Jean Claude 2 Ratings and Reviews
Good reliable food, and pleasant service. The only complaint is that the menu (with the exception of perhaps the soup) hasn't changed since the day they opened. We've been going there that long and we would love to see all updated menu. That being said, we always know we will enjoy well prepared food.
We had the lamb special of the day and the steak au poivre.
The lamb was very nice, good of taste and combinations.
The steak was black on one side, the waiter said it was from the pepper,
we don't think so. It was probable because they don't clean the grill.
The taste of the meat was good.
We don't think customers should be left with a story.
It's not a neighbourhood gem, 2 courses will be more expensive than the less than 30 euro
which is on open table.
Jean Claude II is a jewel of a bistro -- tiny, elegant, non-pretenscious and most important, great food and superb service. We began with a green salad -- fresh and with an outstanding dressing, accompanied with two small pieces of baguette with a goat cheese spread. Far superior to more average croutons and cheese in the salad. The Moules Frites were delicious in an absolutely heavenly broth -- lots of bread for dipping and well prepared frites. Worthy of note -- all of the mussels were appropriately steamed open -- an unusual find. The others at the table had steak frites and were as pleased as I. Dessert of mousse au chocolat and bread pudding put a perfect final to the meal. Highly recomended!
Delightfully surprised to go here for a quiet dinner with my elderly mother this week. Having passed this place dozens of times, I always thought it would be more neighborhood brasserie than 5-star dining. I was wrong. The food was exquisitely plated and tasted divine. Ambiance was festive and cheery. Clearly everyone else in the neighborhood knows what I just discovered about this little red gem on Second Ave.
A very good restaurant during the week, but overwhelmed when crowded on weekends. Service was slow, spotty and impersonal. Kitchen was obviously slow. One entree came out ok, but the pork loin was dry and leathery, quite overcooked. Worth one more try on a slow night but avoid otherwise.
Friendly and nice service. Very fair prices. The wine was good as well. Ordered the beet salad with endive. That was underwhelming and tasteless and not worth it. Very disappointing. Wife had the mussels and frites, which she said was good but not as tasty as our regular place. The roast chicken was way too salty for me and too dry. The basil mashed potatoes were tasty but over whipped into a starchy mess. The chicken was supposed to come with mushrooms and a nice sauce. There was basically no sauce and two tiny slivers of mushrooms. Pretty room and quiet so you can have a conversation. But it was not a dining experience I would try again.
Went there on a Wednesday to celebrate our anniversary and was not disappointed.
The wait staff are genuinely nice to you and check back often. Had the steak which was generous and delicious. And the onion soup was great. Nice wine list and bottles are very reasonable. Will definitely make this a regular stop since we are in the neighborhood. Definitely a nice dining option if you are looking for French.
This is the first time we have been to this new re-located location, Went to the Village location many times over the years and always a good reasonable choice. Jean Claude II is still very good on all fronts. If there was one minor disappointment I would say they discontinued the prix-fixe menu. Excellent and attentive service.
Went for Mothers Day. Very nice restaurant. Atmosphere perfect -- even the music was perfect for the spot and time of day (which is a surprisingly hard thing to get right for some places). Service was GREAT. All staff highly attentive. The food was really just ok. That said - we all had brunch/b'fast. The dinner options are probably much better. (We live close and would def go back and try dinner based on the atmosphere and service).
