Jaya at the Setai Ratings and Reviews
Jaya presents itself as a 5 star experience, however like many reviewers, I found the service did not live up to my view of this standard. We ate during Art Basel, so the restaurant was crowded, so if they anticipated service issues with temporary staff, they could have reduced the 20% automatic service charge. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes for someone to greet us but we had to go to the host stand to ask if someone could wait on us. The servers who came to our table dropped off food (often lukewarm) asking who got what and without a shred of a smile. I noticed other customers getting up to get water since no servers could be found. An expensive dinner that was not worth the money or the time.
The place is so beautiful. Our dinner was superb. Started with the truffled dumplings (one of a kind!!) Steak as the dinner, was so juicy and tasty. Our service is what stood out though. A special thanks to Ashley and Gretchen. Those two are a key to the operation, they executed it amazingly. The next time in town we will be returning. Thanks!
The food was great but the service was terrible. 20% gratuity is already included so our waitress didn’t seem to care at all and treated us very poorly. It’s unfortunate because the food there is good but our service was so poor that I️ wouldn’t consider going back.
Very poor attempt at asian cuisine starting with the random menu, food with no depth of flavour and basic errors such as overcooked rice and food brought to the table cold. Managed to find a reasonable bottle of red wine from the huge menu but sadly brought to the table straight from the fridge. When mentioned to the server he simply agreed and walked off! Also worth noting that smoking is permitted at the table. Cocktails were the only positive of the night out.
Excellent meal, food was delicious and fresh. The ambience was wonderful, picturesque setting with low lighting. Staff were attentive but not pushy. Good wine list and complimentary dessert to share. Prices a little higher but well worth it for the setting and food.
Beyond horrible experience. I went with a friend for lunch. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare and it was served cold and well done (who do I look like, Trump??). Also, it was supposed to be an entre but I would say it was actually appetizer sized. Similarly, the tuna poke had no flavor and had the consistency of rubber. Only good thing was the truffle dumplings. Also the service was insultingly terrible, presumably because gratuity is include. They brought all three courses at once and our cocktails afterwards. Never ever again.
I always loved Jaya at the Setay but, for the first time, I am not giving them five stars.
Food delivery was so slow that it took hours to end dinner and the waiters where kind but they kept forgetting things .
I hope next time it's going to be better
