Whether settling into the oversized armchairs in the lounge, or admiring the view from the inviting sofa style banquettes, the restaurant provides a memorable dining experience for locals and visitors alike.
Authentic portraits, blueprints, and photography from Duluth’s past adorn the teak panels located throughout the restaurant. While the most stunning view is undoubtedly the view of Lake Superior, the interiors also paint a captivating picture of their own.
Save your money. Bad food WAAY over priced. Couldn't even mix a $10 drink correctly. Go to Lake Ave Cafe
View was great, but service was just okay. Prices were ridiculous for the quality. Charging fine dining pricing is okay if you offer that level of service, we had a better meal and friendlier service at the little Cafe we went to the previous night.
My partner and I chose JJ Astor because we were staying at the Radisson, and thought it would be a cute deal to have dinner in the rotating restaurant. We paid $160 for dinner (it was our three year anniversary). The food was mediocre at best, and I can’t find any way to justify that much money for sub-par risotto and the driest caprese appetizer I’ve ever eaten. My partner’s cocktail wasn’t anything to write home about, and the only highlight was the crème brûlée - though, I’d be very concerned if they’d found a way to mess that up.
To finish, I’d only recommend it for cocktail hour, but mostly for the novelty of the rotating restaurant. Most disappointing $160 I’ve ever spent.
We loved the ambiance of the restaurant, but were disappointed in the food choices and dinner. I was not made aware of the fixed price menu when booking dinner reservations several weeks in advance. Due to a seafood allergy, my partner had trouble finding a dish he could enjoy. My risotto was cold when it arrived.
It was a delightful experience. Everyone in our party ordered different items and they all superb. The cocktails were yummy, as well. The only disappointment was they really didn’t offer appetizers. The view is very enjoyable, as well.
Nice spot to celebrate a special occasion. Great food, great service with an Amazing view.
Chad was our server and he was fantastic. Very attentive and personable. The food was delicious especially the crembule. Prices were fair especially with the prime rib special.
My son’s birthday was great food and delicious meals!
Food arrived cold. We were there a couple of months prior and it was excellent. This time the breading only the walleye was heavy, soggy and terrible and the platter was all cold. Cold shrimp, scallops and walleye. Also, you ask if it’s a special occasion and it was a birthday celebration which didn’t seem to result in anything special.
Bloody Mary was disappointing , it had no frills. Just celery and olives. And was small. The Portabella sandwich was quite overcooked. The French fries small but ok. Everything was average. The only time I’d go back is for drinks and appetizers - the view is great so worth going back.
I ordered the prime rib and the as you and horseradish sauce was not very good. Our waiter was . Not very happy. Not sure if he was having a bad day or not.
Friends recommended JJ Astor to us as we were in Duluth for our anniversary. From the drinks to the entree to dessert everything was superb. Chad was an excellent server for the night - he answered all of our questions and made good recommendations based on our inquiries. Beautiful atmosphere inside and a joy to watch a snowstorm from the top floor! We will be back!!
Professional, very competent waiter (Kyle?)
I thought that it might be over rated because the real draw was the view. However, the food was delicious! The atmosphere was elegant, and the servers knowledgeable! It was a lovely, romantic place to spend New Year’s Eve.
New Years Eve. A very busy place, yet the staff didn't show that. The food and beverages were wonderful! The four of us each had something different - each of us were impressed. Our server was as nice and attentive as you will find! The night time view is great. I can't think of a nicer way to have enjoyed the start of our evening.
Best prime rib I’ve had in years. You should have this on your menu every weekend! Dawn our server was top notch! Her wine pairing was perfection. We will be back. I hope to see a new menu sometime with some fun entrees. And maybe step up the kind of generic menu. I miss the duck, osso bucco, and the sinner fries were to die for.
Although they function with a fairly limited menu, the food was very good, the view fantastic, our waiter was pretty darned good, and the value for the total package was worth it!
A memorable experience that didn't break the bank for dining out, and our second time there. 5 out of the 6 of us truly loved what we had. Personally, with dietary restrictions that already make it hard to eat out, finding something within the already narrow range of selection was futile...so I personally just had to skip the diet altogether, and was thankful that I did as it was delicious. So while the limited menu was a little bit of a downside, the small menu could be seen as a benefit for someone who has a hard time making choices!
Bring back the meatloaf! And the half a chicken. The meal was very ordinary. The mashed potatoes were no light and fluffy. The White Russians were ordinary.
A fun place to eat, especially at Christmas time you can see Bentleyville from the revolving restaurant.
We were there for breakfast and it was wonderful. Great Service and very good food.
Sat at the bar initially to wait for table. Seating was only for about 8 and we were only one there and then few others. Multiple bartenders and not one greeted or acknowledged us in 15 minutes. Waiter at our table was sloppily dressed and showed the zero enthusiasm that we were there. Crab cake appetizers and mashed potatoes and vegetables with steak were barely warm. Filet was perfectly cooked and delicious. For a bill for two people if $160, I expect a great total experience and great quality food. It seems that the overall Managememt is very poor to allow any of these conditions to be happening on. Saturday night. View was great though but would never go back.
The food and service were great and the view was tremendous. Would recommend this restaurant for any occasion but especially for special occasions. Make sure you make a reservation if you want to eat dinner!
The service was outstanding! The food was terrible! My wife ordered the Prime Rib that the dog wouldn't eat (literally) and the vegetables weren't done. My wife would not return her food due to, what she thinks, is very uncomfortable. This was terribly unfortunate due to the fact it was our anniversary. We hosted our wedding reception there in 2000 and the event went extremely well. I really hesitate to write a poor review to a place we hold close to our heart, however, this is one of the very few exceptions.
Good food; lovely nighttime view; fun staff. Overall, an excellent dining experience.
Wonderful rotating restaurant with spectacular views! The food was a great value. We had exceptional service! This was a great opportunity to see Bentleyville from above after the chilly foot tour! We’ll be back.
Food was decent. Didn't seem very fresh. It was almost like we were being served leftovers.
I brought my daughter for her 11th birthday. She had been asking to go for a while. We both had an awesome time! Our waiter, although I forget his name, was the best! There was another couple who were waiting to be seated, and they were standing at the window by our table talking. Our waiter very kindly and graciously asked them to wait in the reception area as not to obstruct our view. The couple happily obliged, and apologized =) The food, the service, the view, all were amazing!! Birthday dinner win!
The man serving us was amazing, everything was great!
Me and my family had reservations at 6:30pm we got there at 6:10 it was at least 7:10 before we got seated took forever to get food and when we did the three steaks we ordered med came well by that time we were hungry so we ate they were good but they would of been excellent at med done so I can't see me or my family going back again sorry sincerely David Maus
The views alone were worth eating at the restaurant, especially during Bentlyville. The food was good. A little pricey, but they did have a special for the day that was tasty and reasonably priced.
Fantastic food and service! Highly recommend. We have been going every year for our anniversary for at least the past six or more years!
The overall food and service was excellent. I was not impressed with the doors not opening right at 5:00. We ended getting in around 5:10 and missed the lights being turned on for Bentlyville. I was disappointed because my experience has always been positive.
Food and service was average and took almost and hour to receive our order and the place wasn't busy.
It was very good for the price, good value. The scenic view is fantastic.
They had no record of our confirmed 2:00 reservation. We had to wait 40 minutes for a table to open up.
Delicious Thanksgiving buffet
A bit expensive
Food was good except the wild rice should have been handparched. Machine parched is tougher and chewy.
Ambiance and waitstaff were excellent.
The view, especially during Bentleyville at night, is amazing. The food and service not so much.
