The service was very good. Michael knew the menu and specials as well as the wine list. The food was not as good as it has been historically. For example, the seafood Caesar salad used to come with a crab claw on it, there were just a few bits of crab on top. Two of us had the mixed grill and the venison was a bit over cooked. The cheese and meat tray was very good. There are some better values in Fort Collins for better food. I hope the new owners can step it up a bit.
Great evening, Delicious food and great service
Great service and menu selections. Calamari starter is very good. The Reuben is delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their entrees. Convenient location with close proximity parking. A top Fort Collins choice for sure.
Easter brunch
We went for Easter brunch, the food was mediocre for the prices and they pushed the tables so close together that our chairs were being bumped into constantly. I love Jays for dinner but this brunch was pretty disappointing overall, especially for what they charge.
We enjoyed our evening although our waiter never smiled once and lacked personality. The food was good and promptly served. The ambience was just what I was looking for - nice and quiet. I do think the restaurant needs a face lift as the decor is looking rather dated and tired.
A lovely evening - amazing food, good service. Entertainment was exquisite. Thank you!
Great ambiance and service. One meal was mediocre and the other fabulous. Love the presentation of the food. A bit pricey for what you get.
We love Jay’s, in my opinion they make the best martinis and beef filet in Northern Colorado! Always outstanding service there. Truly our favorite restaurant
Consistently outstanding! The service, food, and ambiance are always outstanding! Definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Northern Colorado.
My second time eating there. Its nw my favorite place to go take my wife.
First time. If I had any complaint, and I don't, it would be the limited parking in the area. Food, service & atmosphere were all excellent. We'll definitely be returning.
The calamari had a fairly strong fishy taste so i suspect it was frozen or old not fresh. The filet was good but the portion of the truffle mashed and creamed spinach were anorexic. It was about 3 tablespoons of each side.
We came for dinner after my fiance proposed and it was a wonderful choice! We were from out of town so neither of us knew what to expect but we were so pleasantly surprised. Our server was thoughtful and attentive and the food was incredible! I highly recommend Jay's Bistro!
the service at Jay's was outstanding right from the greeting when we walked in. Excellent cocktails, dinner and atmosphere.
We've eaten at Jay's many times. The food is always good as is the music. The service this time was not great but is usually is. Waiter did not check on us once, sad because my appetizer was cold. We like sitting in the main room, did not request it with our reservation so had it sit in side dining room. While very nice, just not our favorite. Suggestion, if you want that main room, make the request. Enjoy.
Just underwhelmed. We visited first 6 years ago and left feeling the same as this time. Just underwhelmed. My lamb chops literally had one small bite each they were seriously small and overly fatty even for lamb. There was a seafood salad that was very bland looking and tasting bland also. Not terrible but pretty unappealing. No gluten free bread, extremely dated music playing.
Still one of the best restaurants in Fort Collins! Great food, great service, great ambiance!
Service was awful but food excellent. The restaurant was not terribly busy yet before we were seated we ordered wine at the bar which had open seats and tables and also not overly busy. After 20 minutes a table opened up and the wine still had not come out. We complained to the bar server and said we should not have to pay for the wine. The bar man didn't have a clue how to deal with this situation, but the manager was great and agreed. The food was terrific and we would definitely give them another chance.
Oysters Rockefeller sent back not baked enough and when returned from the kitchen still not cooked - watery; Brie Sauce was too sweet, dates were delicious. Entrees of steak filets some of best we ever had, and bison - perfectly prepared. Server had too many tables and was very slow.
This is the place to take your foodie friend. We had the crab cake and the mini lobster pot pie for appetizers. Of course we tried each other's and they were both superb. The tiny crab cake came with a drizzle of limoncello beurre blanc, and I was pleasantly surprised at the nice touch it added to the crab cake. The lobster pot pie in puff pastry was very mini but delicious. DH had the chicken cordon bleu which was tender and very good. I had the lamb and goat cheese ravioli, which was absolutely to die for. Lamb has such a strong flavor that it is hard to do something creative, but the seasoning was perfect. I hope it is being considered as a permanent addition to the menu. I had the lemon blueberry bread pudding for dessert and was not surprised to find that was a delightful flavor combination as well. DH had the chocolate peanut butter pie and reported it was very peanutbuttery. The portions are on the small side but we both found them adequate to satisfy our appetites, we didn't have leftovers to take home.
The one weakness I found in the food is that the cheese flavor was lost. Neither of us could taste the Swiss traditionally found in the chicken or the goat cheese in the ravioli. (Which is not a drawback to me, as I don't particularly like either cheese.) I also didn't think the tomato sauce served with the ravioli complemented it well; the lamb was so flavorful that I think a simple butter sauce would have been perfectly adequate and let the lamb shine through. However, I was still so impressed with the food that I am taking my daughter there tonight.
The service was good but I couldn't give it 5 stars because I had the same problem I have at 99% of restaurants; the waiters don't keep up with the quantity of tea I drink and Splenda I use to sweeten it.
First photo is chicken cordon blue and lamb ravioli. Second is lemon blueberry bread pudding and chocolate peanut butter pie.
We always enjoy eating here. They have delicious seafood and vegetarian options which I really appreciate. All of the Tapas we've tried have been fabulous as well!
A very intimate yet spacious place. The atmosphere, including the jazz trio, was great and the food and wine selection were both excellent, as was the service. We'll make eating there a priority on future trips to Ft. Collins.
Good food and service.
My wife and I went there for dinner. The atmosphere is very nice with little dining areas carved out along a central wall. My wife had the chowder and I had the tomato bisque for appetizers and both were very good. We had the filet for our entree, she chose the seasonal veggies and I had the creamed spinach and again both were very good. For me the best part of the night was the bar had Jack Daniels “Single Barrel” which is hard to find at restaurants so I had that to savor through out the meal. Jays will definitely become a go to for special occasions.
Don't spend your hard-earned money here! Great selection of small plate appetizers, which were quite delicious - that was where the good experience ended. We waited a full hour and a half after our appetizers before being served our main course. The waiter kept apologizing that they were very busy and unable to keep up with a full seating. But this was Saturday night and they weren't planning on a full seating??? I can just imagine the cheap management... There was no offer of bread or anything from the kitchen to hold us over. He lied and told me he would "take care of us on the bill" - I received a full bill with no compensation at the end. I ordered a main course of "Colorado" lamb. My lamb was tough to chew and not the amazing flavor of Colorado lamb - this tasted much more like extremely ordinary lamb from the supermarket. They must think their customers are stupid! We ordered Chocolate "Mousse" for dessert - this was lukewarm chocolate with a broken candy bar in it - it had not nearly set into a mousse and was fairly disgusting. That dessert ruined whatever was good in the meal. My whole meal was so bad, I just gave up and chose to pay their damn bill, leave and never come back. Never. Nor should you.
Great food and excellent service.
Had an excellent meal and time for Valentine’s Day. Very happy with our experience.
Great place for Valentine’s Day dinner with someone special. Food is excellent and the service is perfect.
I have eaten at many places in Ft Collins and Jays is by far my favorite!
Very disappointed in bouillabaisse. Tasteless, very little seafood. Won’t order again. Not worth $35..... we usually love the food here. Service and ambience were great.
We went to Jay's Bistro last year for valentine dinner and was very pleased with the food and service, went there this year hoping it would be the same. We was given the valentine menu and did not get to see the reguler menu but noticed the other patrons did. So we ordered off the menu that was gave to us. The food was slow to be served and we were very unhappy with the food we ordered. Wish we would have had a chance to order off the regular menu. Asked the waiter and he said "O" I forgot. Very unhappy and will not return.
Have loved Jay's for years now and bartender Melissa is amazing! The only thing missing are vegan options on the menu but they are willing to make adjustments to the regular menu. Atmosphere is cozy and Jay's is a true gem in Fort Collins. Highly recommend and we keep going back!
Catch of the day special and clam pasta we're both lacking a lot of flavor. The server was forgetful. After a worn down week, didn't feel like waiting for new food. Left dissatisfied and will not return.
We have been going to Jay's for special occasions for years. However, this one didn't quite top the list as the best experience. I made our reservations on-line and there wasn't an opportunity on Open Table to say this was a special occasion (it was our wedding anniversary on the 7th). And unlike Jay's in the past, no one asked as we were being seated by the hostess or by our server. The seafood chowder was excellent, but barely lukewarm (I didn't want to ruin our evening by sending it back). The wine by the glass that I ordered wasn't available, so I was offered a 2nd choice, which was excellent. My ahi special of the day was lukewarm as well, but excellent in taste. Again, I did not tell anyone. The scotch that my husband ordered as an after dinner drink was not available, so he had to chose another one. 'Things' like this typically do not happen at Jay's. Our dinner was on a Wednesday night, so maybe things were re-stocked yet.
Wonderful food and atmosphere.
Reliably good food, service and drinks. Pleasant live music, usually piano w bass, etc.
The food is way overpriced and unfortunately we didn't realize the menu had mostly seafood on it. We also didn't realize there was a separate bar area where we could have gotten tapas. This place is not suitable for those who are Paleo. My husband liked the Bison dish he had but, my salad was drenched in dressing and I couldn't eat it. We specifically went there for the french fries fried in duck fat, which the waitress told us it was only available to order in the bar. We asked her if we could order it anyways and they did allow us to do that. If you like seafood it may be a great place for you but I still think the prices are way too high.
Great spot. Consistently good food and service.
Only request I’d have for a change would be a more affordable Scotch selection. Famous Grouse would help the list of Scotch. Excellent flavor but quite affordable.
We used to love Jay’s Bistro, but our recent experience was not great. The food took a long time, and then it was not hot when we got it. Bummer. The quality has also gone down. For the price you pay the food should taste good and be hot. Next time we go out for a nice dinner we will select another place in town.
