It was great. I think Jane could use more options on the menu. Service was great
Our waiter Matthew was excellent...attentive but not obtrusive. We arrived about 6:30- were immediately seated and offered menus and drinks. The food was fantastic- fresh and perfectly prepared. The restaurant filled and got noisier but it felt convivial and not too loud. The peach pie was delicious. Best dinner out in a long time!
Three couples. We really enjoyed the food. Onion rings for the table. I had chicken piccata. Delicious. Our group seemed to all enjoy as well.
Very pleasant saying with good food which was well prepared. There was a nice selection of both food and wines. It is located on State Street but away from the beach and traffic. We were staying nearby so we walked so we can not comment on parking. Save room for dessert.
The whole experience was great. Our server was very attentive and gave us great recommendations, the food and drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere is very nice. Will definitely be back
Jane's is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Barbara for both the ambiance, the service, and the food. It is right on State Street and many people eat there before the theater. I love it most in the winter when the fireplace is warm and cozy. To start our meal, my husband ordered his favorite dish-the goat cheese pancakes-and I got the wedge salad. Both dishes were amazing. The lettuce was crisp and nicely chilled, and had an amazing blue cheese dressing topped with fresh bacon. The goat cheese pancakes are thin and topped salmon and creme fraiche. For dinner we split the chicken picatta which was amazing. The chicken was sliced very thin. and cooked perfectly. It was crisp but not dry and It came with fetticini, and some lightly sauteed fresh vegetables. They do charge $5 if you want the chef to split the dish, but will also bring you an extra plate for free. Jane's always has some nice wines by the glass to sip on and of course a killer cocunut cake for dessert. All that and our bill was still under $100. Janes is a great little date night gem!
Has gone down hill. Safeway french bread. Almost like eating at Carrows.
A great restaurant where we had a wonderful and relaxing lunch - food presentation was professional and food extremely delicious. The ambience of the restaurant was chic but casual and the service provided by both hostess & waitress were friendly, informative and totally professional . I highly recommend this fun and moderately priced restaurant.
The food was very good and just the right amounts. The Jane sundae was incredible missed the coconut cake! We are from out of town and are glad we choose it!
For years, one of our favorite restaurants was the Montecito Cafe. We were sad to hear it had closed. Then we heard about Jane which is owned by the same people. We finally got to try it last week and we were NOT disappointed... in fact we were thrilled with our dining experience! What a gem!! Location, ambiance, service, food were all top notch. And to top it off, they have coconut cake🤗 We will be back for sure!
We had a lovely table on the balcony and the food and service were great... The pairings of wine suggested on the menu was perfect. We had a lovey date and enjoyed our experience very much. Everyone should start their concert night at Jane!
Always love dining at Jane. While the main room can get noisy the upstairs balcony is perfect! Service is excellent and the food divine. One of my favorite local restaurants.
Our meal was delicious! Everything from the sangria, to the calamari, and our dessert was absolutely amazing. I would definitely come back!
Well, dining experience was okay, but not impressive or memorable as had been in the past. Appreciated the friendly nonintrusive service from the server, and the entrees were good, but not great. The salmon plate came out looking ‘sad’- with the small piece of fish served on the small cedar plank section, accompanied by a very small portion of cooked zucchini and carrot ‘sticks’, and five small slices of scalloped potatoes.
The salmon tasted good with the mango salsa, but the meal was just not very satisfying, especially given the price. Given the many restaurant choices in downtown Santa Barbara not sure that we’ll be back anytime soon.
Loved the goat cheese pancakes with smoked salmon! The molotes were a little dry. More sauce would have helped.
Coconut cake with creame anglaise my fav was delicious! Waiter very good!
Great evening before forgettable opera!
An amazing meal and the service was impeccable. Such a gorgeous view from the outdoor balcony area upstairs!
Cute place but something missing. We waited more than 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us standing there. It was very quiet and not busy. Food was ok but nothing remarkable. Our server wasn’t very friendly but not rude either. That sums up our experience...not bad but not great. Definitely didn’t feel warm and inviting. Maybe just an off night.
Cute and cozy place. Servers were good but a bit overwhelmed as it was busy. Caesar salad not great. Beet salad was flavorful. Chicken piccata was very buttery and rich but delicious. My husband had the duck and also enjoyed. Best thing by far was the warm blueberry cobbler served a la mode for dessert.
Our daughters birthday but no special treatment was given. Waitress seem to be rushed to turn our table. Mediocre experience and will not be returning
The food at Jane was outstanding! The service was the best. Our waitress was cheerful and efficient. Highly recommend for lunch.
We celebrated our 50th and 51st wedding anniversary at Jane!! It is our favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara when we visit the city! The food and service never disappoint!!!
Average food. unimaginative salad. Server not attentive to gluten free requests. Beautiful environment but wouldn’t go back just for that
Love the restaurant but as we age kinda noisy. The stairs are a little much at this time of our lives.
As always food excellent, service as well. Haley did a great job.
We came from Seattle for an event on Saturday July 20, a friend flew in from Austria, I chose Janes as it had a nice menus of American food for my friend to choose from.
The fish stew here is unbelievable, possibly the best dish I’ve ever eaten. My date had the local sea bass special and can’t stop talking about how perfect it was. Our deserts were their amazing coconut cake(like an angel delivered to earth)and seasonal cobbler. Unbelievably fantastic with a great wine list for any taste.
First and foremost I am not sure why they offer "outdoor" seating as an option, when there is simply one tiny table in front of the restaurant on the actual sidewalk?? Beautiful restaurant and great service, I was just really disappointed by the menu - very confused mix of Italian and Mediterranean foods/dishes and not terribly well executed...I have to admit I was disappointed.
Delicious home cooked meal! Loved the sauces, freshness, and flavors. Are up on the balcony on a summer evening. Delightful.
The Veal Marsala is excellent! Service was very good. Jane is a lovely and romantic restaurant right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. I visit Jane on every trip to SB.
The good: Swordfish and Halibut were great...tender and very well-prepared. Flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce was excellent finish.
The bad: The server made no eye-contact with me, and for some reason re-filled my wife’s water but not mine (nor asked), she also brought check before we asked and before we finished. The bread was not fresh-baked nor even warmed. The balcony seating we anticipated enjoying outside was far too cramped (narrow) for us to be comfortable so we switched to downstairs.
Service usually terrific.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
We have been going to Jane for years, the last few times have been somewhat a disappointment for one reason or another.
As for this visit, I made reservations in advance to celebrate my wife's birthday which the hostess confirmed.
In the past, they would have a table reserved with a Birthday Sign and serve a small dessert after dinner.
This time no sign, we even ordered dessert and there was no birthday candle or acknowledgment of her birthday at all.
Also, the menu changed a while back and recently an item from the "Vegetarian" menu, in which you have to ask for, The Baked Eggplant is no longer available and was one of our favorite dishes.
The quality and portions of food have decreased also, some items are still good, the food is fresh and the service adequate unless you happen to get a fairly new server, which happened the last two times.
We give a lot of slack to new servers, we are rarely in a rush however when you have to ask for the same thing a couple of times or follow up on a drink order it's difficult to be completely satisfied.
We've tried to give a benefit of the doubt, unfortunately, we'll likely not be returning anytime soon if ever.
We miss the old Jane Restaurant!
I would highly recommend Jane. I Googled restaurants near me and this was one of the restaurants that came up. I read the reviews and booked a reservation. We were greeted immediately and requested a table on the balcony and after a five-minute wait, we were seated on the balcony. I didn't know what to order but the waitress suggested the halibut special and I was so glad that I followed her lead. That was the best meal I have had out at a restaurant in a long time. The fish was seasoned perfectly with a saffron sauce that I was tempted to ask for more but I held back. The meal included potato au gratin and sauteed vegetables. I was glad that we sat away from the other tables so that they wouldn't hear my moans of pleasure every time I took a bite. I was thoroughly satisfied and so was my husband needless to say we will return whenever we're in the area again.
Great food, and wonderful wait staff. All six of us loved our experience there.
Jane is consistently at the upper end of good or better. Enough so that it’s on my list of places that I frequently return to. The food has always been great. The service is always good to sometimes great. The chicken piccata is worth a trip in itself but it’s hard to go wrong with anything.
Jane is always fresh, amazing food! Staff very pleasing
Service was excellent: waitress and staff very friendly and attentive. Daily Lunch Break is a real value making overall lunch cost very manageable.
Jane is always a great choice. The food and service are consistently outstanding. The portions are a good value and the atmosphere is welcoming, comfortable and happy. We can always count on a great experience at Jane.
Excellent service and delicious food. We loved it!
Great time with friends celebrating a birthday. Not sure if the restaurant does anything when given information about a birthday ( our birthday girl was not recognized with anything from the restaurant-which is fine). We honored her w a great lunch and delicious dessert. The trout salad bowl remains my favorite and the blueberry cobbler was fabulous!
We were a party of four dining out before a play at the New Vic, around the corner. We received great service and found the food to be excellent and the service friendly and capable. We usually eat here at lunch but will think of it more often for dinner.
