Jean-Robert's Table Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I are new to Cincinnati and we happened upon this place for our valentine's lunch. It was the best French cuisine we have ever had! Not only was the food great we were able to have a lovely conversation and grueling enjoyed our experience and will be back in sure of it.
My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday a year ago and returned for our 2 year anniversary. Just like the first time we came, Jean Robert did not disappoint. The balance of flavor in every dish served here is truly impeccable. The service was also great, Jeff was our waiter and he was both attentive and entertaining! We both recommend this restaurant strongly, and look forward to returning again!
Jean Robert's is an intimate restaurant that we like for its small size and charming ambiance. In general the food is very good and my most recent visit was largely enjoyable. But two aspects of the evening were not up to my expectations. First, although I don't like to feel rushed while dining there is a line between leisurely service and slow service, and this time the service strayed over that line consistently. The amount of time that elapsed between each stage of the meal from getting drinks, to giving our orders, to receiving the first course, to receiving the second course, and finally receiving the dessert was simply too long. Second, I ordered the beef tenderloin and it simply was not up to my expectations. I ordered medium rare and it was cooked closer to medium and was not flavorful, plus the sauce seemed a bit acidic to me. However, the people I was dining with all enjoyed their food, so it wasn't all bad.
This is one of our favorites. The sauces are superb and everything is usually prepared with care and attention. This time, the Alaskan char (a special) was described as being in sort of a bouillabaise but the fresh fennel didn't do much for this fish and it really was not a soupy like dish, but just a piece of delicate, a bit undercooked char topped with fennel. It needed a richer sauce and a bit more cooking time. My partner's filet was well prepared in a red wine sauce, but the beef itself was lacking flavor. Because we had two different wines and two glasses of wine each plus an appetizer of foie gras which was also lacking, our bill was substantial . I usually leave JR well satisfied but unfortunately not this time.
I took my wife for a nice dinner to this place. We have tried pretty much every good restaurant in Cincinnati and wanted something different. We both were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant feels cozy and the food is top notch. The Foie Gras is a great appetizer to share and out of this world. The portions are not huge but just about right. The waiter knew his trade and was a great help explaining and choosing the best option. We also ordered a bottle of Rose which was delicious and not overprized. I will definitely take my wife to this restaurant again. I can highly recommend it!
I ordered two glasses of wine (different types) and they were both outstanding for the price. However, the fish I ordered, which was the daily special, was quite overcooked. Our main server was rote and somewhat unpleasant, and when it came time to pour sauces over our entrees he slopped them on so haphazardly I checked my shirt for splash stains. The bread was exceptional.
Most disappointed experience. We have our nephew visiting from St.Luois. First I ordered foie gras for appetizer. The inside was cold like it just came out of the refrigerator. I sent it back. Came back , still is chilled on the inside. My main course was cod. Not much of taste or flavor bland. The worst came last. Our server Jim, either has hearing problem or saw that I have and Asian face. I ordered chocolate mouse, and just could not understand. My nephew and my husband tried to help, he still could not understand. My nephew finally had to actually point it out on the menu. We had not been to Robert’s Restaurant awhile. Used to love it. It is no longer the same caliber of restaurant we used to know. Terrible to have paid such high price for a meal, and to have foie gras came out ice cold and a waiter that could understand what the customer wanted to order, until you actually have to point it out on the printed menu!
My husband and I decided to start our ‘stay-cation’ with dinner at Jean-Robert’s Table. We both had the December special, a 5 course lobster and Champagne delight. Each course was well prepared, portions were just right in size given the richness of the menu. The lobster bisque was especially delicious. The lobster Bernaise on the filet was unusual and very tasty.
Went here for a holiday business lunch for my three coworkers and myself. When we were seated, a server came to our table with bottles of sparkling and tap water and proceeded to offer us either one. We all decided on sparkling and our servers proceeded to refill our glasses throughout our entire lunch- even unnecessarily topping them off. When we got the bill we realized we had been charged $24 for three bottles of sparkling water and no one even bothered to inform us of this. In addition, my meal was fairly subpar. I ordered the tarte fine, which tasted like a gross mishmash of duck confit and a wedge of lettuce plopped on top with blue cheese dressing and some other mess of ingredients on the side. Although my dish was disappointing, my coworkers seemed like their dishes were somewhat decent.
