Great views overlooking the Hyatt's pool and beach. We ordered a sushi roll and fried rice and both were delicious. Very quiet and romantic.

The sunset the night we dined here could not have been more perfect for the beautiful setting of this restaurant. The food and drinks were some of the very best we have had on Maui. We are always sure to come to Japengo each time we come to this island. It is a special treat. The food is always fresh and delicious and the setting simply can’t be beat.

Our waitress Kathleen was wonderful! The best waitress on our entire trip. Food was absolutely delicious. Had reservation for sunset and it was gorgeous. Nice ambiance & highly recommend.

The sauce they use for the steak is absolutely incredible!

Amazing how Covid has lowered nearly everyone's standards. I should have been informed we would be sitting outside on lawn furniture that has seen better days for my wife's 50th birthday. Shrimp way undercooked (still opaque) so was the fish. Jeff was excellent though. Jeff aside, you guys can do better.

One of the best on the island.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.

The manager ruined son and mom birthday celebration. She doesn’t have the qualities of a good manager. She set our reservation of 2 tables of 6 and 1table for 2 but give us separate waiter separate bill Instead of 1 check, the service was off that night. My son brought a ice cream cake for me and ask if they could store in the freezer and they took it, minute later they return it and the manager said sorry we can’t store in the kitchen because of Covid, her solution is give us a chair to store the cake. The whole dinner was awful. Lucky my guest had Bobby as their waiter & he’s great but everyone felt the bad vibes.

We always visit Japengo in Maui and are never disappointed. Great service, great food, great view! Try the Abunai Rita, Spicy 🌶 goodness!

Our waiter Bobby was great. He was friendly and helpful. He is an asset to your hotel. The sushi was very good. Everyone were totally happy with the entire experience.

We came to celebrate the anniversary.
We were given the table close to the kitchen with no view.
I asked to change the table and explained that I did the reservation more then a month in advance but received very negative response that no other table available. But they had many free tables that they saved for someone else.
Very poor service and bad host but food is good.

We loved the view and the service. The food was delicious, the filet mignon was perfectly rare, and the Ka’anapali Spritzer was my favorite drink of the week. Tho $25 for a sushi roll with salmon and tuna is pretty steep, even if it was beautiful to look at. The one knock I’d give the restaurant was that oddly, the tables were too high for the low chairs they paired with. I felt like a child at the adult table. Even my 6’4” husband said he was sitting too low to eat properly.

We were honestly disappointed in the quality of the entrees we ordered, especially considering the prices. The beef wasn’t sourced locally, so it seems like they drowned the filet in a sauce to cover it up. The grilled scallops were just ok, not melt in your mouth delicious like I was hoping for being so close to the source. The spicy edamame was pretty good at least. When we make it back to Maui, this restaurant will not be on our list to visit.

Delicious and will visit again! Fresh sushi melts in your mouth and the ribs as well were tender! Friendly, attentive and courteous waiter who made you feel at home!

Very pleasant experience as always. Service was considerate and food was outstanding! We ate too much as usual! But it was all worth it!

Great place if you like fish. Beautiful ambiance. In the past they had more vegetarian options. Bring back the upcountry curry! Expensive but good.

Ah, Japengo...thank you for reopening and keeping your guests happy and healthy. Japengo always dishes up the amazing oceanside view of Lanai island, terrific food ( the Korean pancake is to die for) and the best service. We were delighted to be with Carrie again, as she always remembers us, is so gracious and friendly, and helps assure us getting a great table and perfectly taking our orders and bringing them to us exactly when we need them. A hui ho, Japengo...see you again soon!

Hostess was awful, sat us in an are that seemed like an overflow area. Waitress was slow and seemed inexperienced. Knew little about the menu. We had been recommended to this restaurant and were so extremely disappointed. We had originally made two reservations and canceled the second one after our first night dining here. Very sad.

The view over the point for sunset is unbeatable! Even better were the humpback whales! The food is always so delicious and the service is amazing!! We loved Bobby as our server! Top of the line.

Beautiful setting & great service. My only complaint is that we made the mistake of ordering 2 appetizers and then we were full, so we weren’t able to try the rest of the menu. The Korean pancakes were delicious but extremely filling. More like a seafood pizza. This appetizer is enough for 4. Also a very generous portion of the hoisin glazed ribs. Delicious but just too heavy for an appetizer. Our mistake. Otherwise the setting is beautiful and the drinks on point. Next time we will go straight to the entrees. Will definitely visit again.

Japengo was good food. The sushi was much more food than the typical sushi restaurant. The fried rice was fantastic. Kinda bummed that I had made a reservation a couple days in advance hoping we’d get good seating and they stuck us in the restaurant and not out on the open part facing the ocean.

Had the best pork chop I have ever had! If it weren't so expensive maybe my husband and I wouldn't have to share!

Japengo has changed since Covid. It is only open Thursday-Saturday for dinner so make a reservation. It is a busy place. They no longer have a happy hour but that is OK. The food is always tasty and wonderful!!!

The food was just okay..hoping for outstanding sushi but didn’t deliver.

Watching the sunset over the channel between Maui and Lanai is enough. But pair that with wonderful sushi, drinks, and excellent service and you have a magical experience. Make a reservation as it will be crowded

Had the steak was very good. Not overly impressed with service. Expensive. Especially the drinks!

Overall experience was great. We were required to wear masks even when seat which was more strict than anywhere on the island. I would wait until a better program is out in place as that significantly reduces the enjoyment of sitting and relaxing during the dinner
