Jay's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Dining at Jay's Bistro is an all around great experience in an understated elegant atmosphere. The friendly wait staff is attentive but not overbearing. The food was so delicious and beautifully presented. We kept saying "Wow, this is amazing" with every bite from the appetizer to the out- of-this world chocolate ravioli dessert. You don't have to go to Denver for a top notch restaurant...FoCo has one right here!
We decided to give Jays another try after being
disappointed a few months after they re opened.
Not a good value. It used to be a special occasion restaurant for us but no more. Way overpriced for what you get. I ordered a lemon drop and the first one was great the second one tasted like they used bottled real lemon. I did not complain because we were celebrating our nieces engagement and did not want to embarrass her. We had been going to Jays since they were a little restaurant on college years and years ago. Tooo bad.
We had a salad and a cup of soup for appetizers... they Came in a reasonable time... then proceeded to wait 1 hr and 10 minutes for our entrees WITHOUT EXPLAINTION!!!!! Most horrible service ever! Food was on once delivered but could not believe such bad service! Will NEVER go again
Really seems to have gone downhill since the last time I was there, a few years ago. The wait for our food between salad and main course was over an hour. And when it did come out, it wasn't very good. The scallops didn't seem fresh, the pasta was undercooked and gooey, and the noodles weren't much to write home about in the first place. Our server seemed overworked, as well. Guy shouldn't be bussing and setting his own tables at a place like that. He didn't have the time to properly take care of his guests.
Honestly I wouldn't recommend it. Way too pricey for poorly cooked seafood with maddeningly slow service.
nice wine selection, nice appetizers but the service for our entre was very, very slow (45 minute way). We sat down at our table at 6:40 and didn't get our entre until 7:50. We had tickets to a play at CSU @ 8 pm, so we wolfed down a bit of our entre and threw everything else into a to-go bag. A bit of our fault I guess for not letting know about our schedule but I didn't think it was possible to spend over an hour to wait for an entre to be prepared and delivered to our table!
Lovely atmosphere, warm and inviting. Restaurant has an unusual layout, there are many different spaces, and it feels intimate. On a Friday night it was on the quieter side until 8, then new musicians arrived and it got (too) loud to talk during dinner. Excellent cocktail--with basil in it. Steamed mussels were tasty and garlic-y. The Other Wedge was only ok, didn't have enough of the special ingredients on it. Both entrees were only ok, wouldn't order again. The special swordfish came with gnocchi that was overcooked until chewy. The spinach fettuccini with scallops was uninspired. However for dessert the flourless chocolate cake was decadent.
I always like the atmosphere here with the live music. Our waiter was either new or just distracted. Didn't let us know what they were out of until we ordered. My son wanted the special ~ but there were out of it so he ordered something else ~ and they were out of that, and then he tried one more time and oh yeah... out of that too.... oy. I think two of our dishes sat for quite sometime waiting for the other two. So two were hot and two were cold. Cocktails were amazing though.
This restaurant was a real find, we absolutely loved it! The chef is a genius and it was truly one of the best meals I have ever had! I ordered the special of haddock with the most amazing sauce, a veggie side of julienned beets, spinach and almonds, a white chocolate sweet potato purée, wonderful bread with three delish butters, fabulous lobster bisque and a flourless chocolate torte with ganache, yummy! Very happy diner! It was worth the trip from Aurora!
Unfortunately we were seated in a room that was preparing for a banquet. Over all it was good except our food came out very slow. Apparently they were overwhelmed and their staff was not prepared.
Could have been better. Will try again when they’re not so busy.
The noise level was so loud that we had to lean into each other in order to hear one another. The food was adequate, but poor value overall. My wife's pasta lacked taste and was rather disappointing. We have been going to Jay's Bistro to celebrate special events for the past four years. When reserving our table I made mention of my wife's birthday, but Jay's failed to mention it and made no attempt to recognize the big day. Jay's needs to revise their menu....it has been the same since the place changed ownership and I have to say that the new ownership is failing miserably on trying to provide fine dining. I doubt we will be going back to Jay's any time soon. Very, very disappointing. The highlight of the evening was our waitress who did her best to make a bad situation tolerable.
Second disappointing meal. won't return. lobster in soup and salad tasted pretty tired-didn't get ill, but surely wasn't fresh. food runs towards over richness-guess that is what most want on a dinner out. My taste has changed and this won't work for me. Pretty pricey for what you get too.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Jay's Bistro. They rolled out the red carpet for us...from the complimentary champagne to the decorated table, we felt taken care of and appreciated. The food was phenomenal on a Tuesday night!!! We had the gnocchi, the bisque, the lamb chops, the boillebaise, and the creme brulee...along with a couple glasses of wine. We never go back to "expensive," restaurants (just because there are so many places to try). However, we intend on frequenting JBs at least a few times more! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
We love the place, it's very cozy and the service was impeccable. This time though, the food was not as good as usual, the sole, shrimp, lamb chops and pork chops were excellent, but the risotto, potatoes and asparagus weren't very good. We will definitely go back though.
As always, this place has an excellent menu, a chef who knows that a superb meal begins with soup choices that make you stop and think, menu choices which are so mouth-watering in description alone that you have to flip a coin, and that presentation is more than just a pretty flower on the plate. It is always a hit for business dinners regardless of whether the client is local, from across the country, or across an ocean. If you haven't been yet, you are either new or lacking a quality palette. LOL!
Decided to make this anniversary one of trying new things. I used the opportunity as my first use of OpenTable, the first time I have tried scallops, and the first time eating at Jay's that was not part of a wedding related gathering. I tried the Diver Scallops and my wife had the Pesto Pasta with Scallops. We had the Lobster Mac & Cheese for an appetizer and took the waiter's recommendations on wine. There was also a Rosemary/Basil butter for the bread that was very good. It was all enjoyable. The live music was at times more of a distraction than it was entertainment or ambiance as the neediness of jazz musicians is a tad tedious at times (not every solo is applause worthy). We'll definitely return for special occasions.
We had a wonderful dining experience after moving inside. We had originally started outside but the music was too loud and our waiter outside was not all that attentive. The staff inside was phenomenal as usual. The food is outstanding and we all very much enjoyed everything we got. Definitely one of our favorite places!
