Javelina Ratings and Reviews
I live in Dallas, Texas and I don't usually risk eating Tex-Mex east of the Mississippi River. But Javelina served an amazing meal from the chips and salsa to the queso and taquitos and the stacked brisket enchiladas with a poblano cream sauce and a fried egg. It was all simply superb.
We had an early New Year's Eve dinner at Javelina. Cocktails were fine, service was really attentive, food was tasty, portions were average. We enjoy eating here because it has the feel of a local, neighborhood place. One thing that surprised us was no availability of hot coffee or tea after our meal, also no desert menu...seemed a bit odd...but we did enjoy everything else.
Really poor service. Was excited to go out to dinner here as I’ve walked by many times. I had a reservation and was not seated for about 15min after my reservation.
Upon trying to order drinks at the bar we could not order a pitcher and then were not able to transfer our bill to the table. We also had to wait in the cold/crowded doorway.
Once seated the food was delicious. They just need to figure out the service.
Our food and half full drinks were taken abruptly from the table so dinner was cut very short. It was clear they wanted us to hurry up. However, once we gave the waiter our cards it took over 30min to actually get our cards back and leave.
The food and drinks were really great however the service was almost bad enough not to go back.
meh. it was my first time here - my friend had been raving about the queso for months so we finally went. the queso was good but everything else was ok - the margaritas were fine, tacos were ok, nothing special. the place is wayyyyyyyy too loud - we ended up leaving quickly just so we could talk. won't go back.
Absolutely love it! It's quickly become one of my go- to spots in the city! Its in a great location and has a wonderful vibe. If you haven't tried the Queso then idk what you're even doing there. I'm desperate for them to open another location or for a way that I can make myself a secret club card remember or something. I'm obsessed!!
We showed up at 7:21, 6 min after the reservation time and the hostess said she cancelled out reservation because we showed up 15 min late. No we showed up 6 min late lady. She refused to talk to us, we had to point out on the watch how many minutes late we were. It was an unacceptable way of being greeted.
Everything here seems to be premixed. Don't want peppers in your fajitas, too bad they are already mixed with the onions. Don't want jalapenos in the 14 dollar guac, too bad somehow the guac is mixed before you order. The fajitas are brought on a sizzling plate with a Burner still lit so while you're getting through your meal your meat is just burning to a crisp. For a city with a lack of tex mex I guess this place might survive but it leaves a lot to be desired.
Javelina exceeded my expectations for a Tex Mex restaurant. The atmosphere is lively and the service, friendly and attentive. It was evident in everything from the chips and salsa to the small donut they served at the end that they don't cut corners in the kitchen. The food was fresh, tasty and was made with quality ingredients.
Javelina is now I'm my short list when the Tex Mex craving hits.
This is our new favorite for lunch dates near work! AMAZING habenero white peach margarita and good food! A little more expensive than I'd like considering the casual atmosphere, but the service was amazing. We only had 45 minutes to eat and the servers couldn't have been more helpful.
The food was really good! The portions are quite large though, so be careful that you don't over-order. The music was REALLY loud though and we were there and we were all struggling to hear one another, but I felt particularly bad for some of the older family members that we were with.
We had a reservation for 5 people at 8pm. Table wasn't available till 8:45pm. Not a good situation considering the restaurant is a 1 hour drive from my house. The staff was very apologetic and pleasant and offered us a drink on the house which was nice.
The restaurant was extremely loud which was terrible for us because we were meeting friends from overseas and were basically unable to hear each other without screaming...the noise level ruined the night for us.
It was my first time there and I made my decision based on numerous good reviews but felt I made a terrible decision for our group.
