Jewel by Tom Schaudel Ratings and Reviews
This place is way over rated. The food is ok but not worth the money. It tries to come off as a high end restaurant but it misses on so many points. For example my wife and I ordered baked oysters and cheese tomato pizza as an appetizer. These were good. We didn’t finish all the pizza so the waiter asks if we wanted it wrappped up. At the same time the entrees arrive. The waiter returns with our appetizer in an “I Love NY” Plastic bag and drops it on our table while we are having our entrees see pic below. Not exactly high end. Another example is the depressed looking floor manager who looks as if he’s the owners’ family member eye balling everyone of the tables. At least at like your happy. Totally unprofessional. To be honest the whole vibe felt like they were losing money or about to go out of business. We went on Friday night at 7 and 1/2 the place was empty.
We had a table in the location I requested. Unfortunately, a group at a nearby table was rudely boisterous, and the older adults did not have the sense to quiet the situation. Food was okay. My husband's meat was inedible...very tough. The restaurant was not crowded, but we had to wait a half hour to have our main course delivered after the appetizer. When our dessert was served, we had to tell the waitress to give us forks. So ... I think we will abstain from dining here again... although the ambience is very attractive.
what a strange night. Had cocktails at bar prior to dinner. Not crowded- but a few people sitting with coats on. Was cold out but not a deep freeze nite. Not one staff member makes a comment as to why. Assume it is cold air coming thru door when opened. Get escorted to our table. Each person around us is bundled up. I ask waiter what's up. Reply is it will take a few minutes to warm up. Others get seated next to us and immediately ask to change tables due to the cold. After many minutes and during appetizer I go to hostess to complain. What I assume is the manager says the heat is broken and they are on the roof fixing it. He says it happens and what do I expect him to do - not his fault. Wasn't blaming him! We changed tables away from windows and had dinner there. More tolerable temp. This is not a comment on food which never disappoints. This is a criticism of Tom S. to have such a disregard for his patrons. Be honest- apologize . Don't just meet and greet ur regulars and have staff make silly excuses. Thought you would be better than this. Was not looking for anything for free- and never got anything anyway. A simple walk around and apology was what you should have done. You should be embarrassed .
Jewel is a lovely restaurant with great ambience. The food, presentation, and service were excellent. My only issue was that the restaurant was chilly in the back section. It was a very cold night and although the windows made for a beautiful view, I needed to wear my jacket for part of the meal.
I visit Jewel Quite often for happy hour with friends, client lunch, dinner. I always have a great experience. The food is always delicious the service staff is friendly and accommodating.
I would recommend this place for client meetings get together with friends date night or special occasion.
A nice get-together with my wife in a booth, first time. We sat at the bar and at tables before.
The meticulousness and expertise with the food were amazing. The beet salad was incredible. The cod was outrageous.
We have been to Daniel, JEAN-Georges, Le Bernadin, the Modern, Kreuther, etc. what a joy to find such caliber on Long Island. Thank you Tom Schaudel and staff.
Jewel delivers every single time. The apps are always out of this world, in particular the grilled oysters and crab. I really like one List, particularly the emphasis on local wines. Chef Tom is a favorite and we always enjoy seeing him in the kitchen. The lemon shortbread for dessert was a perfect ending to our meal.
After seating promptly at 100pm, no one attended to our table until 110pm. Main course came out 40 min after COMPLETION of appetizer. Part of the fix menu included a cheesecake, we requested the cheesecake to go BECAUSE we are now 2 hr and 15 minute since we sat down and the lack of attention to service made us take home the dessert.
On arriving home, we found the cheesecake to be a used salad from someone else.
This place was hot a while back. It is easy to get a reservation and very convenient to get to. However,, after checking in , to be told to wait, then see empty tables to ask again for seating to find out hostess that checked us in , did something wrong, so unprofessional. If they are trying to create the atmosphere that they are busier than they are, don't do that at my expense. waitress was inattentive , never checked in on us after our food was served, just not a great experience. may give them another chance in the future.
Had gone to a party at Jewel a few months ago which was in a private area on another floor and was very good. This time we ate in the restaurant itself. The food and service was very good. Had the skirt steak and frankly the flavor - whatever it was marinated in was absolutely fantastic! My wife had a lobster tail that she raved about. The deserts are sick as well. Had the " chocolate bag" which had vanilla ice cream, banana slices, and whipped cream inside of a little bag made of milk chocolate. The only change I would ask the chef to do is make the bag out of dark chocolate to give it more flavor. The entire meal was fantastic!

This is definitely out favorite restaurant on Long
Good and not so good. The restaurant is beautiful. The food was delicious. The service on the other hand was lacking. There were three tables eating (including us) and while we were outnumbered by the waitstaff, service was not up to expectation. Asked for butter for the bread - twice. Our waitress did not engage with us and did not smile at all. Had to stop her walking by us after dinner plates had been cleared to say we were ready to order dessert. Did not feel the Love. Busboys were absolutely wonderful though. Will return at some point. Disappointed that service was such a turnoff.
The service is wonderful here...great appetizers, order a few and share...good selection of entrees to fit a lot of tastes...even desserts are varied and really good...chocolate bag is the best for 4 on a girl's night out to share! This is a favorite place on Long Island for good food, good ambiance and good friends!
I was dining alone that evening, but the Host and the waiter made me feel very welcome and comfortable! My waiter picked out a beautiful Malbec for me and I trusted him with choosing my entree. The Bronzino was delicate, flavorful, and presented beautifully. What a great find!
We decided to try Jewel since it was a Tom Schaudel restaurant. We were greeted warmly at the reception area and shown to nice table in the back. Restaurant week had nothing to do with it, but we decided to go with the prix fixe menu. We ordered glasses of wine and waited and waited. The waiter finally came with our wine after stopping at another table to pour theirs. I would have expected more individual service. We both ordered the same salad. When they arrived they looked like different salads. I would have expected more in presentation then we got. It looked like there was a large salad bowl in the back and the server just grabbed some tongs and lumped the salad on the plate. The entrees arrived and were tasty but very over salted. Then when dessert arrived (we were served the others selection), which we ordered with the regular meal which I thought was quite odd, they so sweet we couldn't eat. I am not sure if I will even give the restaurant another try. We found the staff to be very green and the food to be imaginative but poorly executed.
