Fabulous restaurant. Delicious food! We were vacationing with friends.
Great from the time we entered through out dinner. Very professional staff. Food was excellent!
Wonderful as expected! Tried the seafood pancake and it blew our minds, so pleased. Crisp and crunchy outside, creamy and delicious inside with a beautiful seafood filling. i would order it again without hesitation as well as the Alaskan black cod with a teriyaki cream sauce, pair those with the ocean wakame salad, a seaweed salad with a nice crunch and some good sake and it’s a visit to food paradise!
I don’t understand (nor recommend) the practice of) having a small round table set up where the wait staff kept loudly plunking dirty dishes - located right behind our table for two and right behind my daughter. It’s unsightly and jarring. Also when I was seated and trying to order my first drink, our waitress basically said to hold on before she would take our drink order until she brought us water.
Loved the flight of sake. Food was delish.
Thanks for listening
Sushi was great but expensive. Appetizers small portion and very expensive. Service was amazing. Our server forgot to put in my daughter's kappa maki roll order (which was no big deal) and she apologized a few times and gave us a delicious free dessert! She was very attentive to our table and came and checked in on us quite a few times. Beautiful view/scenery and the kids menu was perfect.
It’s was overrated. Drinks did it taste that good. Too sweet. Get off the hotel and eat on another location.
exceptional food and service, wonderful view. we had a chilled antinori chianti, fabulous.
Freezing cold by the hurricane winds made our experience one to forget. Given a lovely spot for six at the end point. Most romantic on a nice night. Last night was a waste of $320.
The food was good, but the soup and coffee were lukewarm and the service was distant and pushy. Not a good experience for a pricy restaurant.
We ate here several times on our recent Maui vacation. We had a business dinner, a family dinner and a date at Japengo. All were delicious. We noticed at 2 of the dinners they seemed under staffed. The waitress would go get us something and seemed to forget. My soup was delivered after my sushi. The live music was great, the sushi was wonderful. We highly recommend the chocolate lava cake, it's to die for! Another reason we liked this ace is because it wasn't like the mediocre tourist food you can get down the walkway at Whalers Village.
We had a great meal with wonderful atmosphere. The service was good and the view was spectacular!
Shared several dishes and was beyond satisfied with each one. Great views, service and food.
The food was ok and the service was very good. The first booth they sat us in had torn seats and the table we moved to had a sticky surface due to the weather.
Vacation family dinner
Service was subpar. We have been to japengo many times and found the service to be horrendous. The manger was condescending and uncareing that it took well over an hour to get our entrees. They gave a discount on the meal but no real explanation or seemingly sincere apology. Bummer when u come her once a year. Won’t be back. 🤦🏻♀️
My Waiter was Jun he was very nice. He also had some good suggestions he told me if I wanted to try a few different items that they can do half portions. Over all the food was outstanding. I tried the chef special sushi roll which was da bomb.
Very pretty restaurant. Service was amazing. There’s a lively bar area that looked fun. Would love to come back.
We loved all of the appetizers that we ordered - hamchi/watermelon, black cod misoyaki, specialty sushi roll, miso soup. The entrées were pricey and not as delicious as the appetizers.
We really liked that several entree’s and appetizers could be ordered in half portions so we could try several things on the menu. Our waiter was outstanding.
Awesome everything as usual.
Fantastic food and service. A must if you are in Kaanapali
Vacation in Maui,
Excellent sushi and unique fish presentations, we have eaten at many fish places and this was a fantastic change, pricy but worth it compared to the same same Mahi everywhere else.
The view and ambience are exceptional. The downside was that our server was incredibly rude and it was abundantly obvious that either he has been in his profession too long and is burned out or truly does not care about enhancing the experience of guests by answering questions in a friendly or professional manner. When simply asked about his opinion on two dishes his response was a curt, “You want me to decide for you, because I can decide for you if that’s what you want.” The other down side was that while both of our children’s dishes were warm when served, my husband and I ordered the special at $60 for the entree and it was served cold. Other than the comments above, the sushi and rolls were delicious, and had our entree been warm and if we had a professional server it would have been a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, this was not the case. At this price point I expect exceptional if not at least friendly service.
Outdoor patio was amazing. Awesome view! Honolulu roll was the highlight. In fact we liked all the sushi tremendously. When on Maui we would most definitely return.
We had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time. At one point the hostess tried to convince us to sit out in the open seating area because we were so annoyed. Then the food was terrible. The chef’s special literally tasted like tuna fish out of a can! The only good thing we ordered was the tuna tar tar starter. The waitress was terrible and very inattentive. I do not recommend at all!
Great service, amazing ocean views and very flavorful Asian cuisine. There is a full drink menu with amazing outdoor seating for pre dinner cocktails and appetizers.
Fish was fresh, steaks were also good.
Great food and service. Always enjoy going there. Fish was very fresh.
This place has really gone down hill. The waiter was very unhelpful on sushi recommendations. We love sushi yet The chief choice was disgusting.
Great food, atmosphere, and service! Definitely worth the price. Our sever Jeff was absolutely amazing! Friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly genuine.
Awesome food, service and views! Had a great meal.
The food was yummy & the service was adequate but not warm or friendly at all. The view is spectacular!
The views here are amazing. I'm not sure if there's a bad place to be seated. The service is slow and unattentive. I believe our server had a giant party sat after her few small dining area tables. So we all just keep talking to each other like, hey hows looking at your dessert going?! Sucks you can't eat it without any silverware! Luckily the food was delicious and flavorful.
Service was not at all what you would expect for a highly priced restaurant. Food was ok. Way overpriced for what it is. Nothing about the experience was worth the cost.
Chef special truly amazing. Swordfish topped with a lobster tail. To die for.
A little drizzle of rain had us changing our table and taking dessert to go . Milton chocolate cake.. doesn’t pack well.
Overall .. a very special dinner.
Best sushi we have ever had! And the dessert was wonderful too.
Service was ok not great but ok
The food was AMAZING! I grew up here on Maui and to have Chow Fun and Fried Rice made with with such care was absolutely mind blowing. Our server, Desiree, was so kind and made us feel like ‘Ohana. The service was great! The malasadas were soo Ono and the 1/2 serving portions were surprisingly huge! Will definitely come here again.
Everything was lovely & delicious!! The service was gracious & efficient, dishes delicious, and wine well chilled. The view is fantastic!
I just want to say that my boyfriend really enjoyed his birthday here. It was our first time and it was so worth it. It was intimate, it was relaxed (did not feel rushed)c and the service was fantastic. My favorites dish was the blackened ahi sushi roll OMG!!!! I think I could eat like 5 dishes of it. I surprised my boyfriend with this and he had a smile on the whole time. Every food bite we both rolled our eyes back! Omg! Wow! Our busses Jerry was so awesome! Our sever, local guy, didn’t rush us and made us feel comfortable. Please go here and enjoy the scenery and food. Definitely going there again! Thank you!
We have always loved this restaurant for its beautiful view and serenity; we have been staying at the Hyatt for years. Although it was not entirely the staff's fault because the number of available tables was limited due to high winds and the possibility of rain, we were seated in a room with several large parties, and the noise level was unbearable! It entirely ruined our dining experience and truly ruined our memories of this very special place. We made a reservation well in advance and, as we were leaving, saw that they had seated other couples outside. Unfortunately, despite the fact that we were a middle aged couple of two, the hostess chose to seat us in a room with several large groups in their 20s who were drinking and speaking very loudly! When the weather is nice and you are seated outside, I would still recommend but I would never go back if the wind covers are down. If you do, ask to be reseated immediately if you are not happy. I wish that we had done so!
