Japengo - Waikiki Ratings and Reviews
The food was delicious and the service was great. We were there for a birthday dinner and were sat in a private room in the front. Our waiter was very attentive. We had someone with a food allergy and he took the time to bring out the chef to ensure that she was able to eat what she wanted. I had the filet mignon and it was tender and melted in your mouth.
Appetito is still in their soft opening. They do not yet have their pizza oven operational, so we ordered from the rest of the menu. We had the bacon-wrapped dates appetizer, the hanger steak, and the half chicken. The food was good, but my partner needed salt and pepper for his chicken. Service was attentive. The staff seem to have established a good routine - their were no issues with speed of service, getting the order right, or other issues we've seen in new restaurants.
Just got engaged. The food was amazing, The drinks could be a little larger. Ordered a couple martinis and they were about two drinks. Being a newly engaged couple thought mabe a bottle of champagne would be on the house... there were alot of open tables and a couple was sat right next to us. Kinda wanted a little privacy. The food was amazing
We're loyal customers of Japengo for many years now. We loved the lobster with the sweet chili sauce, truly unique and none like it on the island. The New York strip was very tender coupled with small potatoes. The staff was very attentive and treated us like royalty. Can't wait for the next Japengo experience.
Sorry first post was wrong restaurant the stars here should be no more than 4 but i cant changr it. Japengo has changed since it first opened. We suspect new owners as menu much more limited. Food was still very tasty and fresh but the.choice compared to a few years ago was limited. Service good but not great. Wines etc good but not great. Ambience changed too but similar. Good.but.not great. We might go back but to walk all that way there are better options cost and quality wise
I've dined year many times over the years, when in town on business. Always a wonderful and unique experience. Love the tasting menu options. Dishes always have wonderful presentation. Very nice wine selection. Above all, the staff are top-notch: They take time to get to know you, they're knowledgeable of and candid about the full menu, very attentive and accommodating, and I can tell they work well as a team to ensure all customers are well-served.
Called World of Hyatt a month before to confirm if I could use Hyatt gold passport points towards dining at Japengo, even if not staying overnight and was told it was ok. Just so I can be 100% certain, I sent an email to the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager who confirmed that this was ok too. Unfortunately the staff was not able to redeem my points and I had to pay the $300+ bill using my credit card. Felt misled and disappointed as I did my due diligence to ensure that I can use points so that there are no surprises. Not a good way to end a night where we were celebrating a special occasion
It was our first time there and we booked on a whim. Always listed for steaks and good reviews so we decided to try this place. We loved our time there from beginning to end. Surprisingly not too busy for typical off food served. It is like a hidden gem that has yet to be discovered. The food was great. We had the tomahawk ribeye for two and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked. The service was great and staff were friendly. We will be back.
We chose Japengo Waikiki as we had so enjoyed Japengo Maui. Unfortunately the menu was completely different and very much an over priced affair. The restaurant is dowdy and there are so many superior restaurants close by that we were disappointed all round.
The service was great, ambiance wonderful, but quality of food, mediocre. The ahi poke did not taste fresh and was incredibly small. The salmon entree was generous in size but mundane. The filet of beef and lobster was not flavorful nor worth $75 for the dish. Our server was great and manager table-touched and was very pleasant, but will not be back nor will direct friends to go there.
We started with a salad that was big enough to share and made with very fresh produce. I loved the Miso Salmon dish I ordered - the salmon was cooked perfectly and the flavor was delicious. My husband thought his red snapper was bland but when I tasted it, I thought it was very flavorful. The service was very attentive. The dining area has low light for ambiance but not so low you couldn't see your menu or food. I recommend trying this restaurant.
