Japango Sushi Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I always take my daughter to Sushi when I visit her at school. We've tried several different Sushi restaurants and Hapa has always been our go-to. This was our first time at Japengos, and even with high excpecy, we were wonderfully surprised by how good their Sushi was! The rolls were light and all ingredients were fresh. Japengos is particular with using only fresh ingredients which is so delightful to the palette. Their unusual mix of ingredients make their dishes pop with flavor! Service was timely and very friendly. This is by far our favorite in Boulder!!
My spouse and I took an out-of-town guest to dinner here and we were very happy with the service, food, and decor. It was a Wednesday so shrimp and salmon sushi were discounted and they were fresh and flavorful. I ordered the Japango and Denali maki and they were delicious. We also shared fried tofu for first and I highly recommend it - crisp on the outside (and not oily) and creamy on the inside. We had green tea creme brulee and sticky toffee cake with ice cream, and both were delicious.
Japango never disappoints. The sushi is fresh, the cocktails are creative and the atmosphere is lively. Occasionally during busy times the sushi bar gets backed up, so if you're in a hurry go elsewhere.
The Pearl St. Mall location makes for interesting people watching as well as shopping opportunities before/after the meal.
While the atmosphere and decor were great, and most of the food was very good, the service left a lot to be desired. Sat for at least 15 minutes before we even got menus, then sat for another 10 minutes before drink orders were taken. Food was slow to come out and one meal came after everyone else was just about done. No little appetizers and freebies were offered while we were waiting ( a bowl of endamame would have gone a long way). Waters were not replenished without asking. Most of the food was really good once it did arrive, but the Lobster Dumplings were a big disappointment (very small portion and not very flavorful). All-in-all it was a nice dinner but with all the great sushi places in the area that have much better prices and service, it's unlikely I'll be back.
We were on a stay-cation weekend in Boulder and made a reservation for some sushi at Japango. We arrived and had to wait a few minutes for a table - no big deal. Then we were seated at the table directly next to the bathroom. In fact my chair was blocking the bathroom hallway.
I asked to be moved and they moved us to a slightly better two top.
We waited, and waited, for our server who eventually came by to take our order. She was very nice but not too attentive. Dinner took much longer than expected and getting the bill was a challenge.
Overall the experience was okay. The rolls were very good but everything else, including service, was mediocre.
I was surprised to see there were still reservations available on a Friday evening , so I made one on our way to the restaurant. It was a good call because the restaurant filled to capacity a few minutes after we arrived.
The food was good but the sushi took a ridiculous amount of time and it wasn't until it was delivered that our waitress told us to Sushi kitchen was backed up. I understand restaurants get busy on the weekends but a heads up from our server prior to waiting 35 minutes would have been nice...
Probably at least my 20th visit to Japango. Our meal was great, as usual.
Our waitress, Holly, was attentive, but not hovering. She was very pleasant and patiently answered all of our questions about the menu.
The food was creatively prepared and presented. One delicious item after the other.
The atmosphere is classy, but comfortable. The only restaurant i know where you can pick out your choice of jellyfish from a beautiful tank, right next to your table. JUST KIDDING! The jellyfish tank is fascinating and beautiful, but it's only for looking at them swim around.
We LOVE Japango! Our favorite Japanese restaurant in Boulder. I've NEVER tried a dish I didn't love! I highly recommend Japango for friendly service, delicious food and great ambiance!
The food was great, but we were disappointed by the service. We went for a birthday, and had brought a cake. We were told at the end of the meal that if we wanted to eat our own cake we would have to pay a "cake cutting fee" of $12...$12!!! That was the cost of the entire cake. I could maybe understand $4 or $5 but $12? Give me a break. We will never go back for any special occasion in the future.
Sashimi was nice but rolls were disappointing. Sashimi were nice cuts. We ordered four premium rolls which are $15+ per order and they lacked flavor, due to a lot of rice and little fish. The cocktails were disappointing. They are trying too hard to infuse flavors that ruin the drink. I would not go back. Plenty of other sushi places with better taste.
