Jean Claude 2
Cozy, friendly, neighborhood bistro with reliably great food and excellent service.
Everything is good, but you must get the roasted chicken. Very good service, very accommodating. Moderately and reasonably priced, so of good value. And importantly, fairly low noise level, especially compared to most restaurants, so easy to converse without screaming and waking up the next day with a sore throat. Highly recommended.
Four relatives enjoyed unrushed dinner in reasonably quiet environment. All very satisfied with food. Two steaks, one muscles and one fish.
Lovely dinner and service!
We loved the food and we would go again. Mussels and steak au pauvre were especially good.
It’s time to change the menu!
Everything was wonderful
Would highly recommend and will go back
We went for lunch and were in a bit of a hurry to get crosstown to the ballet. My friend ordered the Croque Monsieur and I had the steak sandwich. When I had been there for dinner previously I was very impressed with both the food and the service, but this time not so much. The steak sandwich was dry and would have been better without the cheese, which overwhelmed the flavor of the beef. The Croque did not meet my friend's standards for some reason (but she has unusually high standards). The waiter snatched the bread and butter off the table, although we had not requested they be removed. The chocolate mousse, however, was REALLY GOOD! The plates are too big for the tiny tables so it is a little awkward to juggle the setting around, but that's a minor thing. I will go again, my first meal there was excellent: salmon and spinach and crème brulee - perfectly cooked and presented.
Excellent experience.. we were at Jean claude for mother’s day and as soon as we entered i knew it will be a nice choice because of the warm welcome.Server was very friendly and helpful and the best part of all is how amazing was the food. I ll definitely go back.
We really enjoyed our diner .we were a party of four and tried different appetizers and entrees was really surprise how good the food was good for the prices.
Service was very nice and friendly
Definetly going back.
Terrible service+mediocre food+price gouging +attempted overcharge on bill = STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND.
There are a number of charming restaurants in the neighborhood that offer significantly better food, excellent service, and honest prices. I recommend those long before ever considering another visit to Jean Claude 2.
Had the beetroot and endive salad, light and delicious, and the moules frites wonderful and briny.
Delicious mussels & pomme frites as well as nice wine choices. Tartare is delicious, but always them ask for the specials of the day! We love their energy and enjoy this always busy, French bistro on the UES
Food was fresh and very tasty. Limited choices and specials but that makes sense because everything was prepared after we ordered and not ready in advance. House wine was also quite good. Would gladly return.
Great service, great food and environment. Would definitely go back!
Having had a pleasant dinner here a few weeks ago, this lunch experience was disappointing. My salmon and the one ordered by my friend were both dry, overcooked. The sauce, however, was very good. One friend sent back his order of mussels, which he described as having an "off-taste". The mussels were small and not at all plump. The waiter protested that two customers who had just left had said the mussels were "delicious", and he wanted to show us their bills to prove that they had been there!
Also, sad to say, the bill that arrived was confusing, and may have been incorrect to some extent. Our party of four realized this upon comparing our receipts.
A friend at the next table mentioned that her cheese omelette had arrived, and they had "forgotten to put the cheese in".
This did seem to be an off day for the restaurant, which was not busy at this lunch hour. Pretty bad experience.
Service and food was very slow to arrive. Quality was mediocre. Will not return.
Superb Salmon and an authentic and properly
Prepared steak au poive. Very comfortable neighborhood restaurant
We went to Jean Clause 2 for the first time - we loved it. Delicious dinner, nice menu, wonderful staff, pleasant ambiance. We expect to become regular diners!
The food is excellent and the staff very attentive
Just what a neighborhood restaurant should be — friendly, not noisy, excellent food, reasonable cost. They stick to a modest menu of classic dishes, on each of which they put an intelligent spin. Short smart wine list. Has a strong, loyal local following, for good reason. It’s our go-to restaurant when friends visit.
Charming, French, neighborhood bistro. Love the ambiance. Delicious food!
Really liked the meal, the service, the space! Would go again
They honor reservations which gets a star. Add good food and it is a go to.
I love love love Jean-Claude too it’s been my third time there and they been consistently delicious and the service is great always enjoy the ambience it’s a cozy little place
Terrific food. Friendly service. A little noisy.
Our most memorable meal in NYC! Romantic and delicious, from the onion soup to the steak au poivre to the chocolate mousse. And we had fun speaking French with our waiter. Merci!
Having dined at this neighborhood bistro numerous times since its opening some years back, I recommended it to a couple of friends from the West Village, where we usually get together. We all enjoyed a delicious "legume" French sandwich/salad with portobello mushroom and other fresh vegetables, prepared and served with feta and a green salad. When I requested a dressing, I was able to get both balsamic vinegar and olive oil to dress my vegetables. As we we all had appointments after lunch, we did not order wine, which I have enjoyed at this bistro many times with my husband, my brother, and others. I look forward one day to hosting my French-American cousins here when they visit New York....
A great meal and a great time like usual. It is pretty amazing how good the chicken is - in both quality and taste of preparation. And best part: they will substitute frites for the potatoes it usually comes with! The only problem we encountered is that we went on a Saturday night. Dining there during the week, we can usually sit as long as we want - even until they start turning off the lights. But on this Saturday evening, they were encouraging us - in not necessarily the nicest terms - that they needed the table. The need for the table was understandable, though they could have been a bit more diplomatic. The restaurant was indeed full, and while I wouldn’t say it was quiet, the noise level was very tolerable, not interfering at all with conversation. We’ll definitely be back - but only during the week!
Had a great dinner date here the other night. The restaurant looks unassuming from the outside, but don't be fooled. And after reading the reviews, I was a little concerned about the steak being overcooked, as well as the service. But both my bf and I ordered steak frites, medium, and it was cooked perfectly. Service was good. No complaints. The wine was good and well priced for a Manhattan restaurant; Cotê du Rhone. Dessert was also great. Bread pudding and creme bruleè were delicious. Just know that it's a small restaurant and seating is tight. Overall, pleasantly surprised. Perfect little bistro.
We will return.
Cozy restaurant with attentive service. The menu was classic bistrot fare. Well made and delicious. Can't wait to return.
delicious food and extremely attentive and friendly staff
Excellent French food. Excellent service.
A wise choice for a group meal, timed for late lunch.
Amazing steak frites, and onglet with potatoes au gratin. Cannot wait to return.
Food and service are consistently good. Never disappoints. A great neighborhood restaurant!
Great neighborhood jem, small place with a lot of charm.
Fantastic food, excellent service. 4 of us each ordered different means and they were all perfect!
