Jessica's at Swift House
Daily 7:30 am–9:30 am
Wed–Sun 5:30 pm–9:00 pm
Introduced a friend to this gem; it won a place in their heart too.
We met friends for dinner. Had an excellent meal. If I had to find something wrong, I would say that having a sommelier is a bit pretentious for an otherwise fairly casual restaurant!
Excellent food and service with beautiful environment. Friendly and warm greeting. Definitely recommend.
The food here is terrific--better and more imaginative than one might expect from the old-school decor. My partner's duck was outstanding, with a wonderful rice/black bean pilaf that sounds odd but turned out to be delicious. I had the burger, and it was great as well--the blue cheese and onion rings on it turned out to be great accompaniments rather than lamentable excess. The duck-fat fries are not be missed. The vibe of the place is genteel and old-school (in a good way--very quiet) but the food is thoughtful and at times surprising. The place to go in Middlebury!
Food was excellent after I sent my duck back for additional cooking. My wife's chicken could have gone another 5 minutes, as well. Don't know what it is with a lot of high end restaurants, but duck does not taste good rare - it is a fatty meat that needs thorough cooking in my opinion - especially the outer fat. The cherry reduction was wonderful, however.
Very attractive ambiance and excellent food served well and with professional and friendly service. One of the best between Brandon & Burlington
Food is always consistently great and the service is wonderful. Great place for a special night out.
Mother’s Day dinner was superb. The venue is well maintained, rural, and quaint. The menu minimal and modern was complimented by a great wine list and helpful sommelier.
We had a lovely birthday celebration with many delicious options for desserts. All were delighted with their app & entree choices and we agreed we will return! Service was exceptional and our meal was timed perfectly with charm & grace!
First time dining at Jessica's and was a very pleasant experience. Worth the time to arrive early and have a cocktail in the bar or living room. The dining room was cozy, wine and beer were good and the food was delicious. The setting for the inn is beautiful and the grounds immaculately maintained. Will be back.
Good as usual.
Four of us met here for dinner prior to attending activities at Middlebury College. The food was very good and the service was fantastic. I did feel the meal was a little pricey, but given the small venue and quality of ingredients, it may be justified. The mushroom soup and Brussel kale (kale sprouts), were amazing.
We have enjoyed many good meals at Jessica’s. Something different this time is that they have noted gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan on the menu. Since I am gluten and dairy free this was a very welcome change. There were at least three appetizer that were gluten and dairy free and at least two entrees that were g-free, dairy free without any changes. A couple could have been served that way by substituting for mashed potatoes. Excellent if you have gluten and/or dairy constraints.
Live nearby and finally decided to visit Jessica's for a Birthday Event. Can't believe that we waited so long to dine there. The food is really good, and all the bases are covered. Service was good as well. We'll definitely return and let others know how much we enjoyed our Birthday celebration.
Enjoy eating in quiet dining area.... changing menu from time to time is always appreciated.... wait staff is excellent!
Not on your list above, but what really impressed us was the list of local and Vermont growers and food/drink providers.
Romantic Valentine dinner enjoyed by us on return stay at our favorite B&B enroute to ski trip
Jessica's at The Swift House is a wonderful place. From the warm greeting you get from Jacqueline to the lively conversation with Tommy at the bar to the impeccable and responsive service from the waitstaff they simply do it perfectly!
This is a warm and welcoming restaurant with a nice selection of food and wines. I always go for the crabcakes and the brussels sprouts salad is delicious!
Our group of 4 had a wonderfully memorable meal at Jessica’s after attending a show at the Town Hall Theater. The wine selection was excellent and the salmon entree is amongst the best that I have ever had. And the chocolate flourless torte was a divine finish to a fabulous meal.
What a wonderful place! The food was excellent, the service personal and helpful, and the ambiance quiet lovely. I had the scallops special, and it was outstanding! My husband's pork chop, and my son's salmon were also very good, as were the appetizers, salads, and desserts. We will be back!
Jessica's is always our first choice for meals in Middlebury. We had our son's 21st birthday there and this weekend was my birthday (won't say which one) with another son and friend.
Our favorite restaurant in Vermont. Perfect for special occasions.
Always a pleasant experience.
Best restaurant in Middlebury these days! The quality of the food is consistently excellent. Jessica's is gem of a place.
We were celebrating our anniversary and staying at the Swift House Inn. The meal we had was incredible, our server wonderful, and the food outstanding! We will definitely be back again when we visit Vermont. Thank you for helping make our anniversary special!
Always great food and great service. Been many times for dinner and never disapointed
We have been having dinner here for the last 8 years. As always, the bar was excellent, the menu eclectic, the service impeccable, the food delicious with ample servings, the ambiance warm, romantic and cozy. This is without a doubt our favorite restaurant in Vermont.
We took my Dad here for his 89th birthday. We were seated in the library at a perfect table by the fire. The manager/sommelier is wonderful and greeted us warmly. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful (and patient with dad). All of our entrees were excellent: Duck Two Ways, halibut, salmon and a ribeye steak for dad. The pate appetizer was WOW, with mustard and a raspberry jam sauce. The restaurant was packed by the time we left, but the noise levels were well controlled by the layout of the different rooms. We've been coming back here at least annually and always have a magnificent meal! Thank you!
My wife and I took our Middlebury College sophomore out to dinner at the Jessica Swift House recently. We were very pleased with our overall experience. The food was wonderful, as was the ambiance. Davi, the Sommelier, was very knowledgeable, approachable and helpful. He assisted in making our evening one to remember.
Tasty, locally sourced food prepared very well in a relaxing, comfortable environment. Service is top-notch, friendly and unobtrusive.
You simply must have the duck fat fries. I had the Swift house burger and fries. It was heaven.
My husband had the venison and it too was wonderful. At least that’s what he told me since he wouldn’t let me have any. And then he started in on my fries.
Quiet place and the sommelier was quick with suggestions and told me it was perfectly okay to drink white wine with my burger. Love him!
Everything was fabulous! The meals were absolute perfection! Service was impeccable. A wonderful dining experience.
Great food, service, and bar! We celebrated a birthday, and enjoyed a lovely, perfectly-paced meal.
We had a delicious meal at Jessica's. The service was warm and friendly.
It was truly a special night out for us.
Each dish was delicious and flavored with originality. Service was warm and friendly.
Great spot for a nice meal!
My husband and I were looking for something different locally since it was our 38th anniversary. Jessica’s was the perfect choice for a quiet romantic meal with delicious food, great service, a nice wine selection and an old Inn atmosphere. Just what we were looking for to make our evening special and not just another night out. To top it off the prices were reasonable. We look forward to returning.
We were treating our Middlebury grandsons - we all throughly enjoyed our dinners and atmosphere
For special occasions, you can't beat Jessicas. Staff is wonderful (especially Tom, wine expert extraordinaire, and Jodi, a flawless wait staffer. Then there is the food--always beautifully prepared and presented. Atmosphere charming New England Inn at its best.
Very nice dinner in a quiet Select Register inn in Vermont. Food was well presented and tasty - a very good clam chowder starter and the rice pilaf side dish with the main courses were standouts. I gave fewer stars for ambiance as the restaurant is in the same area as the inn breakfast area and lacked the character a good dining room should have.
