We have created a contemporary menu utilizing sustainable produce from local farmers and fresh fish from local fishermen.
Whether settling into the oversized armchairs in the lounge, or admiring the view from the inviting sofa style banquettes, the restaurant provides a memorable dining experience for locals and visitors alike.
Authentic portraits, blueprints, and photography from Duluth’s past adorn the teak panels located throughout the restaurant. While the most stunning view is undoubtedly the view of Lake Superior, the interiors also paint a captivating picture of their own.
Happy Hour in the Lounge Everyday 3:00pm-6:00pm
Quality of menus not up to par. Did not mind the paper menu but it needs to be clean. Servers dress quality not good
The food was very good. The only complant I have is it was my best friends birthday and I phoned to make sure there was cake or something special and they told me sure there was just mention it to your server and I did that and nothing special happened or there was no surprise. Was"t happy and still feel that way. Not giving me reason to return!
This was our first time going to JJ Astor for a date night and it was completely worth it! The view was stunning and it was fairly quiet since our reservation was on a weeknight just before 9PM. The food was incredible and the Cheesecake was to DIE for. Worth the bill especially since you are paying for the 360 rotating view of Duluth. Will go again and highly recommend!
The windows were covered with spiders and spider webs.
My food was prepared incorrectly even though I thoroughly explained my food allergies.
Dinner took almost an hour to arrive at the table.
Just Average. The fact that restaurant rotates gives a good view of Lake and city
Excellent food! The Sinner’s Fries alone are worth going back for. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. I will go back. The view is incredible and you do not feel the restaurant going around.
The best part of our evening was the dessert and the views. It saved a sour evening of undressed pasta, over cooked asparagus, and 10 unpleasant pin bones. It’s a lovely place to sit and watch the harbor, but perhaps only for that and a lovely slice of raspberry layer cake.
A trip to Duluth is not complete without dinner at JJ Astor.
Excellent meals and of course, views! Our waiter Chad was simply top notch and made our dining experience even better.
Service started a little slow but Dawn ended up being excellent! Food was well prepared and delicious
Quiet and comfortable. Menu limited but the food was prepared very well. Service was nice. I felt like the server really wanted me to enjoy my night. The view was amazing.
JJ Astor offers a 360 view of Duluth and the greater lake superior area. Given its proximity to all the major hotels in the area, it is a great location to walk to if you are not already staying in the Radisson. I went there on my Anniversary and it was a lot of fun. Although the waiting staff didn't say anything about the occasion (even though i put it in my reservation), it was still a very special evening.
Great service, food, drinks and view, what else is there. Enjoyed!
Very enjoyable and a lovely view
We love this rotating restaurant with the 360 view of our beloved Duluth. It takes the restaurant one hour to completely rotate.
We made reservations for our wedding anniversary. I emailed ahead to ask if they had any vegan options. They said yes, but also asked for ideas, so I sent some ideas. The chef prepared a apricot balsamic something, something. It's included sautéed spinach, tomatoes and corn, grilled asparagus, grilled mushrooms and several other things that I can't remember.
My husband is a omnivore and ordered off the regular menu. We shared a bowl Sorbet with strawberries and blueberries for dessert.
We went here for my birthday and it was a fantastic time! Very good food and the atmosphere was awesome... cocktails were tasty and dessert was great!!! I have recommended it to family and friends! I will be back!
The chef does a phenomenal job with all sea food dishes. You can tell the chef is highly skilled and has a unique style that maximizes favors of all dishes. Atmosphere is private and comforting. Wait staff is skilled and seem to truely enjoy serving you. Seating is private which I liked. Attention to detail in all aspects was high.
I’ve ate at many 5 star resurants this is noteable with the best.
Great Food. Great Atmosphere. Great Option All Around!
The revolving idea was a great way to see the city. Service was excellent. We both had walleye. Cooked perfect. Veggies could use some more work. Whiskey sours were spot on!
The tempura shrimp was overly battered and a little on the greasy side. But the duck breast I had was excellent, really tasty and cooked perfectly.
This restaurant was the perfect choice for our anniversary dinner. The service was great, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was really entertaining.
Great service, great atmosphere
Filet mignon was tough and terrible but not as bad as the dry maple salmon.
Appetizers and salad were ok. Service was slow and almost nonexistent.
Need some renovations and definitely need to clean the carpets. Paint peeling off the ceiling.
View was awesome, but that’s all it has going for it.
The view was really great. There was hardly anyone there on a Saturday night, which should have been a clue. The service was pretty friendly, though could have been a little more attentive. My husband’s filet mignon was okay—he ordered medium and it was more med-rare. My whole meal was terrible. The Caesar salad came with a steak knife... had to wrestle leaves of romaine into bite size pieces. Not sure what happened to the dressing? Pretty much non existent. I ordered salmon, and it was so far over-over done, I couldn’t even cut it with my knife. Just dry and awful. I gave up after 2 bites. The waitress never checked back. Apparently the guy who cleared our plates saw that the full serving of salmon and burnt asparagus were still sitting there on my plate and told the manager. He came over and apologized and said the chef was new and working a lot (?) and took $15 off our bill. That covered one glass of wine. Will not be going back. Much better options, I think.
We made a reservation for JJ Astor for our special honeymoon meal. We had an overall great experience.
If you are in Duluth for a special night, please visit JJ Astor's! You will see a view of Duluth like you've never seen before. Service was excellent, food was very good and drinks were great. Not cheap but worth every penny.
Sadly the Salmon and Steak were not very good! Spent a lot of money and left hungry and frustrated...
Our food was great and our server was awesome! The view of course was stunning.
The a/c was much too cool. Otherwise, the food and service were very good.
Took mom for her birthday and had a wonderful brunch. Great food and service!
service was excellent, salmon was great. but I ordered the "King's Fettuccine" there was way to much Alfredo sauce on the fettuccine that there was a pool on my plate afterwards, go easy on the sauce it is not suppose to be soup. Other than that it was a very nice dinning experience, our waitress was excellent and that view is amazing, I will be returning.
I had a very pleasant experience, the view was amazing. The food was great and portioned perfectly left full but not stuffed, the drinks were great. I highly recommend this restaurant :)
Don’t get dessert it was disgusting and a waste of $8
The food was great. We elected to test their bar:
I asked for a "Kir" for my wife & I. That is cream de cassis + white wine. Many places only know a "Kir Royal" which is the same liquor added to champagne. They got it just perfect!
Next test, their desert menu listed many fine choices, but I asked for Limoncello (not on their list). Our waiter said they had it, so we ordered it: Limoncello needs to be served in chilled special glasses. The glasses they used were appropriate and chilled!
Rooftop, rotating restaurant. The clam chowder was one of the best I ever had, not the usual wallpaper glue. The rest of the menu was very good. My wife had a fish stew that was also very good. The views of Duluth were second to none. Well worth going to.
Good food and quiet for good conversation plus wonderful views
Quiet, easy to have conversation. Great views. Pleasant staff.
Terrible will not go back again. Each time it kept getting worse. Steak had to be sent back, ordered medium received rare. Child ordered $12 Clam Chowder soup (normally loves) waitress didn’t inform us it was broth based with fresh clams and for a 15yr that doesn’t wet the palate. We think she should of informed us of what to expect. Three of the four dishes the food was cold. Lady sitting at a table next to us was talking LOUD on her cell phone and it was very disruptive, no one said anything. Over all terrible. We will NOT go back again. PS went talked to the manager, who by the way asked us how our meal was, we informed him of the soup and meat situation he seemed bothered we were telling him. He seemed disinterested in what we had to say. Did take the soup cost off. Wow we saved $12, meal still cost us $165 plus tip.
You simply cannot beat the view! It is totally worth going to JJ Astor for the view alone! The service is hit and miss though. The gal who waited on us this past time did not smile, not even once. Didn't look like she was enjoying herself at all. We also had a small child with us and there was no offer of a high chair or anything else to help accommodate a small child. No children's menu either. I give the view a 10+! Everything else can definitely use some improvements.
The view is SPECTACULAR, and the circular dining area revolves at a slow pace so you can see ALL of Duluth over the course of about an hour. The drinks were original and imaginative and strong. Food was good but what I would describe as GREAT. Cost was roughly $200 per couple with drinks, dessert, coffee, tip, the whole nine. My biggest complaint was that we were not greeted promptly by the hosts, and so there was this jumble at the host stand which is also right in front of the elevator where you enter the restaurant. We were feeling a little claustrophobic standing there like that so we sat at the bar (also right next to the host stand and elevator) but no one waited on us, even though it wasnt busy or crowded. So for the first 5-10 minutes we were there, no one said hello, no one made eye contact, and we felt a little unloved. Eventually the manager came over, and seemed to tell the host to take care of us, (the host had found the time to take a phone call, still hadnt greeted me) and from there we were brought to a great table, had a great waiter and a good meal. just started out REALLY slow.
