Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar- Fort Collins Ratings and Reviews
The - crab and sea bass, seafood was excellent as well as the salads. But the sides potatoes were not so great - small pieces and kind of well done and greasy it would be nice to have mashed potatoes as a choice. Did not like the bread they served - would rather have sour dough. We did not like the side potatoes so we gave them back and ordered the truffle potatoes but the ended up being the exact same potatoes but with truffle sauce - the sauce was great - but the potatoes were duplicated . No one told us they were the same. The waiter was great but the bus help was a bit confused it took them a long time to get cocktail sauce which I needecin order to start eating my crab
just wonderful from the moment the hostess greeted us, found us two seats at the bar to wait a short time for our reserved booth, drinks served, wait staff attentive accurate and timely to outstanding appetizers and main dish. Service and quality aligned very well to cost.
Our first visit to this busy restaurant with great food for seafood lovers. Service was fantastic , Sara was really good to us , helpful suggestions, did check on us regularly promptly responding to all of our requests. The oysters were fresh and positively delishious as was the rest of our meal. Would recommend and will be back often
Your reservation process worked like a charm. Jax has been our family's favorite for many years. Lots of special occasions. Is our daughter-in-laws fav and she is Swedish. At her request my entire fam joined us for our last meal together before everyone departed for Sweden, Germany and Boulder.
Came time to order our drinks to toast a great holiday but Jax would not accept any ID but her passport. Not her Swedish ID or any other ID. She did not bring her passport as it was packed for their return trip. She works for Swedish gov. And is 29 years old with same last name as everyone at the table. We did not make a scene but since she had been here at least 4 other times without passport didn't expect. Kind of changed our mood, embarrassed her and we got seated by kitchen and was not experience we wanted. $400 we could have spent somewhere else where common sense and better service could have won out. Will not be returning unless our daughter in law requests. Next time she's here..... couple of years maybe. An updated and international ID verification code needs to be introduced. Losing a liquor license is huge and we all got it but in this circumstance there was zero risk.
Considering our bill we would have expected more for the money. I've seen bigger goldfish than my order of catfish. While the ambiance was nice, we expected more for the amount of food vs the amount it cost. Also the food was nothing more than average fare, considering what the is in Ft Collins for dining. Jax could have been so much more. Even so, when our last time in town (3 years) the meal was outstanding for the price per plate, looking forward to returning. Which ended up being sort of a letdown. Now the service was exceptional , wait staff very helpful and attentive. Shout out to Steve for his on the money service.
Wonderful food! Server was extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the values of this restaurant in terms of sustainability and fresh fish and seafood acquisition. Lovely atmosphere! Dessert chocolate was divine! Wine Wednesday is half priced bottles!
The food was good, but not great (my fish was not hot, but my wife's scallops were). The plates were on the right size (maybe a tad small). Wine list is nice with reasonable prices. The desert was excellent. The overall price is a bit high for the value. We went for our anniversary and a had a nice table and a nice meal...but I might go to another pace next time. I would likely recommend Jax to a friend -- but only if they were looking for a higher priced restaurant. I think the value is not quite there.
So glad for this restaurant....GREAT Happy hour items (food/drink), and quality customer service/inventive creations from the kitchen. Tonight I enjoyed some fresh oysters w/ an apple cider mignonette w/ a Scarpetta Sparkling Wine, flavorful clam chowder, great grilled/smoked scallop special with a French Savignon Blanc, and hazelnut cake.
we didn't get seated until 8 for a 730 reservation so that was frustrating. Other than that great service. good food. But if the noise level of Jax makes it difficult to have conversation with even a small group. Probably best for 2 people only. Kelly is a great server.
We frequent Jax regularly... it is our favorite restaurant! They have virtually everything that makes for a perfect dining experience... GREAT people, outstanding food and a wonderful atmosphere! We have never had a bad or even marginal experience... always excellent! We highly recommended Jax to everyone!
15 years ago we ate at Jax in Denver when we were dating. This was out 15th anniversary and we found Jax in Fort Collins. We live in Wyoming where where the only seafood is deep fat fried frozen shrimp. Our food was outstanding, the drinks were great and we got a free desert since it was our anniversary. The waitress was new but very competent and friendly. The manager came by to congratulate us. Very pleased.
The food is great. Blending traditional seafood dishes with innovative spices and flavors. The happy hour choices are a great value that truly satisfy while mixing up different foods. Oysters are always fresh and have excellent choices from each coast. The wait staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. One of our favorite spots in all of Ft Collins.
We had a wonderful server, one who answered questions and provided recommendations (it was our first visit). Without exception, the food was excellent - we ordered oysters, tuna tacos and shrimp for starters and scallops, fish and ramen soup for dinner. We also had dessert, mainly because the meal was so good, we wanted to try more (creme fraiche and s'mores). Prices are high, but we felt the value was pretty good, other than the scallops (absolutely yummy, but $32 for 4-5 scallops? A bit pricey). Everything is a la carte. Still - we went to celebrate Mother's Day, had a lovely time, enjoyed the food and experience and wouldn't hesitate to return!
We arrived a little late and had a show to attend. At first, I thought we were in trouble for time because our waitress was so attentive to the table next to us. As it turned out, she was attentive to us as well and managed her time such that we were well served and well fed with minutes to spare for time to make it to the performance. Well done, Jax's!
We have been to Jax many times and we have never been disappointed. The fish dishes are prepared well. The prices are reasonable and the specials are delicious. Their Happy Hour selection and prices are the best in Ft. Collins. This may sound strange coming from a Florida boy, but their calamari is the best I have tasted.
It can get very busy so make reservations. It can be noisy but a great place for a family dinner.
Wine list is not extensive but reasonable.
