The experience would have been much better if the service hadn’t been so terrible.
We enjoyed the quaint venue, tasty Shepherd's pie and good wine.
Good food. Lovely decor. Loud child screeching for a bit....but that finally ceased when the group left with toddler in tow. Would come back again, and would certainly recommend to friends.
Most places call themselves “gastro pubs” when they’re really just fancy pubs. This is the real deal. Eclectic menu. Everything done very well.
The shepherd's pie was excellent - as were the Manhattans.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Food is always delish and service is excellent.
This was my second visit, and it did not disappoint. I ate the special which was perfectly cooked scallops with risotto. My girlfriend had the steak frites. Both dishes were unbelievable on their own, but combined nicely for surf and turf. The wine was great, the wait staff was great, overall 10/10!
Our men's book club meets frequently at Jaynes lured by the ambiamce, great service and superior quality of the food. We prefer seating either at the front table facing the street window or the charming open air courtyard in the back. The book club members are a 'happy go lucky' group, and the staff generally adds to the bonhomie spirit. We've enjoyed the excellent wine list and drink selections. The appetizers and special menu selections are generally superb, whil pricey. We alternate our book club venues monthly, but we regularily return to Jaynes as our favorite. We generally meet monthly on Tuesday evenings.
My wife and I visited on Presidents Day. I had Fish and Chips. She the Eggplant dish.
Love their food
Had a wonderful time with a group of girls!
Our experience was great!
For sure one of my top 5 places in SD. I wish I could keep that secret but their success ensures I can keep coming back!
I always enjoy dinner at Jayne's. It's one of my favorite San Diego restaurants. Great food and drinks and ambiance. We never miss the wiener schnitzel. It's a special treat when it's on the menu. Excellent selection of beer and wines here too.
Had another great time at Jayne‘s Gastropub. We went for the schnitzel and were not disappointed. The food, wine, the service - all wonderful.
As always Jaynes was great We went for the schnitzel which is s twice a year special Quite good not to be missed
Get the Impossible Burger!!! I have always wanted to try this veggie burger and Jayne's was the first to offer it. It was cooked perfectly and super delicious!
Beautiful spot, but a bit loud. Overall we had a mediocre at best food experience. My steak was supposed to be medium rare but was rare through half. Server didn’t ent check in, so by the time we got his attention we were just ready to wrap. They did comp a dessert that was nice. Won’t be going back unfortunately.
One of the best restaurants in town
Excellent cocktails. My salmon was good; my companion's lamb was way too gamey for me - but then, he ordered it, not me! Service was very good, and I love the atmosphere in the rear patio.
We went for the Restaurant Week dinner and were very happy with everything. The cocktails were particularly good and the food was excellent. I had the filet mignon which was perfectly prepared and accompanied by a nice vegetable selection. Staff were great. This was one of the most enjoyable meals I have had for a while.
Tried this place during SDRW. We weren’t disappointed. The food was great... filet, lamb kabobs, goat cheese soufflé. The Halibut was over cooked and dry but the rest was great. Cute restaurant with outdoor area too. We’ll definitely be back.
Food and service was great. However, so many hard surfaces made the sound very loud. Very difficult to hear each other. We ordered a glass of port after the meal. It was excellent but the glass I had was a bit "unclean".
Awesome pub with a real British vibe. Make sure and try the Impossible Burger and the Sticky Toffee Pudding!
Went for Restaurant week to try it out and I would try it again ordering off the regular menu. Had a wonderful server out back but the their wine list is really pricey along with some of the food.
Magnificent evening we sat on the lovely patio slightly hilly but they have heaters beautiful flowers on our table we loved the restaurant week menu everything was delicious portions were fair not overwhelmingly loved my apple pear crostini dessert
one of my favorites consistently good food great mixed drinks friendly just love it
Lovely dinner. Food was great, very well-presented with layers of flavor that were perfectly complementary. I can't believe I hadn't been there before, but you bet I will be back!!
We love this restaurant in our neighborhood. However this time the fish of the fish and chips was soggy. The short ribs were tough, grizzly like. They were hard to chew and cut. The Italian wedding soup was outstanding. We bought three $50.00 bottle of wine, plus beer. To compensate, they gave us free desserts. The waitress said she would tell the chef. No visit by chef or manager or voice of appreciation and or sorrow. Our friends said they would not return.
The ambience, the service, the food; all wonderful. The patio is a very special at night with high hedges, string lights and heat lamps to keep you warm. We had three dinners and all three of us loved our meals from fish and chips, to sole, to the amazing (vegetarian) burger. The toast with white beans as an appetizer was perfect. My only complaint, and not really a complaint, is that it is a bit pricey. But the value is certainly there, because everything was so good!
Great venue. Super charming service. Prices a little steep but food was quality and good portions!
Dinner was good. It was a quiet Tuesday night. Didn’t really need a reservation. The burger special was $18 and included a draft beer. It was tasty and well prepared. A little greasy, but good. My wife had fish and chips that were good at about $21. Daughter had pasta that was fine. Added a garden salad that was good. Everything was good. A bit pricey for what we got, but that’s North Park.
Ambience was perfection. Such a beautiful patio and the weather was amazing. The impossible burger was amazing and we loved our entire experience. Well done !
My girlfriend and I love this place so much, we've made it a tradition of coming here every Christmas Eve. But we also
Spent our Christmas Eve dining at Jane's. Great choice! Great service, great food. Never disappointed.
We were very fortunate Jayne’s was open on Christmas Eve. We were able to lock in a reservation at a perfect time. The food was wonderful and menu was very descriptive. Service was on point: polite, and attentive. I look forward to heading back on a Tuesday for their Famous burger special. Thanks again guys!
Classic dishes done wonderfully. We haven't had a bad item on the menu yet. The new cocktails are also a great new treat and we can't wait to come back and try some more things.
The food and the service was very good. What we (all) didn't like was they had it so dark (6pm) that we had to use our phone light to see the menu and by the time we got our food, the noise level had reached such a pitch that we were almost shouting at each other to be heard 1 1/2 feet away. That is the one thing I really dislike in a restaurant, having to shout during dinner. Please spend some money on some sound absorption panels!!! Oh yes, the prices not so clear on the menu. A "special" that was listed was $18 but the others in the same spot on the menu ran $24 but wasn't listed as such. A bit of a surprise to the person who ordered it. Probably won't be returning.
My wife and I came here for her birthday. We sat outside in the back, which was nice. Great drinks, good food, and good service. The price was really what got us. Makes me feel like a cheap-o for even writing this. But the value isn’t there. We paid $16.50 for the Caesar salad! The salad was good, but it was just one head of romaine and we added anchovies. My wife ordered the local halibut on special and liked it. I had the eggplant tikka masala and also liked it. The halibut seemed to be the only thing priced right.
Side note: the pricing on the menu doesn’t seem to match the pricing in their system. For instance, the Negroni I drank was listed at $13. We were charged $14. The menu reads that the Caesar is $14.50 and the anchovies were a $1 add-on. We were charged $16.50. Not a big deal, just struck us both as odd.
I have been to Jayne's several times. The Pinot Noir they had by the glass was mediocre. I think the Rickshaw Pinot is better for example. The duck breast was well-prepared as was the spinach and the mushrooms. Delicious flavors. The flourless chocolate cake was dry; Smoking Goat has an excellent one. The blackberry sorbet was so-so; not very intense blackberry flavor.
