Jewel by Tom Schaudel is a farm to table restaurant offering the bounty of Long Island's fishermen, farmers, and growers. Our contemporary American menu allows you the choice of casual or special occasion dining. There are three private rooms that seat from 16 to 30 guests and a chef's table with seating up to ten. The menu lists This and That as titles. We three all ordered an item from This.
It was a lump crab salad with avocado and a mango sauce, for $18. The server did not explain that "This" meant appetizers.
The lump crab salad had the consistency of tuna salad. None of us could find lump crab in our portions. After we ate it, we were still hungry. We ordered spinach salad.
Our total for the crab appetizer and spinach salad was $31. There is a prix fixe lunch for $24 that offered three courses. We wish that our server had given us more information as we ordered.
While the food was tasty, we were not satisfied with our lunch experience.
Should we return in the future, we would be sure to order from the prix fixe menu.

Thought the place was very nice food was great but the portions could have been bigger and didn't care for the five hostesses just standing their talking while waiting for one of them to acknowledge us to seat us down same thing when trying to get our coats had a 5:30 reservation and was not busy

This was our first time at Jewel---Valentine's Day. The food was delicious, whether it was the filet mignon, shrimp, risotto or the strawberry shortcake dessert(more please!). Our waiter did a fine job. Leaving a rose on the table for the ladies was a nice idea. One suggestion-don't place dinner tables right next to the half-wall next to the bar. Patrons put their drinks on top of it and talk. We were seated there and asked to be moved and were accommodated.

I went for Valentine’s Day. The ambiance was great and they gave us a rose and chocolate, which was cute. It is pricey and the menu is small, but overall it was a good experience!

Although the Food at Jewel is wonderful, our Valentine's Day experience there was not. We thought of the food when we made a repeat visit to Jewel, having had Valentine's dinner there last year. What we didn't remember was their disorganization which we recalled as we sat there waiting for our server to appear. We were there before 6 and the room was still half empty. Ironically we were seated at a table in a similar location as last time, evidently a service no man's land. Last year I never received the cocktail I had ordered. This time we did receive our drink order, but my husband, who cannot tolerate caffeine, ordered an herbal peppermint tea and received a caffeinated green tea with mint. Fortunately he noticed that before drinking it! This was after sitting there for over half an hour, not seeing a server, asking twice to no avail, and finally catching the eye of the hostess and telling her of our plight. When the server finally arrived she explained that because extra tables had been added to the room we wound up being between stations! We had seen several servers glance at us as we sat unattended, but no one had bothered to inquire if we had been taken care of. While we were waiting to order, waiters brought to our table, first the entrees of the table to our left and then the dessert of the table to our right! When we spoke to the manager he said the numbers in the kitchen were scrambled, also because of the extra tables. He apologised and our food came in a reasonable amount of time after we finally ordered, although a salad that was supposed to have roasted hazelnuts had pistachios instead, the rack of lamb was the smallest I have ever seen, and a sushi roll I ordered to take home was missing the cucumber that was a listed ingredient. Neither the nut substitution or the missing ingredient were mentioned to us when ordering. In addition to an apology do you think the manager should have comped us a drink or dessert? It didn't happen.

I wasn’t a fan of the changes to the lobster risotto for Valentine’s Day. The lobster lacked flavor and the corn in the rice didn’t fit.

$24 lunch was a good value. Great breads, good salad, decadent dessert and good coffee. Those who had the burgers loved them. I had the pork loin which came with a ring of skin and fat. I thoroughly enjoyed it but it may not appeal to all. Wait staff were friendly and helpful. Great overall experience and will be going back.
