Lovely lunch at this location on a beautiful sunny day in White Rock.
Worst food in White Rock
Service was good but not enough to overcome bad food
We had a meal that was not very good. We have been to Jan’s before....and thought we would try it again. We had a Taste of White Rock offering that featured scallops wrapped in smoked ham/prosciutto. The meat overpowered the scallops....and the scallops were overdone to the point of being dry. It was such a massive mistake that it soured the evening. We really want th beach restaurants to succeed....and give them all at least a couple of chances...however...this was such a miss that I doubt we would return on our own.
A lovely way to spend an evening with friends. Attentive service.
I picked the restaurant based on the Taste Of White Rock featured menu. It looked amazing. My friend and I had a 6:30pm seating time for a Saturday nite. The baby shrimp and roasted veggie stuffed trout I had planned to order was already sold out this early in the evening. Extremely disappointing. The chicken dish we end up ordering my friend didn't like, and we both thought the spaetzle was tastless and a very mushy texture. The waitress was friendly but seemed bit inexperienced. Asking if we're ready for bill before we had even gotten our dessert which was part of the 3 course meal and not asking if we wanted coffee or tea either with the dessert.
Overall we both weren't impressed.
Jan and her staff always serve up an excellant meal and making the experience enjoyable!
Jan’s is my favorite White Rock/South Surrey restaurant. This small restaurant has great food and excellent service. And if you need Gluten-Free options, there is no place better in the Vancouver area—you can even order GF fish and chips, what a treat. Ambiance is great with a charming European bistro flare and original art on the walls. Attention to detail is evident in quality ingredients, and thoughtful service, right down to individual cloth towels in the powder room. Moderate prices, not at all expensive, and a super waterfront location in White Rock near the Pier. Highly recommend for get together with friends and couples dining. I have ate there as a single as well and was perfectly welcomed.
We go here often. Food is awesome chefs cook in the open and are flexible for special requirements. No Prima Donna. Recommend it for anytime especially because it is not chain store.
We had a wonderful evening celebrating my hubby's birthday at Jan's. The food never disappoints and Jan and her staff make you feel welcome. Always consider a special as they try out new ideas that have been a wonderful taste experience.
The halibut special and the Moroccan lamb chops were absolutely delicious! The accompanying risotto was to die for! We enjoyed the service and the view as well. We'll definitely be back.
My friend and I hadn't seen each other for a few months, so decided to go to Jan's for a catch-up visit. My friend had a gorgeous salad and I had the baked brie. Everything was delicious, our table was on the patio, and the sun blessed us with warmth! We both loved it and will be going back to Jan's! It's a gourmet experience 👍❤🌞 Sorry, we didn't take pictures.
They do not book with Open Table anymore so they did not have our reservation. Luckily they were able to fit us in. Not sure why we were able to make a reservation with them on Open Table if they're not using it.
Online booking took about 16 hours to get confirmation email
I was turned away for very odd reasons. The hostess told me my name wasn't in the reservation list. There was a lot of tables open but she still turned us away stating there it would take at least 40 min until she would serve us. She was blonde with a gap tooth I believe.
My wife's meal she said was excellent she had the sea food linguine it had lots of sea food in it . I had the ribs they were made by Jan( not pre made out sourced ) and she has a yummy rib sauce. The ribs were over cooked on a couple end pieces but overall were good. The view was amazing and the staff were friendly. We asked for a very specific table for our reservation and when we got there they had exactly what we asked for.. Thx Jan and staff we had a very nice time
We used to go to another restaurant down the street. It unfortunately closed.
Jan's is great and really nice replacement. Glad we walked in. Looking forward to dinner in the summer on the patio.
Jan's was a gamble for me to take my wife for a date. Neither of us had heard of it before, but it was worth going to.
We knew that White Rock was a more casual area to eat, because of the beach and tourist traffic, so we dressed appropriately.
There was an extensive glutten-free menu, andI don't even know if my order was glutten free; but, it was very tasty and well presented.
The open kitchen was nice to see, and the atmosphere was very friendly, as was the staff.
Jan and her staff are a wonderful team who work to ensure your meal meets expectations. Very flexible and adaptable to accommodate food allergies and ensure you still have a very tasty meal.
Jan's is an incredible find, the food is great and the service out of this world. Never felt rushed or left wanting. The scallops are (WOW), Great craft beer and local wine selection. I will be back
Food took a while to serve but tasted great. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Awesome vibes.
Not the best experience her
I was excited to try the gluten free fish and chips but was a bit disappointed. The meal was fresh and hot but lacked flavour. I would go back to try other gluten free items though.
The staff is terrific and attentive. The food is absolutely outstanding. it's creative and perfectly prepared. Everything is made from scratch. The ambiance is really nice, perfect for a high quality, intimate dining experience. A hidden treasure.
Jan always has the best gluten free anywhere! I've been to a lot of restaurants that say they have gluten free. Jan tops them all!
Tried the pulled pork sandwich - it was yummy. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Jan's on the Beach is a cozy little restaurant on the main "restaurant row" in White Rock. Jan tries to use locally sourced products as much as possible and has a great wine list showcasing different BC wineries. We were there on a Wednesday night so it was very quiet but that allowed us to easily converse, and it is their wine special night. The open kitchen is very small, but it is enjoyable to watch the chefs do their thing. Great food, service and value.
Eating at this restaurant was the highlight of our recent trip to Canada for a weekend get-away! The food and service were excellent.
Great food, great service, great music....thanks really enjoyed the evening!
Jan's wonderful dishes (we had a seafood crepe and clam chowder with a grilled cheese with onion and bacon) and Jessica's impeccable service make eating out a wonderful event.
The chef served us! We were warm at the outside seating even on a stormy night. Great food. Very accommodating with food sensitivities.
I took my 12 year old daughter here for the gluten free fish and chips. - little bit pricy but good sized portions. The batter was crisp, not greasy and had a hint of pepper. Very good!
Nice and quiet
Lovely place to spend a rainy day brunch at .
Jan's is always great! Location right on the beach with a beautiful view. Food is outstanding and prepared in the kitchen right next to your table. Lots of gluten free options available. Including gf fish and chips.
the other guests had fantastic meals. However, my steak was tough and pretty tasteless. But great thanks to the staff for accommodating the many food exception requests.
Jan and Jessica make an evening meal a pleasure.
An out of town friend and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Jan's. We had a beautiful patio table with a great view of the water. Our server was extremely attentive and personable. Food was very nicely presented and cooked to perfection. I don't think I've ever had a chicken dish I enjoyed more. Although the atmosphere is quite casual and maybe not quite what you would be looking for if it was a quiet, cozy atmosphere you wanted. I would definitely come back and recommend to others.
Enjoyed our lunch of salad and halibut. I did find the halibut a bit dry, perhaps over cooked.
This was quite possibly the best eggs benny I've ever had! Very cute spot for brunch !
Wonderful food, great service, spectacular beach front dining. White Rock at its best.
