Jarrettown Hotel Ratings and Reviews
New Year's Eve so things were a bit slow and our wait staff could have been much more attentive even with the high number of diners. That being said they were personable and when the crowd did slow down they were much better. Did not come by to find out how our meals were and did not bring plates utensils etc as we were told they would so we could share salad appetizers etc. The manager had to come by so that we could send back the pasta that was undercooked, but a replacement was brought out in record speed. Overall it was a nice New Year's Eve the food was very good to excellent and we will hopefully return at a more normal time when we can enjoy the ambiance the food the service while we relax and have an excellent meal.
Went for NYE for he first time. Had a reservation but it was crowded so we said we didn’t mind waiting at the bar. We were seated shortly after but it took some time for my boyfriend to close out at the bar. Food was good, service was good, the appeal from the outside (stone and cozy and romantic) matches the inside. I can’t hold it against them, but the flow through the dining areas is off. You can’t walk around the enclosed porch to get to the other side, have to walk through a service area and a dining room. Great menu. Would love to go back.
This place is beautiful. When I went, the day after Christmas, all the decorations were up and were very tasteful and elegant. When we arrived for lunch, shortly before our 1:00 reservation, there was no one to greet us. The entrance opens into the bar area, but there was no hostess or wait person, or even bartender in sight. We had to go in search of someone to seat us. Once we were seated, someone came fairly soon to take our order, but she rattled off the specials so quickly, without even looking at us, that neither of us was able to understand her. Then she swept off with only one drink order, not waiting for my companion to give his order. When the food came, it was beautifully plated and hot. My friend had the diver scallops, which were large, but there were only three. They were accompanied by vegetable risotto. The flavor and quality of his food was excellent, there just should have been more scallops. I had chicken parmesan, which was served with angel hair pasta. It was fine; nothing special. Both meals were accompanied by salad, and there was fresh bread for the table, but it was only four small slices.
My companion had a glass of wine, which was reasonably priced and good. I got a cappuccino, which was a disappointment, as it was really only regular coffee with cream and a thin layer of foam on top, rather than espresso with a good measure of foam, which is what I expect when I order a cappuccino. It was not expensive, though - only slightly more expensive than a regular cup of coffee, so I didn't complain. Prices for the food were reasonable. A bit pricey, but not out of line for an elegant lunch.
All in all, I would go back again, if only for the beauty and ambiance. But their service was negligent and the food just acceptable. It might be better during dinner hours, when there are more customers in the place.
We've lived within a mile or two of the Jarrettown Hotel for most of our lives, and in its current incarnation, it is really a neighborhood gem. Everyone DOES know your name, and the food is outstanding. We're there for dinner, sometimes for New Year's Eve, for business lunches, you name it. When the weather is good, the outside dining can't be beat. No steps to go in, making it easy for those who have issue navigating steps, and the food never disappoints. Quite the opposite!
While the Jarrettown has always been a great place for a good meal. I, unfortunately cannot recommend visiting this restaurant during the winter months. The evening we went was chilly. There was a cold breeze coming through the dining room all night long. We mentioned to the waitress several times how cold the room was. There was a thermostat in the room, but no one ever touched it. The people at the table next to us mentioned the coldness a few times as well. Nothing was done to accommodate us. No customer should have to wear their coat during their meal.
We are frequent diners at the Jarrettown and this is the first time I would say we were disappointed. Our server was not what we have come to experience at the Jarrettown. She was rather abrupt. The staff at the front desk told part of our party of 4 that if they weren’t willing to be seated right away (which was before our reservation time) then we would lose our table. I hope this was just an off night for the Jarrettown. The food was very good as usual but the service definitely diminished the experience.
Been meaning to go back for some time and it did not disappoint. Special kudos to Candace, our server, who was friendly, efficient and professional. Food was very good.
Took us a minute or two to figure out that entrance was in the rear, so I would recommend basic signage from the parking lot to address that issue.
I do no understand why this place isn't packed! We each ordered the daily special. I had a spicy
pasta with seafood which was out of this world and my husband had the fish of the day. Some how I received an email with a discount coupon and we tried this place on a whim. What a happy find! We will be back and I am going to recommend this place to my friends.
We have eaten dinner there quite a few times. Everything we have had has been very good. Service is always professional and friendly. My wife had the crab cakes and I had the grouper. Both were very good and fresh and good sized portions. Always a great meal .
I was very disappointed in our evening. I read many good reviews on line, therefore was extremely disappointed with our selection of restaurant for the evening. First, check in was very chaotic. There was no one running the hostess area. We waiting about 10 minutes in line just to get someone to talk to us (we had reservations). There was general confusion over who was supposed to be waiting our table once we were seated. Bread was brought to the table, then our appetizer, then oil for the bread and then our drinks. Literally all in that order and not quickly. Again, just general confusion. As for the meals, there was nothing awful, but also nothing great about the meals. For the price, it was very underwhelming. I would not recommend this restaurant and I certainly would not return. I will say that our waitress seemed to be doing her best and was pleasant, but it seems as if the restaurant was being poorly run, understaffed and again, the food was nothing special at all.
