Like being transported to the Mediterranean
Excellent food and service
Nice place and service is good. I know it is a ski location but most mountains have such good dining options. The $40 steak was 1/4 inch thick and they used tiny shrimp and salmon in the cioppino.
great restaurant, food delicious, staff very attentive & accommodating. great Sommolier
I really wanted to like Jimmy's but unfortunately, there were too many negatives. 1. NO KIDS MENU - and not a menu that most kids will eat from. They begrudgingly let us order from the "bar" menu (note the bar is right there in the main restaurant) which has "gyors" (sort of) - so the kids ordered those - $27 meat in pita gryos - not kidding . . . . super overpriced. the main menu was expensive too and not what one would expect from "Greek" - greek salad has no lettuce (apparently that is true Greek??). Adding automatic gratuity of 20% ON TOP OF TAX - so wrong . . so so wrong, Jimmy's!!! No wonder the servie was not that great - they include a 20% gratuity on very high priced food. What we had was good - the moousaka was not typical .. . . it was fine - not great. chicken was good - we did not have the fish but I bet it was good. Just over priced, adding gratuity, and having no options for kids give his a "we won't be back" and we go to Mammoth a LOT. Disappointed b/c I was very hopeful. Adults only who want steak or seafood? This may be a good choice for you. Saganaki was very good.
One waiter must been having a bad day. When we asked for some share plates and was clearing our appetizer plates, he muttered on the side of his mouth with a negative tone “oh god really!” But before that when I was walking up the stairs from the restroom he ran quickly past me and said with an abrupt voice “I’m going to get right by you!” All he did after that was tell a couple that he would seat get their table for them in a minute and slowly went to go do something else. So I’m not sure why he was such in a hurry up the stairs. It just left an uncomfortable unpleasant vibe that night.
Wonderful and comprehensive wine list at fair prices, terrific staff, and a lovely room. Food is nicely done and pleasantly served. Great selection of Greek favorites, and a nice blend of traditional food. Easy to find, lots of adjacent parking, reservations are honored, and portions are large. A lot to recommend here.
Liked the food but didn’t like the tipping policy. Overall the food was good. Sampler appetizer was very good. And we enjoyed the moussaka. Wait staff was good also. However, we were a party of 6 and so the bill came with a gratuity of 22% . That 22% was on the food, the wine and the tax. And I dont recall seeing any mention of that...oh well. Resort town rules
Food was good, but overpriced. Advertised as kid friendly but extremely limited kid options - $20 for chicken and rice!
I love Mediterranean food. The beet salad was excellent. The babaganouj was bland, it didn't have the smokey eggplant flavor I expect. The red pepper dip was pretty good but also on the bland side. The pita bread was better than average. The seared scallops didn't taste all that fresh and there was sand in the accompanying greens.
The place had a nice festive, family dining feel. Our waiter was great and the hostesses were nice. It was crowded with but we had a reservation and were seated immediately. The manager who was also acting as a waiter seemed upset with everyone on the staff I heard him talk to, which he did loudly, that part was not enjoyable to listen to.
Always a great meal, awesome wine selection and great service. You feel like you are in Greece eating your meal. The decor and ambience are great. Chip really knows his wines. We can always count on a superb time at Jimmy’s taverna
Food was ok but service was awesome. Veal chop and pork chop were both good, but my king crab risotto was quite disappointing. Other than the few pieces of crab meat on top there were none in the risotto. The description had saffron and some kind of blood orange broth but none of that flavor were detected. Plus kinda oily and arrived luke warm but waiter realized and warmed it up for me. For $39 risotto I expect a better version.
Always enjoy our time at Jimmy’s. Beautiful decor, excellent food, first class service. Food is a little pricey.
We absolutely love this restaurant- the sommelier and the waiters make it so enjoyable. Wine is the best selection of all varietals and the menu is fabulous. Our go to for an amazing evening
Restaurant ambience is beautiful with a sense of dining in on one of the Greek islands. The food portions are good and quality is EXCELLENT. Wine selection was great and a salmonier gives suggestions on bottles. The waiters of our two tables were mediocre with checking in on our appetizers and meals. The food is much better than the service and the reason why I’ll return to the restaurant on my next visit to Mammoth. Aside, not a young kid restaurant as menu is pricey and no children’s menu items.
We had an outstanding dinner at Jimmy's Taverna while on a Mammoth Ski Trip. It was -- by far -- the best meal we've ever had in Mammoth. And the service was outstanding. Kudos!!!
We had a perfect time. Expansive wine list and great food. Our service was fantastic.
The food was inconsistent. The hollandaise over crab on the special was congealed and darkening by the time it made it to the table. The moussaka didn't even seem fully-cooked, it was little more than ground lamb (which was cooked) and crunchy eggplant (yeah, I don't know how they did that) under a sea of unappetizing bechamel. The mushroom risotto was the most strongly tarragon-flavored thing I've ever tasted. The sampler of dips was quite nice as was the steak preparation. Deserts were fine - not great, but nothing to complain about.
Nice space, though. It was much more pleasant in person than the online photos made it seem.
Our waiter was fantastic and helped us with a great wine choice.
The bartender and all other servers were very helpful. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals and overall experience. Good park, steak and fish.
Great food. loved the dips. very nice and helpful waiter. nice ambiance. would definitely go back.
The seafood ciopinno and medium rare plus filet steak were excellent. The sommelier Chip was great!
No vibe. Horrible food and awkward service.
Food was great, not what I would expect for such a reasonably priced place. The atmosphere was fun - Greek themed, nice lights and music, but not too crowded. Serving staff and bartender went out of their way to make sure we were served quickly. We loved it so much that my son and I came back the next day after a long day of skiing to try some of their other dishes. We are Mediterranean food junkies and this place went above and beyond our expectations. We’ll be back for sure next time we are in Mammoth Lakes!
We had dinner to celebrate our daughter’s 9th birthday while in town to ski. The service was exceptional! What appeared to be the owners came by to check on us and we’re both very engaging and pleasant. One sang happy birthday for our daughter. The food was great. This was our first visit and we will definitely be return customers.
We enjoyed our dinner experience at Jimmy's overall. The service was great. Our frito misto appetizer was delicious. I ordered the Greek salad. It was very good. However, we had some issues. The filet entree my husband ordered arrived with cold mashed potatoes and asparagus. Now, they did correct the mistake immediately. However, we were the first guests at the restaurant and they weren't busy yet so there really wasn't an excuse for that. Also, they need more kids options. If you are going to a restaurant in a family-friendly city, you should have a kids menu. The options we were given were limited and the one we ordered was lacking flavor. I loved the ambience and would go back.. just think there are some improvements that could be made.
The food was amazing. I have been there numerous times and sometimes the service is good and sometimes it’s so-so to terrible. I think when the servers have their “regulars” then others tend to get ignored.
One of if not THE best restaurant in Mammoth Lakes. The setting makes you feel you are on a Greek island waiting for the fisherman to come in. It is a beautiful replica of a fishing village, which during the winter in Mammoth is a beautiful and brilliant contrast. The food is exceptional, especially the fish dishes. I highly recommend the fisherman's stew. The specialty appetizer of fried cheese is presented with great theatrics. The wine list is one of the best in the State of California. They also have a marvelous beer list and creative cocktails. Every member of the staff go out of their way to make your experience fantastic. It is often hard to get in, especially for a large party, so book early. You will not be disappointed.
This restaurant is a hidden gem! Beautifully decorated, open and comfortable. Chip the Wine Director was so helpful and attentive guiding us to the perfect choices! Appetizers and the Main course was superb, perfectly seasoned & fresh. Can't wait to visit again...
Risotto was the worse I have ever tasted. Server had no soul.
absolutely wonderful experience! Great service, excellent food. Lovely atmosphere. If you are in Mammoth you must make a reservation.
I enjoyed the environment of the restaurant along with the amazing food. Perfect taste.
We make it a point to dine at Jimmy's every trip we make to Mammoth. We love the ambiance, the food is excellent, the wine list is fantastic, and the service is superb. Consistently a great experience!
All right, I thought the ambiance was great; it’s a small restaurant, cozy, mediterranean, quite ideal for a date night, the cocktails were delicious and at this point one gets great expectations about the food, which was okay but nothing remarkable. I had far better food at home.
They have an extensive wine list, an appealing menu that offers pretty much the usual quality comfort food; we ordered mushroom risotto, king crab risotto, and the lamb. Fair portions, nicely served, very mild and unimpressive flavors. Do not expect “author cuisine” but do expect the high prices.
It’s a bit pretentious, I’m okay when the servers say “OOOPA!” every time some dish in flames is coming out of the kitchen but I do not see the point in repeating OOOPA! after them, every single time. People should know that this doesn’t make them more Greek or authentic than the rest of the clientele.
You might get rushed as well. They want you to order and shortly after your order gets to the table they want you to order again soon. They probably expected the two drinkers in my table to drain fast that bottle of wine that was also a bit expensive but not impressive; so that we could order soon the dessert, which we didn’t of course.
Do not go if you dislike the smell of food in your clothes and hair.
Amazing food. Every appetizer and entree we had was delicious. Beautiful decor, felt like I was in Greece.
We had so cha great time thank you Stuart and Carlos for making this so cha great memory
Great wine list by the glass, by half-bottle, and by the bottle. Whole grilled fish is my favorite. More seafood options than other places in Mammoth.
Celebrated my husbands 30th birthday, we brought outside cake, it was a surprise! Staff did a lovely job, food was delicious and we were a party of 10, which they accommodated a large table. Thanks again!
The atmosphere was surprising pleasant, couldn’t really tell from the exterior. Our cocktails were great, food was good, but overpriced. Will consider returning once I’ve tried more Mammoth restaurants!
Birthday-fun- flaming cheese!
