Jimmy's An American Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Generally we like Jimmy's, but food on this most recent visit was mixed. The filet was great, but the American-style Kobe beef ribeye cap was disappointing. Why do they smother the entire plate with fried onions? It not only looks unappetizing, but usually suggests the kitchen is trying to cover something up. Odd presentation for a pricey cut of meat (which also was a bit overdone).
They made us wait to seat us and when we got into the dining room there were a bunch of empty tables. Our reservation was at 9pm and they sat us at 9:20pm. Even though there were plenty of empty tables throughout the evening, the table of four right next to us decided to make it a table for seven with three additions they’d met in the bar. One of the men moved his chair so far back, he was between my husband and myself throughout our meal. They were extremely loud and I was very surprised the manager didn’t move us. The food was good and the waitstaff were very attentive. I think if we had been at a different table, it would have been a better experience. This is not something I would expect from a highly recommended restaurant. The bar was extremely crowded and it took most of the twenty minute wait to get the bartender’s attention. I don’t expect to be served right away but a simple acknowledgement would go a long way instead of acting like they are doing you a favor by pouring you a drink. It seems like you have to by pushy or rude to get anywhere. Too bad.
We love Jimmy's for the atmosphere, but what they serve for the money is immorally expensive. Do NOT ever order that tuna tartare, when the plate came to the table we were shocked, there was hardly any tuna tartar on that plate, as a restaurant owner or chef, I would be ashamed to serve a portion that sizeI, one needed glasses to see the tartare. I tried the pork, nothing special, not bad, but also a dish not to remembered. You get better pork at Su Casa for a lot less money. I would recommend to stay simple at Jimmy's, a Hamburger and fries, that might be ok. But with the tuna tartare they served us, they basically called us stupid idiots. The only real reason to go is the atmosphere.
Jimmy's is always on our "must visit" list when we're in Aspen. Regarding meals, its the highlight of our trip! The staff is always extremely knowledgeable and professional and we've never had a bad meal! Probably the best steak I've ever had! Keep up the good work!
What a great find! A locally-owned restaurant that's been in Aspen for 20 years. Our first time and the food and service were phenomenal. We were pleasantly surprised by the knowledge of our server about tequila and whisky, which we drink often. Their Japanese whisky selection is one of the best I've seen, and we splurged on the Hibiki 17 year old. The sommelier was also very helpful in assisting us to choose a great bottle of burgundy to go with our steaks. The place was packed when we were there and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. We will definitely return on our next trip.
My group of three ordered mussels, lobster mac and cheese and a 20 oz. ribeye. The lobster mac and cheese literally had no lobster in it. Not a single piece. We mentioned this to our waiter, thinking that, perhaps there had been some mistake. He brought us a second order of the dish and, once again, zero lobster (and very little cheese). The dish was basically some plain macaroni with a tiny bit of cheese baked on the top. Disappointing, to say the least. The mussels were ok, but its white wine sauce was nothing to praise. We didn't even want to dip our bread in it, as I usually want to do with a good white wine sauce. When the waiter removed the dish from our table, he did it so quickly that he sloshed mussel/wine sauce all of the table and floor. He didn't even notice nor did he bring a replacement napkin upon request after I used mine to clean up the mess. The steak was acceptable and the mashed potatoes it came with were actually good. The meal concluded it a "Volcano Cake" for desert - also nothing to write home about. Basically a Little Debbie's Hostess cake with some fudge sauce on top. Clearly not fresh ingredients and probably not even made on site. This restaurant was not worth our time or money.
This was a reservation for my spouse’s birthday, made weeks in advance. Our table was in the wait staff station, beside a ratty drape that covered an outside deck used for storage. Waitstaff for the entire restaurant had to circle our table constantly, squeezing between our chairs and the booth beside us. Later in our meal, we were asked to stand so that a wheelchair patron could enter the restaurant. Staff pulled our table into the room, opened a sliding door unto the unused storage deck where the patron and family waited, and led them all through the aisle where our table had been. (Our table had been blocking the only fire egress/handicapped access in the restaurant!). We were left standing in the middle of another aisle, so we moved our table chairs etc. back in place to continue our meal (no help from staff). Our waitress was slow and snarky to the only staff member who seemed to realize we were customers, rather than people who were in their way all night. Anton you rock, but we will not return.
