Jay's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
This was very close to being a truly remarkable, unforgettable experience everything was exceptional but the through the door and check-in experience. There was no greeting, once someone did after confirming the reservation there was a cold flat “We’ll be with you in about 5 minutes when your table is ready” this would have been a great opportunity to offer to take our coats to the coat check anything but leaving us standing there feeling unwanted... at the end of the night as we were recounting a wonderful night it was that first 5 minutes that soured it. The food, drinks, waiter’s service, etc. were nearing perfection as dining experiences go.
Very accommodating with the time constraints we had. Waiter was great but should be trained to know wines better. Food was excellent. Lobster bisque was absolutely delicious. Beautiful plate presentation. Really impressed owner is involved and on site. Makes you know they really care about the establishment.
Tonight the food was great - I had a perfectly cooked-to-order salmon with an excellent sauce. My wife had the shrimp carbanara - which was seasoned well and balanced. The service was a little slow, but we used the time to talk in our booth. We also had the lobster gnocchi which i would get without the corn - so good, i would've ordered a couple as a entree. Bread was good and we love whipped butter. We went to another restaurant for dessert, but wish we would've stayed.
The service staff needs polish. Small things were overlooked- being served first as the female at the table, bringing out bread with an explanation of the accoutrement being served alongside, asking if we have questions about the menu or wine options- but these small things added up to making this a mediocre dining experience. We were largely ignored and the server seemed somewhat lax in his approach to us. Jay's is purported to be one of the nicest restaurants in Fort Collins, but they missed that mark tonight.
Dining at Jay's Bistro is an all around great experience in an understated elegant atmosphere. The friendly wait staff is attentive but not overbearing. The food was so delicious and beautifully presented. We kept saying "Wow, this is amazing" with every bite from the appetizer to the out- of-this world chocolate ravioli dessert. You don't have to go to Denver for a top notch restaurant...FoCo has one right here!
We decided to give Jays another try after being
disappointed a few months after they re opened.
Not a good value. It used to be a special occasion restaurant for us but no more. Way overpriced for what you get. I ordered a lemon drop and the first one was great the second one tasted like they used bottled real lemon. I did not complain because we were celebrating our nieces engagement and did not want to embarrass her. We had been going to Jays since they were a little restaurant on college years and years ago. Tooo bad.
We had a salad and a cup of soup for appetizers... they Came in a reasonable time... then proceeded to wait 1 hr and 10 minutes for our entrees WITHOUT EXPLAINTION!!!!! Most horrible service ever! Food was on once delivered but could not believe such bad service! Will NEVER go again
Really seems to have gone downhill since the last time I was there, a few years ago. The wait for our food between salad and main course was over an hour. And when it did come out, it wasn't very good. The scallops didn't seem fresh, the pasta was undercooked and gooey, and the noodles weren't much to write home about in the first place. Our server seemed overworked, as well. Guy shouldn't be bussing and setting his own tables at a place like that. He didn't have the time to properly take care of his guests.
Honestly I wouldn't recommend it. Way too pricey for poorly cooked seafood with maddeningly slow service.
nice wine selection, nice appetizers but the service for our entre was very, very slow (45 minute way). We sat down at our table at 6:40 and didn't get our entre until 7:50. We had tickets to a play at CSU @ 8 pm, so we wolfed down a bit of our entre and threw everything else into a to-go bag. A bit of our fault I guess for not letting know about our schedule but I didn't think it was possible to spend over an hour to wait for an entre to be prepared and delivered to our table!
Lovely atmosphere, warm and inviting. Restaurant has an unusual layout, there are many different spaces, and it feels intimate. On a Friday night it was on the quieter side until 8, then new musicians arrived and it got (too) loud to talk during dinner. Excellent cocktail--with basil in it. Steamed mussels were tasty and garlic-y. The Other Wedge was only ok, didn't have enough of the special ingredients on it. Both entrees were only ok, wouldn't order again. The special swordfish came with gnocchi that was overcooked until chewy. The spinach fettuccini with scallops was uninspired. However for dessert the flourless chocolate cake was decadent.
I always like the atmosphere here with the live music. Our waiter was either new or just distracted. Didn't let us know what they were out of until we ordered. My son wanted the special ~ but there were out of it so he ordered something else ~ and they were out of that, and then he tried one more time and oh yeah... out of that too.... oy. I think two of our dishes sat for quite sometime waiting for the other two. So two were hot and two were cold. Cocktails were amazing though.
This restaurant was a real find, we absolutely loved it! The chef is a genius and it was truly one of the best meals I have ever had! I ordered the special of haddock with the most amazing sauce, a veggie side of julienned beets, spinach and almonds, a white chocolate sweet potato purée, wonderful bread with three delish butters, fabulous lobster bisque and a flourless chocolate torte with ganache, yummy! Very happy diner! It was worth the trip from Aurora!
Unfortunately we were seated in a room that was preparing for a banquet. Over all it was good except our food came out very slow. Apparently they were overwhelmed and their staff was not prepared.
Could have been better. Will try again when they’re not so busy.
