Food was excellent. Service was smooth and ! Highly recommend
Food was good, though a little overpriced (especially if you're comparing to peers in Texas). It's a good attempt at authentic Tex-Mex and likely the closest you'll get in NYC. Service was the major gripe, believe only one waitress was working the whole restaurant on a Sunday and multiple diners were repeatedly flagging her for service help.
The food and service were excellent. The drinks were small and disappointing for the value.
AMAZING - such good cheese dip really recommend this to anyone who needs some white queso fill!
great queso. great sangria swirls!
5 th time there
Delicious and generous portions of Mexican style fare. We enjoyed the margaritas and the atmosphere was unassuming, not too noisy for a conversation.
Favorites tonight were the white Queso dip and Chili Relleno. Perfection! And terrific service by all.
No pitchers of drinks!
We had a great time.
Great drinks with amazing food. Fantastic for groups.
Very good Tex-Mex. Margaritas were tasty—in my opinion, some of the best in the city, in fact. Ambience was a bit lacking—lights could be dimmed a little so you don’t feel like you’re eating at a fast causal restaurant. Service was fair, but could be improved; waitress disappeared for awhile.
Went to Javelina for a girls night dinner, definitely make a reservation, I've never seen less than a 2 hour wait without one! We had a reservation but still had to wait about 25 minutes for our table, so the hostess let us get a round of drinks on the house which was very nice of them. Once seated our server was very friendly and the food was fantastic. Loved the queso, and I had the vegetable fajitas which were great.
They were 20 minutes late seating us
Made a reservation and they were running late and very graciously gave us drinks. The place is young very young, and the food is definitely fun to eat. Unfortunately the salt will catch up with you if you're salt sensitive. Good place to go if you're looking for a bit of a party atmosphere.
The food was bland and the portions small for the price. The staff was incredibly helpful.
Incredible food! Our waiter was super nice and on top of chip, drink, and salsa refills!
Queso = 👌
They were very busy but we got sat right away since we had a reservation. My husband just moved from Texas and has been craving for Tex-Mex. This was right up his alley. He ordered the Sour Cream & Steak enchilada and was perfect, I ended up munching off his plate quite a few times. Our server was very busy but was still able to take care of us. All around wonderful date night!
Never ceases to amaze how great Javelina is
Excellent food at a fair price. Did reserve a table but it was relatively empty at lunch time, although being the day after a holiday maybe that should be expected. Menu offered a good variety
Only negative was when the meal was over it took a while to get the bill, ( although some people may find that relaxing)
Would recommend to friends or business associates
I’m from Dallas originally and quite frankly Tex-mex seemed like a cuisine I could only get back home. I’ve gone to queens, Brooklyn & manhattan only to be left hungry and disappointed, opting to have my mother overnight fresh made tortillas for me to diy. Javelina did not disappoint, although it’s still better in Texas, Javelina is about as Texas as it gets in nyc.
I suggest always making a reservation though, to guarantee you get a table and to experience the amazing food
This place is the only place in the entire city where I will eat their queso. Love to just share appetizers and drinks with friends here, but main entrees are also delicious. Come hungry, you'll leave stuffed!
Best Tex-Mex in NYC. Submitted by a native Texan.
the meat is awful. drinks are great. no real hot sauces. go to La Esquina. The meat is really bad here.
Come for the Bob Armstrong Queso dip, stay for the smoky mezcal Negroni
Both top notch
Great margaritas and queso. Fun atmosphere, loved our server. A great place and amazing time. One of my nyc favs for Tex Mex
Service Poor. How can you have just one waitress taking care of the orders? We were there ahead of our other two guests. She finally took our order for drinks after sitting there for quite some time. There were free taco chips placed on the table. Another couple came in and was seated one table away from us. They were served much faster than my wife and myself. Our other two guests arrived and then we asked for drinks and then she got side tracked. We waited and the table next to ours had received their drinks and their apps. Waiting she came back with the drinks and then we ordered queso for our chips. Waiting again and at this point the couple received their dinner. I would never go back to this restaurant if you paid me. They left before us. Your too cheap to hire another waitress shame on you!!!!
THEY HAVE CHEESE DIP!!!! SO EXCITING to find a place in nyc that has tex mex cheese dip! MUST GO
5 out of 5 night, brought my very picky Texan friend and he can’t stop talking about how good it was! We want to have the habanero queso and white peach habanero margaritas everyday!
Great food and drinks. Service is very very slow.
Always love it. Special spot. Great food. Great servers!!!
Javelina made me happy. Great staff, perfect Tex-Mex, good margaritas, solid service. If there were one in in my ‘hood, I’d endow a seat at the bar.
Food was excellent. Service was a little slow but staff are very friendly.
Had dinner here in April 2018 with some friends. I grew up in Austin, Texas so my standards for Tex-Mex are pretty high. Generally what most places outside of the Southwest call Tex-Mex is bad. Javelina is real Tex-Mex. More than that, it's real GOOD Tex-Mex. The Queso (traditional and queso-blanco) was phenominal, and I was in love with the Bob Armstrong dip (something I didn't think I would ever get outside of Texas). The brisket tacos were tender and flavorful. The mexican margarita was great too.
It's a small restaurant and very popular, so don't expect quiet cozy ambience. There's great energy though, and we never felt cramped. The service was very good as well, with food coming quickly and accurately. We did feel a little rushed to leave after finishing dinner, but I understood, since the restaurant was small and popular, they wanted to make room for the next set of diners.
I would not hesitate to come back again.
We love Javelina! The queso is to die for. I only wish they had more space or a room for bigger parties. We always wanna come here when people visit with a large group but unfortunately it’s just not built to accommodate. But doesn’t keep us away! Highly recommend it!
Great upbeat atmosphere! The staff was very friendly and we were immediately seated and served chips and salsa, which was delicious. Definitely recommend the frozen margaritas! We ordered chicken tacos and the fish tacos. The fish tacos weren’t that great- the fish that day was shark, which I wish I had known before ordering because the texture was very tough and more like chicken. Wasn’t a big fan, but I’m sure they will be better with a different type of fish. The chicken tacos were very good though!
Overall, it is a great little spot and would try again.
I've been here twice. The food is always good; drinks. too.
But the guy at the front check in desk was horrible and rude.
I had a reservation, and he wouldn't let me sit until my
friend arrived - although all the tables were empty. I
asked him nicely, and he was abrupt and nasty. I will
never return to Javelina, nor recommend it to anyone.
had to wait long for our reservation, but the host gave us a free round so no real complaints. food was good, service a little slow but not annoyingly slow.
