Food was incredible, staff was knowledgable and super friendly.
We all wanted to see the space as it was in our friend's old business space approximately about 20 or more years ago. Six of us went to celebrate two birthdays. We all ordered the Omakase at the table and it was a reasonable price but felt it was just not Omakase as other restaurants offer. We were a little disappointed. The sashimi and the sushi were fresh except the giant clam. One of us is a vegan and was able to order stuff from the menu. Will most likely not go back.
Friendly sushi chef. Super fresh and tasty. On the pricey side, but you get what you pay for.
Took 1 hr 30 mins to get sushi from the time we sat down. Also Took 20 mins to get the bill when we were finished. Entire dinner broke close to 3 hrs.
Great atmosphere, cool vibes from this place.
Pros: sushi was awesome, rolls were Yuge!
Cons: We were one of the last reservations, but they stuck us next to one other couple, so it felt like we were on a double date. But they made up for it by letting us sit there after they had closed, felt like we had a private room.
Overall, good place for some pretty good sushi
The food was good and the service was amazing
Everything, including food and service, was top notch. The only issue is that the fixed bench seats against the wall are too low and uncomfortable. It appeared that the staff were well aware of the issue. The restaurant could easily fix the problem at a very small cost.
It’s our go-to. Excellent service and always a chic vibe.
An amazing restaurant. Probably the best sushi I have ever had. A true hidden gem. 10/10 would recommend for date night, friends get together, intimate dinner, etc.
The service is outstanding and decor is great! Good & intimate ambience. But the taste of the sushi was pretty ordinary for the prices . Our bill was $348 for 2 ( 1 sake & 2 beers, no appetizer, just omakase) for the taste of sushi that we could have gotten for $180 )
Classic Japanese food well done and presented, plus with some delicious additional tastes. Excellent and friendly service.
Great service and amazing sushi. This was my fifth time dining at Jewel Barko, still want to go back. They have the best omakase in town.
Birthday party!0 star!
Did not live up to Michelin star. Subpar appetizers and only decent sushi. Rice was falling apart.
Excellent service and high quality sushi. Little more expensive but worth it
Excellent food and service!
Really lovely dishes, elegant and soothing space and stellar service - the best service I've had in New York in recent memory!
I've been here before, and this time was not as good. The rice was falling apart of the sushi and the temperature on the raw fish wasn't right. Even with their friendly staff, sadly I didn't enjoy my meal this time.
Beautiful decor, wonderful food! Service exceptional as well. Great experience.
Best Omakase in NY
We had to wait 25 minutes before anyone served us and we saw other tables get food many times over, not even water. Then they bring miso soup an hour in and spilled all over us and the table. Didn’t even wipe the table after just used one of our napkins and didn’t bring us a new napkin. Had to ask twice. The food took an hour and 45 minutes to come. Pretty terrible and it wasn’t very good - very chewy pieces only 3 pieces of tuna in their $95 enhanced sashimi platter. They offered to take money off the bill and took off $10. Terrible
Went to Jewel Bako for my sushi-loving dads 70th bday. The only negative thing is can say is it’s a tight space and we had 2 large men with us. However, the negativity stops there. This place is pretty outstanding. Fish was on another level, fresh and different. Service and specifically our waiter was on point with his recommendations (both food and drink) and super nice and accomodating. Overall my family was super happy with this place. If you are a true sushi lover, this is a spot you must try.
Even though I requested a table near the sushi bar two months ago when I made my reservation, the hostess said she couldn’t seat me there, though there were two empty seats there for over an hour. We waited over ten minutes with our menus and a wobbly table before our server came over. Instead of explaining the menu (it was our first time) he asked if we were “ready” for what I don’t know because we didn’t have drinks. We asked him to explain the menu and when he did we decided on the omakase which is 125 each. The five course meal was fine, not filling enough for the price. I had one drink that night and was never asked again if I wanted another. The service is not good here and overall I felt ripped off. This place might’ve been good in the past and that’s where it ends.
Deliciously fresh sushi and great service. The Nigoei sake & specialty cocktails were yummy too. Will be back again
Amazing as always! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the fish is super fresh.
Creative food, warm service, cozy. Had Japanese sea urchin and it greatly exceeded my expectation. Had the mochi icecream with a lit candle as my birthday surprise. Overall highly enjoyable.
This was my 186th Michelin star and it was well worth a Michelin star. I had the chef’s omakase dinner and it was worth every penny.
Japanese sushi at its best! Never had a better sushi experience, mysticism all over the place. Fascinating, eat at the sushi bar and go for the chef’s omakase.
Overpriced and under impressive. Service is not aligned to Japanese standards. Fresh wasabi was nice.
Waited over 40 minutes for our sushi to arrive and was freezing by the door
Good quality sushi but avoid busy nights
Amazing food in a hectic setting, the staff was ok but not more.
One of the best and most innovative sushi restaurants in manhattan. Amazing wine list, great food, and always good service.
Ordered sushi and sashimi omakase and the fish was so fresh. The red snapper simply melts in your mouth. Amazing atmosphere! I will definitely be back.
take the bar table if you want chef choice
Trip to NYC
I have been going for years. And for years the staff has been expert. The food is art there.
In addition to the fantastic sushi, there is unbelievable tempura. The tempura comes from the attached sister restaurant. It's the best tempura I've had in NYC!
Overrated and overpriced. I am happy to pay these prices but for much better food.
It was the worst sushi restaurant in NYC, or maybe in the states.
