Japonais Bistro Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Japonais Bistro twice . Both times the food was exquisite, and the presentation was lovely. While the servers were friendly and warm, the actual service was very slow. I felt the timing of the dishes brought out was poor in that both dishes (main and dessert) for me were brought out first and my friend still had to wait another several minutes for hers. I would highly recommend JB if you can afford the time.
This is our goto place for sushi and everything Japanese cuisine. Top quality food. Everything on the menu is delicious. Excellent choices. Great friendly staff. Hello kitty is the best fruity drink on the menu!! The pressed hamachi and salmon sushi is amazing. Highly recommend tuna tacos for those raw tuna lovers. My goto appy.
Disappointing. This restaurant used to be a go-to for me, but the prices have skyrocketed and the portions have shrunk dramatically. They installed heated bidet toilet seats in the ladies' room and seem to be trying to seem like a higher-class place just by increasing prices and decreasing portions. The food isn't even as good as it used to be. I wore my jacket through dinner because it was freezing in there. The tuna tataki is now tiny, the wagyu beef is gristly, and the rolls are drenched in sauce. A glass of plum wine costs what a whole meal used to cost. We spent about $100 for two (plus paid street parking) and left hungry. We went across the street to On the Rocks after dinner, and ate again. The service at Japonais is ~okay~ (they're often understaffed) and the seats are relatively comfortable, and the music is quiet. If you don't mind freezing when it's cold outside then it's an ok place to take a date, but be prepared for a bill that isn't proportional to what you got. If you're looking for a nice date restaurant with good food that's worth the price, consider Louisiana Purchase instead.
Usually the food and services are excellent...but the service definitely not so good this time. The services are slow and we have to wait for our food longer than usual; in addition we were seated directly faced to the door (which we requested to change to another one while there were still so many before the rush hour but were declined) so I have to wear my down jacket most of the dining time as it's cold every five minutes when other customers opened the door walking in or out. Our tea not even hot or warm for us as the tea turned out cold so quick.
This is our favourite sushi place! It is a little on the expensive side but worth every penny! Our waitress was great, she gave recommendations on the food and wine. We had the hot stone waygu beef and it literally melted in your mouth. We had the sockeye salmon sashimi and it was so fresh. Then we had three sushi rolls - the double (boyfriend's favourite), pressed salmon (my favourite) and the rainbow roll (delicious). I can't wait to go back! Nothing compares to this place!
Always fresh and good! Tonight we loved the spicy mango prawns, a sushi plate, black truffle rolls, tuna nachos and a few other dishes. All tasty ! The service was great and it was quite quiet this evening which is slightly unusual. I recommend reservations for the weekend. One of the best Japanese restaurant in Edmonton. Enjoy!
