Great experience except for the fried calamari. It came to the table i one large pile of oily, soggy, tasteless calamari.
Very tasty. Jaynes Never Disappoints. I will be going back
Charming atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious food!
I love this place! The food and service are always amazing.
The patio is the best spot, far less noisy than indoors and such a pretty space. The food is some of the best in San Diego, IMO, and I've visited JG more than half a dozen times now. My only criticism is the price for the appetizers is high, considering the portions. One example is the cheese platter which had two crostinis and two very small tastes of three kinds of cheeses. Delicious, but a little chintzy. Will keep going back though. Love it!
The schnitzel was awesome as always. Have been coming here for years for it and never disappoints.
the outside back patio is dreamy as always, food for restaurant week was delish. highly recommend
Went for restaurant week
Came here for San Diego Restaurant Week and it was so yummy! Love the ambience as you walk in and me and my best friend were seated in the back patio which was O adorable and quaint! Will definitely be back! Everything was delicious. Excellent service and atmosphere! Great Thursday night!
Had dinner with my friends and as always Jaynes didn't disappoint!
Loved the outdoor area. Our server was helpful and provided great recommendations. Food was outstanding
Came in for restaurant week but super disappointed with food and service. It took almost 45mins for appetizers to come and dinner was also delayed. Service was just par checked on us but took a long time for server to acknowledge that food was taking a long time. This was the second visit for us but not sure we will come back.
My hamburger was spectacular. My wife's Shepherd's Pie was a bit spicy for her 'supertaster' palate, but did not seem so to me. Instantly substituting a chicken pasta dish to her exacting specifications got full marks for Service Recovery. Quiet patio, charming staff, good food. We'll be back for sure.
The food and atmosphere are always perfect. I find them to be the best restaurant in town. They manage to hit every note just right and have the most pleasant team around. I've been going regularly for the last 10 years and have always had an exceptional experience.
This is becoming one of our favorite places. Great food, good wine list and garden dining. What's not to like?
Mussels were the best!
Lovely setting, always delicious food, great wine list - professional staff... a favorite!
Server could not have been nicer, and tried to be helpful...just food coming out was SUPER SLOW...several tables that arrived long after us were served before us. Not terribly impressed with the menu selections...think the hamburgers looked the best...
Patio dinning was beautiful and charming. Inside was warm and stuffy for a warm evening. Food great and service was wonderful.
My family and I LOVE this place! Casual vibe with phenomenal food!
Lovely neighborhood spot! Solid wine list, charm & interesting, quality food. Try the chorizo mussels!!
Pretty place. Nice variety on the menu. Food was ok. My fried chicken was good. Mashed potatoes ok. Fish and chips not good over cooked and French fries were cold. We didn’t have time to send it back. Dirty glass for wine and I had to go find the waiter to get a new one.
My wife an I recently dined at Jaynes Gastro Pub for our weekly dat night and it was an ok experience but it’s not a place I would go back to visit without a few key changes in food and service. I didn’t care for the host, food was marginal and we sat inside being told that the patio was booked. I was put off by the attitude of the host for not accommodating our request to sit in the patio, where most tables we open, even after we left! I had booked a reservation on open table and they told me I needed to specify, which seems like a weak excuse to not accommodate our request. I hoped the food would overcome this initial disappointment, so we settled into our evening. I brought a nice bottle of wine and they charge a $25 corkage, which I don’t mind paying, but the staff didn’t really focus on wine service to warrant the fee. I had to ask for them to open it, was not offered a decant and pretty much poured our own through the course of evening. Fortunately, our waitress was darling, which was the highlight of the night. The food came out and the appetizer was good, main course was ok and dessert ok. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but two of the selections were specials, which should have showed their best stuff. Bottom line, I think the place needs to refocus its efforts on providing a great experience to new diners because there are too many other places that try hard to make their guests feel special and deliver results worth returning time and again.
Loved it. Will return.
Outstanding as always is at Jayne's. We had the 4th of July special hot dogs, terrific and also the fried chicken dinner and the steak frites. All were excellent, even had a Baja Pale Ale on draft which was perfect with my TJ Dog!!
We arrived early to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail. We enjoyed the company of the bartender, Garrett, so much that we had appetizers and then ultimately elected to dine and spend the rest of the evening at the bar
My meal at Jaynes was outstanding, as usual. This is really my go-to place or a regular meal for myself or a special place to take my out-of-town
Great food and drinks. Wonderful service. Outdoor dining in back was charming. High praise all around.
The outside patio is so cozy. Everyone was above and beyond friendly. The food was all delicious. Our party was able to talk and enjoys each other’s company as normal volume. Just a wonderful evening all around. Can’t wait to go back and try other menu items. :)
Excellent food and service. We were inside and we had difficulty hearing each other.
I've been wanting to try Jayne's for a couple years now and am so happy I did! Can't believe I waited so long. The staff was amazing (and gave excellent wine recommendations) and the food was delicious. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Very good, will definitely go back.
There were 5 of us. 2 of us arrived 20 mins early for our reservation and we were greeted immediately, with a smile and they were very open to seating the two of us early. The service from the beginning and throughout the meal was very good - attentive without being overbearing.
We ordered the goat cheese souffle and moroccan lamb chops for apps - both excellent. We had the lamb shepherd's pie, bucatini (pasta), salmon and the eggplant curry - all were very good. The salmon was perfectly cooked and a large serving. We had the creme brulee and fruit pie and gelato for dessert. All were very good and the gelato was exceptional.
The ambiance was nice - we'll laid out, a good vibe without being too noisy. Reminded me of a restaurant in NYC or London.
Would recommend to anyone who likes good food, good service and a overall nice night out.
Delicious food and good service, loved the patio area.
Let me start with the good. The restaurant itself is designed very well. We were seated on the patio, which I was grateful for given how loud it was inside. I was pleased with how quaint the patio is and they had enough patio heaters to keep us warm. Also good was the food. We started with the poutine which was fabulous. I had the shepards pie. Wife had the eggplant and our friend had the Carbonara. All three dishes were very good. My daughter had pasta from the kids menu and loved it.
What I did not like and what will probably keep me from coming back was the wait. I make reservations to keep from having to wait. And I understand that sometimes guests will stick around a little bit longer than expected and therefore back things up. However, we waited almost 30 minutes to be seated and were told twice that they were getting the table ready. I did my best to overlook this and looked forward to my meal. Our appetizers were brought out fairly quickly however it was an hour after we were seated that our main dishes were finally brought to the table. So yes, we were there an hour and a half before we got our food. After we finished, we were rushed out with no mention of dessert.
Nice place, friendly staff, good food. Horrible wait.
This is one of my wife and I favorite restaurant. We have been coming here for around 10 years. They have not disappointed once.
My daughters and I had brunch on Easter Sunday. Service was extremely slow. They were pleasant but we waited about an hour and a half before receiving our orders and mine was partially wrong. We sat outside which was lovely but the inside was a bit dark and very loud so I’d suggest sitting in outdoor patio as it was much quieter and very pleasant atmosphere! The food was fine and only slightly overpriced but not ridiculously so. The complimentary scones were wonderful! All in all I’d give it another chance but I’d suggest Über rather than parking. And btw this wasn’t their usual menu so that could be why service was so slow. Everyone was pleasant which mostly made up for slow food service. Their pleasant behavior is why I’d go again☺️
This restaurant came highly recommended, so made it even a bigger disappointment for Easter Brunch. We were only a party of two, seated in a room of large, noisy parties. The service was painfully slow (took 30 min to get our first drink and place an order), the food on a high price point was just blah. We ordered steak and eggs, and fish and chips. The eggs were over cooked and home potatos had no flavor, the restaurant offered no sauces to help this flavor, only ketchup or hot sauce. The fish and chips was a good quality fish, but doughy batter, cold fries which had obviously been sitting waiting for the fish. The best part of the whole meal were the fresh baked scones. We went all the way from Encinitas and won’t be making the trip again for this restaurant. There are far better restaurants in North Park within a block of this one. This are even more between Encinitas and North park or downtown SD.
The food was delicious and the server was charming. The ambiance was lovely.
I wish I could go every night. Jayne's is outstanding! Don't miss the arancini appetizer and the halibut entree. They achieve a level of cuisine rarely evident in mid-city restaurants and equivalent to anything in La Jolla or Del Mar. PLUS, the British schtick is very fun.
