We enjoyed our dinner on the porch, as it was a beautiful night and our food was quite lovely as well! You don't often have crab cakes that are ALL crab! The seasoning of the food was particularly good!
Disappointing. Not a busy night but service was slow and not attentive. Waited several minutes before being recognized. Food was ok but not outstanding as it should be. Will have to think about whether I will return.
The food was exceptional and a wonderful value for the level of cuisine that you receive. We were just passing through or this would become a regular indulgence.
We went back this week, as we had a very good experience last time.
We had a delicious intimate dinner for two! 👍
We visit Vermont every summer and Jessica's has become one of our favorite go-to restaurants. The ambiance and decor are beautiful-- gentle and warm-- and the service is excellent! The food is beautifully prepared and presented--and especially delicious! We particularly loved the warm beet and spinach salad this year, as well as the corn and crab bisque. The wine selection (always of interest!) is excellent.
It's wonderful to feel so welcomed upon arrival. The Swift Inn, quietly located just off Rt.7 in Middlebury, is beautifully landscaped, and one can sit with a drink on the porch or back lawn, contemplating the flowers and greenery before heading in for a sumptuous meal.
Jessica's is truly a find!
Absolute fantastic evening and most enjoyed will be doing it again
Always great food and service! we always select a special of the evening.
This is a real treat. It was a hard decision to choose what to order. Everything looked an sounded terrific.
We ate at Jessica's at the Swift House for the first time last Saturday evening. We had a wonderful experience. Excellent food and service. Very relaxed and enjoyable. We all had different entrees--steak, fish, lamb and pork. Everyone was very happy with their dinner. We can't wait to go back!
We had such a nice meal at Jessica's this week. The food was delicious, the wine list fabulous, and the service excellent. The atmosphere is cozy and elegant, and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely.
The food here is constantly fabulous. Who would believe you can get great crab cakes and scallops in Vermont. Well believe me when I tell you, you can. We have yet to have anything that was anything less than delicious. Tom is very accommodating and you can be sure to have a great dinner at Jessica's
Our waitress was very nice and the food was just OK.
I've lived in the area since 1999, but wasn't even aware that Jessica's existed until I received a gift certificate for Christmas. I went with my husband and another couple. I loved the atmosphere; I felt like I was eating in the dining room of a grand, old house (which, I guess I was). They have an amazing wine list. The menu was small and not exciting or eclectic, but of the four of us, we each ordered something different, and everything was good. Pork was cooked a little too thoroughly, making it tough, but that's the only complaint. The service was professional and pleasant. We ordered wine and four courses each, so the bill was very high; however, I don't think their prices are higher than Fire & Ice, and the whole experience was better so there was value to it. Definitely a great special occasion gem.
Jessica's is a real find. The brussels sprout salad was light and very tasty. The venison steak was cooked perfectly and the chef changed things around to accommodate "no dairy" on several entrees. The wait staff was extremely efficient and friendly but never rushed or hovered. We liked it so much we had dinner there the next night, had different entrees but the same great service. I highly recommend Jessica's.
I loved the ambiance of the restaurant, very warm and romantic! The calamari with the soy sauce was a most delightful appetizer. The sauce was so good that we started to break apart our bread to dip in it. I had the Tuscan Chicken and my husband the Pork Chop dish, both were very tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The restaurant has a nice, cozy feel. The service is attentive, friendly, and efficient. The portions are not large for the price but we did bring home leftovers. I especially love the crab cakes. It's hard to find a good crab cake in Vermont and these are the best I've tasted outside of Maryland!
My family and I had an outstanding dinner! We were very pleased with the ambiance and the service. Whenever there is a special occasion to celebrate, our first choice is Jessica's.
Although the restaurant has open tables, they don't want to seat you if you are early because the back up is the kitchen. Keep that in mind if you arrive early and are hungry.
Living in Middlebury, we've had the pleasure of enjoying this restaurant for years, and I honestly think it gets better every time we go. I just can't decide which is more exceptional - the food or the service, because both are incredible .
Of all the restaurants available in this college town of Middlebury, the Swift House offers the best fine dining, lovely ambiance in the Library dining area and a wide menu choice of well presented delicious foods. Service is personal and having a pre dinner drink in their cozy bar is also recommended.
Sweet, romantic, and delcious! A great spot in Middlebury!
The food and service were very good. It was a quiet night out in a small and intimate restaurant
A wonderfully cozy ambience in the 'library'; delicious food, lovely presentation and friendly and efficient service. We really felt we were being served a special meal in a friend's home.
Couldn't rave about it more. Had dinner there 3 nights in a row during our stay at the Swift House Inn.. One meal more delicious than the next. Perfectly made cocktails and great wine list. Pleasant and prompt service. A gem !!!
I was there on a Wednesday evening with a friend. Service was attentive. The chopped Greek salad and the shaved Brussels sprouts salad were excellent. My friend had seared scallops that looked delicious and she said they were. My duck leg was chewy and the blueberry sauce was unbalanced. They were out of the wine we ordered and the one the host recommended as a substitution was run of the mill. We were disappointed that after requesting that they pace the meal after we placed our order -- we wanted a leisure dinner, which should have been fine given it was not a busy night in the restaurant -- the courses came quickly and our wine arrived after we were well into the entree. Finally, the lemon tart was pretty but not enjoyable. The crust had a refrigerated taste, the custard barely tasted of lemon; the garnish of fresh berries, however, were fresh and flavorful. I am writing this review because I know this restaurant is capable of providing a higher quality experience, and I want the management to know of the inconsistencies.
Not very many gluten free or vegetarian options. Server awesome very knowledgable of the menu. Would have loved to see her in more up to date uniform. The way the plates were shaped with regard to the silver the silver kept sliding off the plates and occasionally onto the floor clanging and creating a sound not conducive to a fine dining experience.
This was our second meal at Jessica's and it was definitely not our last. Great food, beautiful setting, a must try when in Middlebury.
The food was well prepared - the menu was very old school - preparations.
Lots of steak, lamb, duck, burgers - et. They had some nice pasta choices and a vegetarian entree that was well prepared. Everything was delicious.
The wine list is truly amazing, and service excellent.
We are locals in Middlebury and Jessica's continues to excel. We had the lamb shank and ribeye, wonderfully cooked, beautiful night, sat outside under the awning, beet salad was lovely, Waterbrook Cabernet. The service is attentive, the setting quiet, the food exceptional. We continue to come back. Thank you.
After a day of kayaking in Middlebury, we wanted a place that seemed casual enough for our quick change, but suited to our 9th anniversary. We sat on the porch overlooking the terrace to avoid the mosquitoes at dusk, but had the peaceful view of the lawn and gardens of the inn. The service was attentive and well-informed. Other than a small and profusely atoned bobble with the timing of our courses, everything was delicious, perfectly presented and delivered with grace. I had the vegetable stack for my main because it sounded--and was--so luscious and summery. My husband had the blueberry glazed duck. We stumbled upon Jessica's and I wish we had found it sooner.
Slightly quirky restaurant with extraordinary food and attentive servers ! From the golden beet salad with goat cheese to the perfectly done salmon to the decadent bread pudding --- it was a wonderful experience ! Although everyone in Middlebury told us that you had to be attired in "dressy" clothing --- this is not at all the case ..... As we sat next to a group dressed entirely in jeans and sweatshirts . Overall it was a wonderful experience !!!
good food good wine etc...
I warmly recommended it...
Went here with my wife while we were staying at the inn. Food was excellent. Wine list is well curated and very reasonably priced. Service was good but slow. It appeared that they were understaffed. Would definitely go back and would recommend it.
My wife's birthday was on August 4th which was a Tuesday.most of the resterants were closed that we usually went to.we opted to wait until Wednesday and my wife decided to try Jessica's,and we're very happy we did.everything was wonderful,Jessica's is now our favorite!
We had a wonderful dinner, I had a nice house salad and fabulous pork chop while my husband loved his Greek salad and lamb shank. We both couldn't resist dessert which is unusual, he had a blueberry cobbler, I had a bite it was warm and heavenly; I had the flourless chocolate cake which was perfect. Very relaxing sitting outside, no rush, it's Vermont.
The Swift Inn is a beautiful place, and Jessica's (named, I believe, after the last Swift to live in what was once the family estate) is set in a few gorgeous rooms. The service and food were spectacular. The local ingredients creatively prepared, and the results were greatly enjoyed by the five people in our group. I can personally recommend the golden beet salad and the Tuscan chicken. You can get great food at several places in the area, but Jessica's stands out for its historic and beautiful setting. This is the place for your special dinner in Middlebury.
Excellent food, creative dishes, warm staff!
Wonderful selection - it was hard to choose. We're going back!
We came after our friend's opera performance...this is the best food in Middlebury I believe, and the setting is really fun - a historic home/hotel. The menu was pretty good--farm to table kind of stuff--but I think they were out of a few things, and some of the dishes took a long time to come out, but overall everything was really good.
The food and the service are always great. Tom, the manager, and Michelle, the owner always make you feel welcome.
I had heard so many of my colleagues talk about the Swift House. They had nothing but great things to say. Everything from my martini to my main course and dessert was excellent! I will be returning on my next visit.
