Jimmy V's Osteria + Bar - Downtown Raleigh Ratings and Reviews
A server didn’t come to our table until after 10 mins when we asked the manager who happen to come to a table near by to get us one. The manager took our drink and appetizer order and that came out nice and quick. Once we did have a server the rest of the meal went well. It was a birthday occasion which I specified on open table but it didn’t seem as though they did anything special for birthdays. Overall the food was great. We had the bruschetta appetizer and the wood fired oysters - both were great. The steak salad and eggplant parmesan were both delicious as well.
I had a reservation with my husband on NYE and was seated right away. The food was just ok, nothing special. I had seafood spaghetti and hubby had ribeye steak. Our waiter was not attentive at all. We never refilled our water or brought out the bread ( we asked him twice!) overall it was just ok. We prob would never go back or recommend it to our friends.
It was NYE and it was busy but our waiter tried to do his best! The food was good but came super quickly (we got the three course meal). Our appetizer took 45 minutes to receive but we had no break between that, our entree, and dessert. It was a little rushed.
The food was delicious! I would eat there again on a normal day.
Dined here on New Years Eve and it was a great experience. I have eaten here about a half dozen times and will say the food is always great and the management and operations of this restaurant are excellent. They know how to handle a large crowd and maintain the same high quality food and dining experience one would get any other day of the week when their kitchen isn’t slammed with a full house.
We were sat outside as a party of 10 on the patio with plastic covering that was not sealed on New Year’s Eve night with a temperature of 26 degrees. I made this reservation three weeks in advance. We were brought one floor space heater and told they are working on the issue but we could not be moved. Our waiter was great, but it was freezing cold our entire dinner. We asked to be moved to another table but told that there were too many reservations and the table sat empty for over an hour. Very poor customer service.
I wasn't sure of what to expect because there were so many bad reviews written. Given the fact that this was also New Year's Eve, I was expecting very slow service and long waits from the kitchen. I was wrong on both... Service was immediate and very polite. Received our drinks quickly and there were no delays with taking the food order. There were 4 of us so we had the lamb rack and the short ribs. Food was tasty and hot. The ribs were extremely tender.
Our first time dining at Jimmy V’s and it was fantastic. Easy to get a reservation for 2 and they called to verify the day of which was great. Dined with my wife on a Saturday night and everything was on point. Service was fast and friendly, food was hot, portions were a good size. You will NOT leave here hungry. Music selection was all 80’s and you could see people quietly bouncing along to the familiar tunes in their chairs all over. Overall a really wonderful experience . We will definitely be back!
I had a 5:30 reservation. When we arrived, we were seated immediately. However it took over 10 minutes for any waitstaff to acknowledge us. Finally a young man asked if anyone had helped us. When we said no, he told us he would do so. Which he did as best he could with not being in our area much. We were handed lunch menus when we were seated so I had to ask for dinner menus. When we got the correct menus, it did not match what was on their website so I unfortunately was unable to order what I wanted. The food was good but nothing I would recommend or go back to have.
We were a little leery after reading some unfavorable reviews, but our waitress was very attentive and the food was good. We had an early reservation before the theater yet the only table open and available was closest to the door. We declined and asked to sit on the heated patio. All in all, a pleasant meal.
Went to Jimmy V’s pre-theater with reservations on open table. Tried to sit us right by the service area and were put out when we asked to be reseated. Did not receive our oyster appetizer and my husbands pizza was delivered incorrect. A very disappointing experience. Will not dine here again
Great ambiance but my husband does a much better ribeye on the grill. It was advertised as 12 oz but was ridiculously thin; however, cook on it was decent. Not much flavor. Daughter and husband said Caesar salad was good (comparatively to Panera).
We would go for drinks before a show but go somewhere else for dining.
We never received our food. The waiter forgot to turn in our order. After waiting for 45 minutes for food, we ended up leaving without eating. We went there for dinner before going to a play. Total disaster!! We went to the play hungry! Ended up eating after the play at 10pm.
The food was very good and the atmosphere was good. A little noisy but overall a good experience. The service was a little off. We sat in the dark for awhile until someone came over and turned the lights up. We had to go find a waiter to get a drink and order our food. He got mixed up on the order and had to change the tab several times and still did not get it right but we tried to take it in stride as we figured he was very new and would get better. That won't keep us from coming back, just maybe ask for a different waiter.
Possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. We had a party of seven, admittedly a somewhat larger party, but the restaurant was not even half full. Two people received their food 45 minutes after we sat down, then it was 5 minutes until three more of us did. The kids lunches came out 15 minutes after the first people received theirs.
When my kids still didn't have food, I let the manager know we were still waiting. He said he'd check, but he never came back to our table. Our server seemed oblivious to all of this - never asked how we were doing or noticed only some of us had food. I should mention, he also brought out the wrong drink for one of us and no drink for someone who ordered one, but if that was the worst of the problems it would have been a non-issue.
Worst of all, no one ever apologized or made any notion that this was a disaster. Restaurants have a lot of easy ways to make amends - take something off the bill, throw in a free dessert, etc. - but some acknowledgement that the service was lacking would have at least been nice.
We needed a easy quick meal before the Theatre ...My daughters both had hamburgers and they were oddly greasy . My spinach and goat cheese Was very good . My friends ravioli was delicious but again oddly greasy.
Our waiter was not really there unless we searched him out . It was early so wasn’t sure why he was so not available . But just an off night . We will go back . We do like it normally
Jimmy V's is one of my favorite places to eat in Raleigh. I live in Greensboro and recently had my birthday dinner here. Our server was amazing and very attentive along with another server who often checked in with us as well.(I wish I could remember their names) The food was amazing as well.
they push the woodfire pizzas; but, there are other entrees worth trying. Bread "artistically" presented w/olive oil, sun dried tomatoes(nice touch) and balsamic vinegar drawn in shape of a "V".
Ravioli (w/smoked chicken & gouda cheese) was a bit stuck to the plate; but, 6 large ones nicely presented in a row. Husband had seafood/pasta entree which was very spicy; but, delicious. Restaurant is inside the Sheraton Hotel.
Terrible service. Waited too long after seating for server. Then another 15 minutes for the wrong drinks. When I told her pinot grigiot was a white wine after she brought me red she insisted she brought me the correct wine. Waited over 30 minutes for water. We planned to eat dinner but left after the appetizer.
Our food was very good. I did find a hair in my food which was kind of gross, but it happens. I didn't mention it to the server. We took our kids after the ballet and they had a great time and the noise level was perfect bc we didn't feel like they were the loudest people in the place.
Unfortunately, I am not able to give a glowing review. We had obviously made reservations and it was 35 minutes after our reservation time before we were seated. Staff was not helpful. We ordered very quickly. An hour later we still did not have our entrees. We did have the calamari appetizer and it was tasty. We finally left before we were ever served. I suggest a heavy dose of patience before you visit this restaurant.
In full disclosure, everyone else in my party seemed to enjoy their entrees. I chose the Chicken/Eggplant Parmesan combo. It was flipped over being delivered to my table and arrived a mess. Presentation and taste revealed that chicken consisted of heavily breaded patties that appeared to have come from a frozen food box. Heavily fried, almost burnt. If it hadn't been a special occasion, I'd have sent it back. Waitress noticed my concern but didn't ask any questions. Now I understand why the restaurant is kept so dark.
Sat out the outside dining areas as it was a beautiful evening. Shared the Mozzarella Fritta appetizer, was very good. I had the spaghetti and meatballs, two very large meatballs, again very good. My companion had the Smoked Chicken Ravioli, commented it was best she had eaten. Service was good, but a bit sporadic. Only negative was restaurant reported to open table that we did not honor our reservation, which was later corrected after feedback from me.
