Jaxx Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
I have been on 3 different occasions. The food is above 5 star. The chef has been preparing meals since they opened. Everything on the menu is great. The service is superior. I went with a party of 8 on Monday night and we could have a conversation from one end of the table to the other. I went on a Friday night for my birthday and they had a sax player (only Friday night) and he was terrific. If you want a quiet, pleasant, enjoyable restaurant with fantastic food go. Make a reservation or use open table.
We have eaten a Jaxx many times in the past and have always found the experience delightful. This visit however was completely different. To begin with, it was twenty minutes after we were seated that the waiter came to see if we would like a pre-dinner cocktail or an appetizer. We ordered a glass of wine and a mixed drink which was finally delivered by the bartender himself but the cocktail was extremely weak. In the past the cocktails had been well prepared. We ordered from a pre-set menu since it was Christmas eve and the appetizers and were large in proportion and quite large and very good. The soup and salad were also very good but were delivered before we had eaten even half of our appetizers. For our entree, my wife ordered the hallibut which she said was excellent and I ordered the ribeye steak. As stated earlier, we have eaten at Jaxx many times before and it was wonderful but this steak was horrible. It was cokked as I requested but the meat was tough and stringy with gristle throughout. I was able to eat about one third of it and then got tired of trying to cut it and chew it. As is the custom at Jaxx I was offered a take home container for the steak but it was so bad that I passed on that. Maybe it was just that piece of meat but I've never had such poor quality steak at this establishment. As to the service, it was the slowest and most disappointing we've ever experienced at Jaxx. Different waitstaff brought various courses in an overlapping fashion and then there would be a long gap before the next course arrived?
While at the restaurant my wife and I agreed that if we had not eaten at Jaxx before we would never eat there again. Because we have been there before we will go back again and we can only hope that this experience was a one time deal. We normally recommend Jaxx to all our friends but this experience has made us hesitant to do so.
Jaxx was a pleasant surprise. Not only was I close to our home, but the ambience was reminiscent of a Chicago Steakhouse. Originally from the Midwest, this brought back great memories. Max was our waiter and was extremely attempting. Food was excellent, so many great choices, and great wine and bar options too. Do yourself a favor, check out Jaxx. I will definitely repeat.
Dinner was delicious. Our two steaks were so tender we could cut them with the regular knife. The fish entrees were also enjoyed by the other two people. Max was our server and the our service was great.
We enjoyed the restaurant and the food and the evening very much.
We will return soon. Thanks.
We had a birthday dinner for my brother at JAXX. The waitress seemed very confused and unorganized asking us several times for our orders. When the food came my steak was the peppercorn not the 6oz filet and I told her I really didn't want the peppercorn. She said sorry but what is the difference? I said for one, mine came with veggies not just potatoes. She said ok, I'll bring you veggies, which she did. I switched steaks with my husband as I really can't eat crushed peppercorns. There was never a mention of the birthday or offer of dessert even though I put it on the reservation. On the plus side the food was very good and steaks were perfectly prepared. I love that they no longer allow smoking, that was the reason we had quit coming here.
This place is great--as good or better than any of the major chain steak houses. We had the filet and the peppercorn steaks at our table. Cooked just as requested and delicious. Both cheddar mashed potatoes and garlic mashed potatoes were great. The wedge salad was THE BEST--and half of one was plenty. But saving the best for last--if you are a dessert person, you MUST try the bread pudding!!!
We knew we were in trouble when we ordered a dirty martini. They were out of olives. Our waitress would disappear constantly. She didn't know the menu. We had to ask several times for our check. We finally flagged down another waiter that brought us our check. We got the shrimp stuffed with crab meat and the shrimp was hard on the bottom very over cooked and tough. Our filets were ok. We were told that others were very disappointed, but wanted to form our own opinion. Will NEVER go back again.
We have been regulars at Jaxx for several years. The filet with peppercorn is my personal favorite. I love their peppercorn sauce with the Jaxx fries (pan fried dice potatoes). The wedge salad was very good. The service was excellent. We did not have dessert so cannot comment on it. If you have not been there in awhile, try it. I think it has new management.
We tried Jaxx's because we received a coupon in the mail. We were very pleased with our meal. Our table tried the beef filet, chicken, ribeye and scallops/shrimp dishes. They were all fantastic. Our favorite side dish was the cauliflower mash. It was by far the best one I've ever had. We would definitely recommend this to others.
THIS IS OUR THIRD VISIT TO JAXX AND ONCE AGAIN A JOY. THOUGH THE PRICES ARE A LITTLE HIGH FOR A NEIGHBORHOOD CAFE,COMPARED TO A LARGE STEAK RESTAURANT, THE SMALL FEELING AND COMFORT OF THE CAFE ONLY ADDED TO THE DINING. SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE IN THE BAR AREA BUT DID NOT FILL THE DINING ROOM WITH NOISE. COMFORT WAS HAVING A GET TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS FOR A DRINK. LIMITED MENU BUT WITH FISH AS AN ADDED PLEASURE. TWO OF US HAD STEAKS WITH MIXED VEGGGIES WHILE A THIRD FRIEND HAD SALMON COOKED THE WAY HE ORDERED. SPLIT A VERY SMOOTH NEW YORK STYLE CHEESE CAKE. WE WILL BE BRINGING MORE FRIENDS
Jaxx is always a very pleasant experience. The wine list is broad enough to please and the food is always spot-on. The chef could prepare the Oscar a little more often but the alternatives always please. Jazz is one of our go-to places when we have friends in town or it is just the Missus and I.
This well-established restaurant has a beautiful, small dining room and stunning bar. The service is personal and attentive. The menu lacks creativity, and the steaks we had seem to not be the finest cute, despite a prime cut price. we had an enjoyable meal, but Jaxx is not going to be at the top of my kist for a return engagement unless the widen their fish options and only serve the highest quality beef.
