The atmosphere was surprising pleasant, couldn’t really tell from the exterior. Our cocktails were great, food was good, but overpriced. Will consider returning once I’ve tried more Mammoth restaurants!
Birthday-fun- flaming cheese!
Excellent food, poorly timed service. Would have rated higher if the service was better, but the service brought down the whole dining experience.
Wonderful atmosphere and good food. It took a little too long for our food to arrive, but we were a party of 10.
Our dinner at Jimmy’s Taverna in Mammoth Lakes was the best! We were overwhelmed by the depth of the wine list. The Wine Director, Chip, listened carefully to what our entrées were, and selected the perfect pairing that pleased all our guests.
The food, the preparation, and the attention to detail by the service staff was second to none. Jimmy’s Taverna will be at the top of our list as we travel to Mammoth several times a year. This place is not to be missed! Don’t hesitate to ask Chip the Wine Director, for his suggestions, he’s batting 1000!
Once we walked into the restaurant itself, we were very impressed. The wine expert, Chip, was quite fun and especially accommodating. We had two birthdays in our party, and he went out of his way to get the right Chardonnay for me and took my son into the wine room itself. The food was delicious, the wine yummy, the ambiance very inviting. If I could change one thing, it would be the lack of greeting and accommodation in the tiny little lobby shared by two restaurants. We were worried for those first few five minutes, but the actual dining experience was wonderful. Definitely give it a try!!
Server was really nice and attentive:)
Food, everything was okay but that “Parmigiano crisp” on the top of mushroom risotto was Not crispy, like hard plastic so couldn’t eat. Also Grilled Octopus Salad, the green(I forgot name)was very sandy so can’t finish to eat as well.
Our family has been going here for years during our annual ski trip . Last year we had a terrible experience but thought it was just a bad night, but again this year we experienced the worst service (and the restaurant was only 1/4 full) cold food was served and there was hair in our food.
This restaurant was decent, but way over priced for the quality of food and service at restaurant. There are plenty of other restaurants with equal quality food.
Far and away the best restaurant in mammoth lakes. Worth coming just for the pita bread and dips. Loupe de mer is fantastic. Great ambience.
Wait staff was horrible and rude and the owner drunk off his butt.
Great food and great server
Amazing food and cocktails! Recommend the Hades cocktail, Greek salad, filet and crab legs.
If only they could understand that children will always come with their parents. It’s a ski resort, right?
Just come up with a cool Greek kids menu (mini gyros or souvlaki perhaps?).
The lack of flexibility was the difference between a 3 or 4 star review.
By the way, the Moussaka is awesome!
At a ski resort town during a holiday week I expected to be hustled in and out so they could turn the table.....wrong. From the hostess to our server the staff was friendly and casual. they have a great wine list and very good food. I had the trout and it was perfect.
Watch out for the sommelier .....he is a bad influence...4 bottles of great wine :)
I felt like a queen on New Year's Eve. Thank you so much!!!!
The service was outstanding and the wine list was excellent, however the food was certainly not the equivalent to fine dining. The food came out room temperature, the scallops were bland, and the sides were not appetizing at all. It also took a very long time to receive our food and the restaurant was not full. This is our third time eating here and did not have this experience our first two times. Our bill was over $600. Will be eating elsewhere the next time we are in Mammoth.
This is a great experience for Mammoth. The atmosphere is festive. The food is exotic for the mountains. The menu is heavy on animal protein. I only wish that they had more vegetarian and vegan options. Nonetheless, they were able to adjust a few items for our preferences.
Wonderful food and fantastic service (especially considering that the place was packed). This was our second visit in two weeks, and we plan to be back soon!
A little pricey. Half of the tables were empty but we had problems asking to switch a table to be able to sit next to our friends.
Otherwise staff is friendly and food is outstanding
Initially seated at table with broken window so very cold. Asked to be moved which eventually happened but restaurant was very cold . Diners were sat at their tables wearing jackets and hats. Food and service average although it was Boxing Day so very busy . No atmosphere and overall food very expensive . Will not be visiting or recommending this restaurant
We came here for Christmas Dinner and had an absolutely wonderful time. The food is just outstanding! It was apparent that the ingredients were fresh, and all our food was cooked to perfection. Very happy with our experience. Highly recommend it!
Christmas Day dinner was delicious!
Always great food, interesting and well presented. The lamb is especcially good.
I’ve never had a restaurant experience like this before. First, our confirmed online reservation was lost, and the manager wasn’t particularly sympathetic, but finally found us a table. When we ordered our food, there had to be a problem in the kitchen, because it took close to an hour for our food to come out, and we only were attended to when we got the indifferent manager to come to our table to find out what was happening. When the food finally arrived it was only lukewarm and had to be sent back. It still wasn’t hot when it came out again, so some of our party sent it back. They did take some of the items we ordered off our bill, but we would have preferred to pay, and just had a nice night out. The whole experience was bizarre.
Most friendly staff. Perfect dining experience for our Christmas Eve. Loved the atmosphere!
Good food, but slightly over priced. Nice wine selection. Could have a few more options for kids.
Great meal, food and atmosphere was perfect. Wine list is huge with lots to choose.
Good food. No properly priced kids menu.
We happen to be there when they featured their new menu. A bit disappointing because we chose that restaurant based on some of the old menu offerings as posted on OpenTable...no more souvlaki offered. More focused on upscale offerings hence the new menu prices were much higher than expected. For family of four we shared two entrees - Rack of Lamb, Filet Oscar plus two appetizers Diver Scallops and Beef Tartare and a classic Greek Salad. All food items were well prepared except the beef tartare had too much of the stringy ligaments to contend with but it did have good flavor. Overall a bit pricey ($35-50+ for entrees) for what you get and a little hungry still. Note: we were told that there would be six pieces of scallops but we only got five (see photo).
We met family & friends here for my birthday dinner and could not believe how fabulous it was! Tony's Peartini, Chip's wine selections, Jeremy's cuisine, and Stuart's service could not have been better!! The Bruschetta appetizer was the best we've ever had as were all the appetizers. The food was incredible (Cioppino, Scallops, Steak). Can't wait to go back!!
Average at best
Service very good and friendly. Food was a disappointment and lacks identity. Supposed to be Greek , at the entrance says seafood, inside they claim Mediterranean (playing brasilian music which btw I love so no complains there). Stay away from the Risotto..
The food here was quite poor. The chopped salad was the best part. The mussaka was weird. There were vegetables that are never in mussaka, and long stringy cheese. The risotto was cold on the the outside edges and too hot in the middle, so probably microwaved. The risotto came with a Parmesan crisp that was so thick and hard it was difficult to eat. The scallops were good but not the greens that came with it “sucked”.
Unexpected to find such excellent Greek cuisine and diverse choices in Mammoth Lakes, CA. A treat after a day of hiking. We loved the Babba Ganoush, Hummus, and Tzatziki dips with pita; Spanakopita was perfect; Greek Salad memorable. Rissoto excellent; rack of lamb delicious. Nice wine list. Our server Athena was welcoming and knowledgeable. We returned two nights later!
1st experience at Jimmy's Taverna, this is the old Ocean Harvest. The bar is part of the dining room there is no separation. We were early so we decided to have a cocktail & appetizer at the bar we looked at the bar menu & were informed that the kabobs/keftas are only available at the bar.. Its a greek restaurant that serves Greek food, & one of the most traditional dishes is not available if you sit at a table (WTF). The bartender was pleasant & the cocktails were good (pricing is weird..charged $4 vodka & $3 mix & olives). We chose the Olivada as an appetizer crushed olives, garlic, oregano it was so salty it was barely edible. The bartender told us because it was a slow night if one of us wanted the kabobs/keftas at our table it would be OK he recommended the Loupe De Mer. We sat in the dining room my wife ordered the kabobs/keftas plate I ordered the Loupe De Mer. It took over 45 minutes for dinner to arrive our waitress came & apologized 3 times for the long wait. As our dinner arrived you could smell the Loupe De Mer (that cat food fish smell) Loupe De Mer is Mediterranean Sea Bass or Branzino, when I mentioned that the fish smelled very strong & it looked more like a trout then Bronzino I upset the bartender (he served our meal) there were now 4 tables. He assured me it was Loupe De Mer & that it was fresh. The kabob/keftas & sides were great!
This is no Kokkari Estiatorio as the bartender said it was.
Here is some simple math the fish was caught in the Mediterranean Sea (day 1), goes to port & processed (2), Its moved to shipping (3), Its shipped to the US (4-5), it arrives at US customs and is processed & sent to the importer & sent out to a distributor (6-8) product is ordered & delivered to the end user (9). If my math is off by a day or 2 this fish arrives in Mammoth at a minimum of 7 days old. It would be better frozen it would be fresher, I have no idea how long it was in the kitchen for. Remember "Fish and visitors stink after three days"
Passed by this restaurant many times meaning to come for dinner. Was worth the trip. Beautiful room, great food, friendly and professional service. One of the better places in Mammoth for a tasteful dining experience, casual yet still high end.
Much better fare than the overpriced rseort food in the village. All you have to do is drive less than 2 milea for a really good meal!
Our party of 6 had a wonderful meal. I had the Chicken which was cooked to perfection and the quinoa was very flavorful. 3 of our group had the scallops which were very tasty, flavored to perfection. One person had the trout which was delicious. One of our group had the bruchetta and the Greek Salad which was also very nicely done. We also tried the sampler of dips with the pita bread and they were all very flavorful and tasty. Our waiter was very helpful and accommodating. One issue we had was the fact that it took so long for us to get our entree. We could see the wait staff running around like crazy and based on what I could see going on in the kitchen, it almost seemed as if you may have been unexpectedly short staffed. Either way, that should not happen. We noted people that were sitting at the bar that came after us were served prior. We will be back but perhaps you need to look at a few things so that the whole experience is a fantastic one. Our waiter, Stewart, was superb.
