Jax Fish House in Boulder works tirelessly to bring fresh caught seafood and fine coastal food to the surrounding landlocked community. The dining experience at Jax Fish House focuses on sustainable seafood when choosing who to partner with to provide guests only the freshest seafood. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner with dining options that include bar seating, tables and a chef's counter.
The menu at Jax Fish House is dependent on market availability as all of the seafood used in house is flown in daily from one of the coasts. Guests favorites include hot oysters in three different flavors, green curry mussels and the sinker sampler platter with East Coast oysters, green lip mussels, peel n' eat shrimp, snow and king crab and lobster.
Rarely disappointed eating at Jax, and was not this time. Waitress was very attentive, but not annoyingly so. We normally do a couple of dozen oysters plus multiple happy hour plates - spicy tuna, green curried mussels, crispy and tender calamari. This time we also split the TomYum Prawns, which was generous and very tasty and lemongrassy, however not a very authentic soup flavor - a little too heavy on the dashi (maybe soy?) and brown colored, missing some of the reddish, pepper slant. The waitress also very generously gifted us a wonderful bread pudding dessert for my son’s bon voyage dinner. One of our fave/go-to restaurants.
Love Jax. Thank you for yet another perfect meal. Cioppino was even better than I hoped for :).
Great and kind service. Tasty seafood, generous on helping with wine selections and pricing. We always eat here when in town. Just need a larger space.
Overpriced bland over cooked food.
Crab was dry. Oysters small. Just not very good.
Jax is one of our favorite restaurants. Located on Pearl Street it is charged with a very positive vibe from the customers, to the fantastic service, to the delicious appetizers and entrees. The tables are a bit tight in the small space, but that just makes the spot seem cozy and friendly.
This is really a can't miss option for a great meal on the weekend. Afterward you can take a walk down Pearl Street and enjoy the Boulder scene.
Recommended by a friend. Great food and service. A menu that will bring us back several times. Good wine selection. Be sure to make a reservation as this place was full even at 5 pm!
I had not been to Jaxs in a longtime. I had very fond memories of the food. Again the seafood is the best. I am from the coast and grew up on seafood. This is the only place I know to recommend for fish in Boulder. This time the food was excellent as usual but the noise level is so high. Not good for a date night or celebration when you want to talk. The tables are jammed in, the wait staff can barely make it through. Service was good because everyone helps out everyone. I did not like our waiter, he just wasn't good. Maybe we are too old for this atmosphere, 60 and 68.
We mistakenly made a last minute reservation on Valentine's evening thinking normal menu was available. Of course it was a special spread for the occasion at $75 a head. We have been together for 45 years so we just don't do that sort of thing. But there we were, and it was fabulous. Menu was innovative, flavors absolutely delicious, they had exotic things like oxtail, Thai sausage, very rare in Boulder. Strongly recommend they get some of that wicked stuff onto their regular menu. A spontaneous and very special occasion.
Top notch food, creative and perfectly prepared, a great place to find seafood 1000 miles from the sea. To me their absolute best feature is the staff. Our waiter (Justin) was attentive without being intrusive, and he volunteered suggestions based on our tastes. The icing on the cake was when, 5 minutes after leaving the restaurant, the hostess texted to tell me that my girlfriend had left her leather gloves on the table. Now that's class.
Jax is pricey but well worth it. Noisy, but so are most restaurants in downtown Boulder, and that just adds to the energy.
Fantasmicoric the best valentine's day meal ever
