Jimmy V's Osteria + Bar - Downtown Raleigh
Book your next event with us
We had a 730PM reservation and asked if it was at all possible to be seated at 645PM due to our event ending earlier than expected. Despite more than 20 open tables, inside and outside, the Hostess said she could not seat us earlier.
We returned for our reservation time and was not greeted for close to three minutes, and was hastily seated by the hostess that wouldn’t/didn’t even look at us.
Service from our server was decent; nice kid. The underside of our pizza wasn’t cooked as much as I would like or have come to expect from a wood fired pizza oven. Wings and our shrimp appetizer were fantastic.
We’d come back again.
This is a repeat visit. Our first visit was amazing. I ordered the seafood bake. The lobster was so light and buttery. The calamari was grand and the service was impeccable. We visited again on Saturday and it was a less than desirable experience. We had a reservation and had to an additional wait of 20 minutes to be seated because the hostess was new. I ordered the seafood bake again this time. The meal was different and it was not indicated on the menu. The lobster is now stuffed , I was not a fan of the stuffing, and was over cooked. The shrimp was good. The service was relatively slow. They weren’t crowd and we waited about 35 minutes get our entrees. We will probably return but we were very disappointed with this experience.
The venue is noisy and cavernous adjacent to a Sheraton hotel. Not a place for locals. Virtually no ambience. The calamari was over fried, resulting in chewy, dry bites. The pizza had very little flavor and, again, was very dry. We’ve eaten at Jimmy V’s steakhouse and it’s amazing - refined and elegant with wonderful food. Skip this tourist trap.
I’ll preface this by saying this place is normally great. We raved about it to my wife’s mother and took her there as a Mother’s Day gift. I honestly don’t know what happened but here are the. Cliff notes:
1.) the server we got didn’t know the details of the brunch menu (I asked if it was a brunch buffet was told quickly yes we ordered it and then found out that it was partial and then we were on the hook for a buffet pricing)
2.) the kids buffet had 6 things listed and only 3 were out when I asked them about it they told me no, I showed them the menu, and then they spent the next 20 cooking the things I told them were on their menu. (And we were there at 11:45 so it’s not like we were the first ones there).
3.) our first drinks came 20 minutes after ordering, asking about them a second and thirds time and only half the restaurant was full so it wasn’t busy
4.) after the beginning of our meal, while waiting for our entrees, our complete table was bussed including silverware plates etc. We were given our food w no way to actually eat it.
5.) multiple times throughout the meal our server was visible but impossible to get her attention. Every request was with an added delay of 15 minutes.
Again disappointing considering my wife and I have eaten there a lot over the years and on Mother’s Day for her mom that was her moms first experience of the place.
Came for a special occasion (NCSU graduation) based on the reputation of restaurant. Ordered 3 ribeye steaks and all 3 were undercooked and cold. The quality of the steaks were disappointing as well. Would not come back.
It was a date night with my fiancé and we got there and took a while to be seated. There were clearly tables open for us to sit but to hostess to seat us. Our waiter was extremely friendly and good. We had the Jimmys V pizza, it was tasty but a little to oily for me. Overall great place !
We visited on a recent Friday evening for dinner. Seating outside was pleasant and offered a nice view of the plaza area. Our entrée choices, the lamb ragu and stuffed ravioli, were well-prepared but not exceptional. Side items, such as vegetables or salad, are ala carte. Overall, Jimmy V's came across as routine Italian fare with pricing set by its location and not for the value of the meals.
The wings were not cooked all the way through!! Sprite machine down, drinks were not mixed well at all!! Just a horrible overall experience!!
I selected Jimmy V's for our Easter brunch. It was buffet style, but the food quality wasn't particularly good. Limited selections and food had been 'on the line' for far too long. Our server was very personable and professional, but the ambiance was certainly lacking. Barn wood and 2X4's exposed in plain view. And the music selection defied logic. We did not have drinks, but our bill for two was $100. No, I can't recommend the restaurant unfortunately despite high hopes that we might have been visiting a new dining establishment to add to our list of Raleigh favorites.
The food was amazing & our waitress, Andrea, was so kind, welcoming & accommodating.
The service was polite but lack luster and slow. The food was only ok and was not worth how much the restaurant charges since there are way better places to eat at this price point. The seafood arrabbiatta lacked flavor, tasted like Ragu out of the jar, and had zero spice to it plus there were no clams. The fish creation of the day was better since the fish was well cooked and the risotto had good flavor but was dry. Overall, between the service, food, and the prices, I’d much rather go somewhere else.
It was okay. The prices are a little high on the seafood. The spicy spaghetti is spicy so beware that it has some serious heat. My food took about 25 minutes and their were only a handful of guests at 5:30 on a Wednesday night.
Service was horrible. Server took 20 minutes to brink a glass of wine. Another 15 to bring the sparkling water. Food didn’t come out as planned. Server didn’t come back. Food was just ok. Wouldn’t order the beet and kale pizza again. Greasy and the vegan cheese was weird tasting. Burger over cooked. Salads were mediocre for the price. No bread offered even though there were bread plates and oil on the table. Had to keep asking others for water as our server would disappear.
We had a great time! The reservation was only for 2 people but we picked up a few friends along the way and the staff were super accommodating. It took a while to get our drinks from the bar but once they arrived, they were great. Our food and service were awesome. Travis was very helpful! Thanks.
Very good food, drinks, and service. Nice location.
Great food and service. Very lively and energetic atmosphere!
Not really an Italian restaurant with menu like you'd find in Seaford, LI, Jimmy V's hometown. Fun atmosphe, decor and location with great, nostalgic photos of Jimmy V's life! Much more casual then images on Yelp portray. Prices are very reasonable but menu choices are weird. Only 2-3 pasta choices and their pizza can't hold candle to CA Pizza Kitchen or Pizzeria Toro in downtown Durham or La Stella in Cary. Service was good not great. Great and noble purpose with restaurant profits going to V Foundation however culinary staff and owners ought to take trip to Naples or perhaps LI to see what a true Osteria serves and tastes like. As huge Jimmy V fan going back to his days as coach at Iona I'm sorry best I could give is 3 star!
This was my second visit. I ordered the kale salad and it was "sandy". I mentioned this to our server. He apologized, but nothing was done in "compensation." Sandy salad aside, I think the food here is average. Nothing special. I think we'll move on and try another place next time.
Service was not good. Food was fair. Some things were very good. The baked oysters were not good. Very dry.
Had reservations at 5:30. Was seated ordered appetizer. Received appetizer. It was great. Waited for dinner never came. Waitress said she checked on it and it was coming. Finally at 6:35 we had to leave without eating dinner. Going to play and couldn’t wait any longer. Very disappointed!!
Outstanding service Despite busy lunch crowd. Our server went above and beyond to ensure that we received quality service which made our dining experience pleasurable. The food was amazing our table ordered a variety of the menu options ranging from spaghetti and meatballs to the steak salad, salmon, wings, and pizza. Everything was exceptional! I will most definitely revisit this establishment again in the near future. Thank you all for ensuring that our dining experience was 1st class!
Overpriced, mediocre food in a chaotic environment.
Wait staff very friendly and never felt rushed. Fun and lively atmosphere. Lots to look out. We ordered pizza and split the Italian Chopped salad; everything tasted fresh and the thin pizza crust had great taste. Only gave 4 stars on service because we asked for no G O R G O N Z O L A on the five cheese pizza and wasn't told whether it was on there or not.
Typical eatery attached to a hotel. Menu has decent variety and the wait service was good. Host desk could use some training on awareness. Both people had their backs to the front door shooting the breeze with one of their colleagues (who could see me standing there), so I stood there for quite a bit before either one noticed I was there for my reservation. I didn't say anything, just to see how long they would chit chat before they finally realized there was a customer behind them wanting to be seated....
Waitress I had was good, friendly and attentive without being around too much. Food was average. I had the roasted chicken with risotto, and a chopped salad (which was very good). Chicken was overcooked and somewhat dry, but they did a fine job on the risotto, which isn't easy to do in a high volume setting. They had several very large groups in the restaurant, and it didn't impact the service, which tells me they did a good job on the staff loading relative to the reservation load for the night.
The one thing that really bothered me was when a girl dragged a 50 Gal. trash can through the dining room....it's like...do you really think anyone dining in this restaurant wants to see a big dirty trash can get dragged to the bar when they're eating a meal? I'm not talking about in the background, I'm talking straight through the middle of the restaurant....
What can I say, situational awareness amongst staff is important if you really want to insure that your guests have a memorable experience. Or if you don't care, well I guess you don't care...
Probably was there on a bad night - large party was taking place. Therefore, our food was late and was't cooked as requested. Overall, a nice atmosphere and I'm sure the food is normally better.
Service was very attentive. Two ribeyes and calamari app were great!
Overall the food was good however the waitress was not on point and was not good at service. But the food was amazing
Reservations worked out great! Walked in and our table was ready. However, once the waitress took our order, she never returned. I never received the bread that was to come with the spaghetti nor ketchup for fries. Finally flagged down a passing worker who came back with bread and ketchup. We waited so long to check out that we took our checks to the counter to check ourselves out. We were on a tight schedule and needed to get back. Returned today for lunch and were seated immediately. We were two of just a few customers in the restaurant, however, it took 48 minutes to get spaghetti and salmon. Both were delicious, but service on both days was not stellar. Again, we were on a schedule. Food is very good. Service was inconsistent.
Everything was wonderful!
Food was terrible and overpriced for what it was. Would not recommend.
Good environment and prices. Immediately greeted by hostess. Pleasant with seat for family facicing kitchen. Kids ordered pizza but crust was soggy. Daughter ordered burger, bun also soggy so she only ate fries. Wife had salmon and enjoyed every bite. I had chicken, very dry but risotto cooked perfect. Waiter very attentive. Price very reasonable.
We had dinner for Valentine's Day, and Jimmy V's was featuring special prix fixe meals for the occasion. Two choices for each course, which all looked good, so we decided to have one of everything, and share. Each and every item was superb! A very fresh salad of mixed greens with mandarin oranges and broiled, spiced prawns for starters. Sea bass -- very delicate and flavorful -- over a yummy risotto, and a filet with Yukon mashed potatoes for entrees. I was delightfully shocked that the steak I ordered medium rare was actually medium rare and seared on the crust -- not just sorta pink in the middle. Finally, the desserts were to die for: a chocolate torte and a pistachio cake. Our waiter was attentive and responsive. We walked over to the open kitchen when leaving and complimented all the chef staff. The only slight surprise was that we weren't given bread as a standard starter, even though the table was set with bread plates and a dispenser of olive oil. But I noticed no other table that had been served bread. And when we asked for it, it was very tasty herbed bread. Altogether, just an excellent dining experience for two Valentines very much in love.
I attended Jimmy V's Osteria + Bar in Downtown Raleigh on Valentine's Day. I guess I picked the wrong day to go. I was looking forward to getting that 12 oz. Ribeye steak with the garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus, but they did not have it on the menu for that particular day. I was looking to take my date to a restaurant with a different atmosphere, which it was great. She was impressed with the atmosphere as well. I am considering going back to see how well the menu item I was looking forward to taste.
Great great service!! Great atmosphere! Just wished for more options on the menu, but overall awesome place.
Valentines Day dinner. Made res and was told only 2 tables left. We showed up on time and the restaurant was basically empty. They told me they had their regular menu and a special Valentine's Day menu. Their regular menu did not exist it was a stripped down menu basically forcing you to take the VD menu. $65.00 for either Sea Bass or 8oz filet with a scope of mashed potatoes. The sea bass was dry and tasteless, the steak was above average. The meal was grossly overpriced. BTW no drinks were included. The atmosphere for VD was with TV's playing loudly in the background. I would never go back for dinner. Value perceived is value achieved in this case value was NOT ACHIEVED.
Becoming our favorite eatery when we visit the Theater. Food is always delicious , & Super Friendly staff.
Coming from out of state, we usually reserve our table on line, as we solidify our arrival times . We are always greeted by the friendly hostess and quickly seated. we love the atmosphere of a bustling successful establishment . Will be coming back again in May for our next visit . .
Good atmosphere. But the pizza came out cold. Server was very friendly and took pizza back to “warm” it up but that’s all it was. Just warm not hot and bubbly.
Enjoyed a lunch during Restaurant Week. The food was quite good, including salad pork shanks with pasta, and mini cannolis. The servers were pleasant and welcoming. My only complaint was that the dishes came a little fast. For example, the pasta came before all of us had finished salads, and the desserts were placed on the table before any of us had finished the pasta. This made us feel a bit rushed, to say the least. But we’ll visit the restaurant in the near future.
Overall good experience, second visit. Good location for pre-post theatre dining or beverages.
Food was great
