About Permanently Closed - Jimmy G's
This restaurant is permanently closed. At Jimmy G's, the evolution and sophistication is provided by an Art Nouveau meets "Mad Men" design style with black granite floors, red wood paneling with large black and white framed portraits. Steel arc lamps reinforce the modern, mid-century aesthetic. Maintaining the existing layout, the space is divided into three interconnection sections: the lounge bar, a central dining room, and two private dining/banquet areas. Guests enter from the street, down a mysterious stairwell through an arched entry way into the restaurant. In the main dining room, shades of yellow dominate, with mustard seat cushions on white lattice backed chairs. Additional seating in the form of elevated U-shaped booths are great for watching all the excitement of the dining room.

Jimmy G's - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Jimmy G's was our choice for New Year's Eve dinner. We got there and had immediate service then had to wait a short time to order our wine and meal. The server was fun and helpful with our wine choice and meals. Our dinner was scrumptious. All food was extremely good, especially the Surf and Turf, Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were heavenly! We ordered Crème Brulee to share. It took awhile to get to us, but our server was on it. He delivered it himself and checked back to ensure our evening was good. Service was very good. Would have been excellent had we not had to wait on a couple of things, but we were in no hurry so all was good.
Excellent place to eat for New Years Eve! We had dinner followed up by a few drinks at the bar. Everything was fabulous! Knowledgeable and friendly staff, the food was amazing, the drinks were perfection. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for! This is the second time we have eaten here and we will definitely return.
Jason our Waiter was awesome. He went out of his way to make sure my wife's birthday dinner was fun and memorable. He was very knowledgable on bourbons and even suggested an amazing bourbon bar, "Prohibition" for the next stop of our amazing night. I would recommend Jimmy G's to anyone and ask for Jason to be your waiter!
So this is my second time eating at Jimmy G's and both times the experience was the same. The restaurant wasn't very crowded at all but the food and service were both great. This is a great off the beaten path steakhouse! I would highly recommend going there if you've never been!
Looking for a good steak place with other options to keep everyone in your party happy without spending Ruby prices? Then Jimmy Gs might just be the place you are looking for. Excellent wine choices without being overwhelming and their mark ups are very reasonable. Rarely to I mention a restaurant's salad... but Jimmy Gs has awesome ones- plus the serve them on cold plates to keep all the ingredients cold and crisp from first bite to last.
The food itself was great tasting. However, the prices were extraordinarily high. There were 2 in our party each had an entree water to drink dessert and coffee and the bill before tip was $145. Would not go again based solely on the expense we can have just as an enjoyable date and food for half the price elsewhere.
being in the basement made it a no view place, but that was ok
food was good
chef came around and brought samples of some items we did not get
also brought some hot food - as he asked if we liked that
he brought a hot oil that was as hot as anything I've ever eaten (I am in the Cincinnati Pepper club and have some experience here)
bartender and table server were very accommodating and full of info
Jason was an amazing server!! We ended up arriving a bit late but the staff stayed open and let us dine anyway..We had the best service ever...and the food was outstanding..My Filet was cooked to perfection..Overall I had a great dining experience and have no complaints.. I will definitely be going back..
1st time in Cincinnati, and was recommended to us by our neighbor's daughter who lives there. Waiter asked if we liked oysters as they do not always have them. They prepared them in a way we have never had before that were amazing. So he suggested we may also want to try another prep that they do and we did, also delicious. The owner came out and talked with us and asked the server to give us a taste of their watermelon gazpacho which had a little heat but was softened with fresh pineapple. While a steakhouse we both settled on seafood Tuna & Scallops for entrees and both were wonderful. Disappointed that we did not order a steak our server brought a tasting for us, and yes I will do the steak next time.
A very relaxing and enjoyable evening with cordial and educated wait staff, great food and nice quiet ambiance..... wonderful experience!
Did not live up to the reviews I read, really disappointing. Not bad but not great either and certainly not worth full price. I'm not really sure it was worth the 'special' price of $45.
Dined during Do Downtown Week and couldn't decide between Jimmy G's or the Phoenix - my mistake. I was mislead by what seemed like an overwhelming amount of good reviews. I should have paid closer attention to the poor reviews. Our meal was good but not worthy of the menu prices so I'm glad I dined at a special price or I would really feel cheated.
My friend wanted a glass of moscato wine of which they only have one choice and it was out of stock. They have an extensive wine list and while moscato isn't perhaps up to snuff for wine critics you would think they would have more than one choice or make sure they have enough of the only choice so as to not run out.
Our wait staff was superb - engaging, friendly and funny, really impressed with the staff. Our waiter took lots of time with us and explained the menu and answered all of our questions. That being said there were only 2 other tables of diners while we were there so it wasn't exactly busy. During all the Restaurant Weeks I've ever taken advantage of over the years this is the only place that wasn't busy, that really should have been a sign . . .
We tried different dishes between the three of us and while my steak was very good I think the scallops were under cooked however my friend loved them so it's a matter of preference. I prefer mine meaty, she obviously likes them more mushy. The main course of scallops came out on a plate as only scallops, nothing more. We were shorted on the order of some type of side or it was the only main that didn't come with a side - still not sure. Tried the creole crawfish against my better judgement but it was surprisingly good, taste like a mix of crab and lobster to me. Dessert was a wonderful dish of berry lime creme brulee.
Loved the retro vibe of the decor!
Jimmy G's was one of the best meals I've had in Cincinnati, a vibrant spot with great dining and great waiters. Employees of Jimmy G's make you feel like they actually like their job and care which is rare in the food industry. Jimmy G's was a delicious and great meal in Cincinnati.
I was pleased with my food and the service. My only concern is not receiving special service designed for couples celebrating a special occasion like a 22nd wedding anniversary. We have celebrated our wedding anniversary at various 3 - 5 star ranked restaurants and all with the exception of JimmyG's went the extra mile to make our dining experience a great one. Other dining establishments provided cakes, wines, speciality drinks, special decorative seating, notes, etc.
Unfortunately , I would not recommend JimmyG's to anyone who is celebrating something special. Please try to go all out when someone is celebrating a special occasion especially a wedding anniversary no how many years a couple is celebrating.
There really isn't a way to put into words how fantastic this place is, but I'll give it a shot. The first time I came here I had the salmon on the half shell. By far the best salmon I have ever have. The hubby had the filet, of course. Fantastic. He's had a lot of good steak in his life, including world famous steak houses in vegas. This is still, and has always been, his favorite. Cooked perfectly. So much flavor. This time we tried an appetizer. The crab cakes are wonderful. Not sure what the sauce was, but it went with the crab perfectly. For dinner I had the sea scallops. I was feeling a little adventurous because I haven't had them very many times. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Cooked perfectly. A little crispy on top and a lot of flavor. There was squash and something kind of tart with it. The tart and the flavor of the squash was a perfect compliment to the scallops. I'm not sure how he does it, but nobody quite hits the spot like jimmy g. I've slipped into a food come and more than ok staying here for a while.
