The food here was quite poor. The chopped salad was the best part. The mussaka was weird. There were vegetables that are never in mussaka, and long stringy cheese. The risotto was cold on the the outside edges and too hot in the middle, so probably microwaved. The risotto came with a Parmesan crisp that was so thick and hard it was difficult to eat. The scallops were good but not the greens that came with it “sucked”.
Unexpected to find such excellent Greek cuisine and diverse choices in Mammoth Lakes, CA. A treat after a day of hiking. We loved the Babba Ganoush, Hummus, and Tzatziki dips with pita; Spanakopita was perfect; Greek Salad memorable. Rissoto excellent; rack of lamb delicious. Nice wine list. Our server Athena was welcoming and knowledgeable. We returned two nights later!
1st experience at Jimmy's Taverna, this is the old Ocean Harvest. The bar is part of the dining room there is no separation. We were early so we decided to have a cocktail & appetizer at the bar we looked at the bar menu & were informed that the kabobs/keftas are only available at the bar.. Its a greek restaurant that serves Greek food, & one of the most traditional dishes is not available if you sit at a table (WTF). The bartender was pleasant & the cocktails were good (pricing is weird..charged $4 vodka & $3 mix & olives). We chose the Olivada as an appetizer crushed olives, garlic, oregano it was so salty it was barely edible. The bartender told us because it was a slow night if one of us wanted the kabobs/keftas at our table it would be OK he recommended the Loupe De Mer. We sat in the dining room my wife ordered the kabobs/keftas plate I ordered the Loupe De Mer. It took over 45 minutes for dinner to arrive our waitress came & apologized 3 times for the long wait. As our dinner arrived you could smell the Loupe De Mer (that cat food fish smell) Loupe De Mer is Mediterranean Sea Bass or Branzino, when I mentioned that the fish smelled very strong & it looked more like a trout then Bronzino I upset the bartender (he served our meal) there were now 4 tables. He assured me it was Loupe De Mer & that it was fresh. The kabob/keftas & sides were great!
This is no Kokkari Estiatorio as the bartender said it was.
Here is some simple math the fish was caught in the Mediterranean Sea (day 1), goes to port & processed (2), Its moved to shipping (3), Its shipped to the US (4-5), it arrives at US customs and is processed & sent to the importer & sent out to a distributor (6-8) product is ordered & delivered to the end user (9). If my math is off by a day or 2 this fish arrives in Mammoth at a minimum of 7 days old. It would be better frozen it would be fresher, I have no idea how long it was in the kitchen for. Remember "Fish and visitors stink after three days"
Passed by this restaurant many times meaning to come for dinner. Was worth the trip. Beautiful room, great food, friendly and professional service. One of the better places in Mammoth for a tasteful dining experience, casual yet still high end.
Much better fare than the overpriced rseort food in the village. All you have to do is drive less than 2 milea for a really good meal!
Our party of 6 had a wonderful meal. I had the Chicken which was cooked to perfection and the quinoa was very flavorful. 3 of our group had the scallops which were very tasty, flavored to perfection. One person had the trout which was delicious. One of our group had the bruchetta and the Greek Salad which was also very nicely done. We also tried the sampler of dips with the pita bread and they were all very flavorful and tasty. Our waiter was very helpful and accommodating. One issue we had was the fact that it took so long for us to get our entree. We could see the wait staff running around like crazy and based on what I could see going on in the kitchen, it almost seemed as if you may have been unexpectedly short staffed. Either way, that should not happen. We noted people that were sitting at the bar that came after us were served prior. We will be back but perhaps you need to look at a few things so that the whole experience is a fantastic one. Our waiter, Stewart, was superb.
Solid food with friendly service. It sort of feels like you’re really in Greece (when you’re really in the High Sierra).
My wife and I went to Mammoth to attend a wedding and some hiking / Jeeping. We enjoy going out to eat together and like to try different places. To be honest we were slightly disappointed with most places we ate at in Mammoth... Until we decided to try Jimmys!
We used Open Table because of the busy Labor Day weekend and it made getting a reservation very easy. Our experience was completely fantastic. I'm sorry but I have forgotten our servers name, but he went above and beyond excellent service and made or time truly enjoyable. The "Apollo" cocktails were great, the Heirloom Bruschetta was an excellent start, my wife's filet was done just as she desired, I enjoyed the scallops and then a wonderful Baklava for dessert. Also, would we have ever tried Peach Cognac? NO. But, our server brought to us each a small glass to try. It was wonderful and a very nice touch from the server. How would he have even known my wife loves peachy flavors?!

I loved this restaurant. We’ve been coming to Mammoth for 10 years and this was our first time. The food was excellent, huge wine selection and the staff went over and above. Service was excellent. We will be back!

The bar menu and the dinner menu are different. It would be nice to have the option of ordering from either menu, or have all the bar menu items on the main menu.
Had the table sampler dips to start (choose 3 for $15 or 6 for $24), HEIRLOOM BEET --
baby beets, scarlet kale, goat cheese panna cotta, almonds, citrus vinaigrette and the CIOPPINO ~ FISHERMAN’S STEW -- shrimp, mussels, oyster, salmon, potato, tomato broth. Everything was pretty tasty. Cioppino was VERY tasty, but could have had more of everything (great taste less filling!).
Chip was the Wine Connoisseur and recommended some great, reasonably priced wines.
We went to Jimmy's Taverna to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were so impressed with the restaurant. The wait staff is professional and efficient and the food is excellent. The menu is not huge (good) but has inventive dishes with varied textures and flavors. I had the Tasmanian trout and my husband had the lamb chops. Both came with very interesting side dishes to accompany the main dish. We were very pleased with the entire experience!
Dined here Thursday night and the food was good but the service was horrible. It took a half hour to get a glass of wine and 1 1/4 hours to get our appetizers. They did comp the appetizers and said something about staff from LA. The meal took about 1 3/4 hours to arrive. We had no salads. The Bruchetta and Hummus dip were great. And the scallops, octopus salad, seafood soup and lamb chops were very good. The flourless chocolate cake was not good. The atmosphere is casual but there were table cloths and a fine dining atmosphere. Assumed this was just an off night for service.
Water came with something black floating. Not good
The restaurant is upstairs and not air-conditioned; stay away in hot weather. Food is good to excellent depending on what you order. Greek salad was no lettuce and mostly sliced green and red peppers - not my favorite. Athena our waitress was terrific.

Poor value. Extremely poor selection of seafood dishes considering you state good seafood dining. Very overpriced. Will not be back.

Ive been waiting to get into Jimmy's for about 4 different seasons and went early this year and hit the head on the nail by not having to wait long for a seating! Well worth it and was better then we thought it to have been from the rumors to be sure to try to get in!!
From the very wonderful friendly Host to the fine knowledgeable Waiter when ordering our wine and food, the Chief's meals delivered to us was better then could have been found anywhere in the area. Thanks again and see you in the winter season if we get so lucky to a booking with you to dine again!
Exceptionally slow service, everyone served at different times, food was average. Overall not a good eaperience
Overall food was good. My friend had one of their specials - halibut. It came on a bed of grilled corn. For the price of $44, she felt the price was too high for the lacking side although she did say the halibut was prepared perfectly. We both enjoyed the crab stack and I liked my cioppino. Service was good. Waited a little bit for check to be picked up since waiter was serving a huge party also.
Only snag was restaurant reported to Opentable that we didn't show up for our reservation. Don't appreciated that snafu when we spent $100+ on dining there.
This was the most expensive restaurant that we dined at during our 10 days in mammoth.
That said the food wine and service were very good
Wonderful meal and service with a stellar wine list. Having eaten at all of the go to places in Mammoth this is top 2-3 along with Lakefront. Did not get to Convict as the weather turned but what a treat!
The food was good, price was to be expected for a resort town. Service was good at the beginning and then our waiter just disappeared towards the end of our meal. Never asked about drinks once we received our first one. Had to wait for 30 minutes after we finished our meal before waiter came to check on us and to get the check.
Great food beautiful and not chaotic
Last night in Mammoth and we wanted a special meal. These guys delivered. We loved the flaming cheese, the 6 dipping sauces, the loup de mer - cooked to perfection. what a great night and meal. Only weird thing with all this excellent cooking my son's risotto was way undercooked. He ate the entire thing and said it was interesting to eat. I tasted it, it was only partially cooked. If they had cooked it correctly WOW!!!! The meal would have been perfection.
All was good except for my Mushroom Risotto which was not good at all. Specifically, it was dry, pasty and flavorless. I am still kicking myself for not mentioning this to our waiter at the time but I was trying to turn over a new less-grumpy leaf in my life. I guess it was my mistake for ordering it at a Greek fish restaurant but then I have found that not every restaurant offers it and when they do it is usually excellent. My order had the consistency and taste of "left over from yesterday". My mistake, as I admit, but all else was good - waiter, service, ambience, etc. - even the extra large round cheese wafer they jammed upright into the middle of the dish. It was Holy Week after all.
Always love coming to this place when we are in Mammoth. Our table ordered the Greek salad, poached pear salad, the halibut, and king crab legs. The seafood was fresh and delightful. The salads were awesome! We also finished with the chocolate flourless torte which was to die for. I definitely recommend this place! It is certainly our new favorite place in mammoth.
Greek salad was the only item that I can imagine going back there for. Halibut special was not a lot of flavor. Chicken was dried.
Unfortunately, our order was completely lost and we waited for well over an hour for entrées after everyone around us had been served, even those who came in very late after us. At the time my entrée arrived, it was cold and was not cooked through and was obviously hurried. I sent it back. The waiter did a good job accommodating us as did the manager by offering a free glass of wine, an additional salad, and we took a dessert home without charge. It ended up being a long pretty frustrating dinner. The food at Jimmy's is very good and I have eaten there before and will again but this was very disappointing as I brought special guests with me and touted the restaurant ahead of time as to how good it was.

Good food, solid wait service but owner needs to do something about barking and militant hostess even with a reservation, poor form.
The food was okay (particularly the flaming cheese, which was excellent). Service was fine. Nice decor. Restaurant was extremely quiet, but not too surprising for a Sunday night.
The menu listed on OpenTable is not the real menu. There is no burger, there are no gyros. Everything that remain is substantially more expensive; the cheapest entree was around $25. This felt like a bait 'n switch, particularly since I went with some price-conscious friends, carefully selected a restaurant that looked good, and proceeded to drag the group into a more expensive meal than anticipated.
That's the opposite of hospitality. Update your menu online.
A little gem that I've overlooked for the past few years. Great ambiance and even tastier food. Great place for dinner with your significant other or even a good sized group. Fresh fish, huge cuts of meat, and great wines. Portions run large; shareable with the addition of appetizers, or filling enough after a hard day skiing.

Great, fine dining in the heart of Mammoth that still retains that fun, cozy vibe you expect in a ski resort town. Probably the best fish you can get in Mammoth. Tons of tasty starters, salads and mains. You can eat heavy or keep it light. Highly recommend and will go back again.
We are from LA and don’t know many restaurants up here but this came up on open table and all of the reviews were great. Had some boarders on the hill suggest it as well and it was delicious!! The portions for some things are on the smaller side— such as the Spanikopita (spelling) — but so yummy! The lamb is a must have!!
We can with many kids and the restaurant was more upscale than we had known. We were treated very graciously none the less.
