meals were excellent. We had a wonderful server. Great conversation. Paid close attention and her timing was perfect. So ... with that, the main reason we chose JJ Astor was nicely rewarded.
Low spot ... the "greeter." Upon arrival, rather than "Welcome," "Glad You could Join us" ... or "How can we make your evening special?" her ONLY words were "Do you HAVE a reservation?" with an additional grumble while leading us to our table. Granted, it was New Years Eve, but this was early in the evening. I would have hated to observe what others endured later.
Oh ... and both sinks were plugged in the women's washroom. When mentioned, we were merely responded to with "Oh yeah ... the hotel manager already knows."
Believing that the low spots were rare exceptions, we would still recommend JJ Astor.
Beautiful setting. Great food and beverages. Nice wait staff. I believe that management will quickly correct the glitches. You WILL enjoy your visit!
Food & White Russians used to be excellent. Meatloaf was horrible. Drinks were watered-down and served in the wrong type of class. Kids were running around everywhere, ruining the ambiance. You used to have a great chef. What happened? The server we've had before. She seemed sheepish this time...or maybe I was feeling sheepish for her.
The next survey box is titled "Your reviews nickname." You might want to add an apostrophe in the word "reviews." Sorry to be such a downer.
We made a last minute reservation for Christmas Eve & drove over 150 miles to dine at JJ Astors. What a wonderful time we had, food was good & the service was wonderful!
The food is always delicious and the ambience and staff are wonderful.
Fabulous restaurant with a view never ending as it turns 360 degrees in an hour. A good variety on the menu and it includes good picks for children, as well. Be prepared to pull out your wallet-but well worth it!!
The view of the rotating dining was spectacular. The server was amazing. The food.... Not so much. I had the French toast which tasted like 2 pieces of wonder bread with absolutely no flavor at all for $11. The view was amazing and worth the trip.
Our server was fantastic! She very much added to our great dining experience!!
