Jane G's Ratings and Reviews
The food was sub par. The presentation and flavor just wasn't there. The chairs look like they came from a closed down club- they definitely are an eye sore. The restroom was disgusting - makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen.
The staff was attentive and the service was excellent. It just looks like they are good servers stuck working at an establishment where the owner is pinching pennies in the wrong places.
You need to spend money to make more money.
Definitely, will not be back.
The service was ABYSMAL!!! It took 35 minutes to get water glasses. After the first glass of water, we asked several times for refills and never got them an hour later. Eventually we got up, walked behind the bar, and filled them up ourselves. Food good but overpriced. Will not be returning to this restaurant.
Great service, delicious food. Appetizers came out extremely hot. Would've appreciated a warning before hand! Seats need replacing; leather is worn. Overall great experience though; attentive staff, food was out quick and we were happy with all our food choices!
great duck and sizzling beef was super good. Jane G special fried rice you must get if you like friend rice and the dumpling sampler we shared and was very tasty. Place needs to be cleaned up a bit and get rid of those cheezy lanterns and make it more sleek. Service needs to be upped as well as I wanted a second glass of wine and our waiter was no where to be found. You also need to get chinese spicy mustard in not the frenchs yellow kind.
OUT WAITER WAS NOT SO GOOD SO THE EXPERIENCE WAS NOT THE BEST. I TOOK TWO PEOPLE FOR THEIR BIRTHDAYS. ONE ORDERED THE DONE.. WAS NOT GOOD. WAY TOO SPICY AND THE WAITER DID NOT SAY IT WAS.- BONE IS ALL THE DUCK PIECES TOO. NOTHING CAME OUT FOR BIRTHDAY AND THE WAITER SAID HE FORGOT TO LOOK ON THE RESERVATION.
I DO LIKE IT HERE..I GO REGULARLY AND I THINK THE WAITER MADE THE EXPERIENCE NOT SO GOOD BUT HIS LACK OF TELLING US THINGS AND NOT NOTICING IT WAS A BIRTHDAY.. WE EVEN EXCHANGED GIFTS SO IT WAS EVIDENT IT WAS SOMETHING.
As a first time diner I wasn't blown away, even after a friend's recommendation. The decor is attractive but they feel the need for loud music piped in, so it's harder to hear. The servers were good, except they didn't help with our first time ordering. The apps of rock shrimp and dim sum sampler were very good, but the entrees were less than spectacular. I ordered duck in beer sauce and asked for less spicy, but it was so spicy that we had to send it back. Chicken in cashews was just okay, and udon with seafood was not great. The fried seafood plate had no flavor whatsoever. I think they have to be better than this but we will give it one more try. Just be careful ordering as this is higher priced than most Asian restaurants.
Some reviewers felt the food here is not authentic but as an American eating Chinese food I thought it was more than fine. Everything we had was delicious with the only exception being the parsley rubbed spare ribs. Tender, but tasted too herbal and dry. The Dan Dan noodles were excellent. I liked the fact that brown rice is offered with entrees as well as the usual white rice. And any dish can be ordered spicy on a scale of one to five. Specialty cocktails were great. The food portions are quite large but very reasonably priced. Service very attentive without being overbearing. Recommended.
This was my second trip to Jane G's, the first being a business lunch. The food is excellent, spicy, adjusted to taste, and simply but beautifully presented. Everything is priced reasonably and there are menu items for the adventurous ans well as the less adventurous.
Food was pretty good. You can find better food in town but if you want Asian in that local area its a good choice. They were "out of" Sauvingnon Blanc and the only other white wines were Chardonnay and a slightly sweet pinot type wine-not too great. Their spicy food and soups may be best but we didn't try the soups. We were told the mushroom dish had long hot peppers and is a little spicy but it was just bland mushrooms in a white sauce. Nice Mongolian beef, salt and pepper squid and hot pot chicken but the chicken was a little salty and dry. Pretty good General Tsoas (sp?) chicken.
As a visitor to Philadelphia this was a delightful find; my friend and I tried the chili oil dumplings, a nice find. I enjoyed the Shrimp and Walnuts, while friend tried the Peking Duck. Both portions were more than we could eat. The service was a tad slow, but overall good.
My friend and I dined here on a Saturday night. Initially everything was great, I ordered a shrimp dish and my friend ordered pepper steak. When the food arrived, my friend took about two bites of her food, spit it out and said it was not good. The steak was super tough. When she told the server, and asked if she could get another dish, he said he would tell the manager. He comes out a few minutes later and said she could not substitute her dish for anything else. My friend then told them to cancel her order and she would not get anything else. The waiter leaves and then returns saying the manager said she was still responsible for paying for her meal (even though she didn't eat it). At that point we asked for the manager to come out because we were not paying for a $27 dish that was not eaten. The manager comes out and my friend proceeded to tell her why she did not like the meal. The manager stated that it is their policy not to take back food because if everyone did that they would be out of business. She said she was not given a reason for the dish coming back to the kitchen and normally the server would have to pay for any returned dishes. After a lengthy discussion and her realizing that my friend and I were absolutely not paying for the meal, she agreed to take it off the bill. After that, it took the server another 20 minutes to even bring us the bill. I really though this was a higher end restaurant. I never thought we would have to go through so much for a meal we were displeased with. Needless to say I won't be returning.
This was my second time here. The food was good. The service seems to have declined. We felt rushed. The order was wrong. They never brought what we had originally asked for. Also, the noise from the staff having conversations could be heard in the dining room. For what it is worth, I felt that the drinks were overpriced. I probably won't be back.
Nice spot, and the food was great. Service was definitely efficient, but not overly friendly. We don't eat out to make friends with the staff, but a smile now and then would be ok. Cannot say enough about the food though. Both appetizers and entrees were great. Portions were generous so we ended up taking home some of each.
My husband and I come here regularly and while getting the same things each time (usually) we just love - the popcorn shrimp, chili oil dumplings, Kung Pao and the General Tso. The things we change up are usually changing out the pork or chicken for shrimp. Excellent food, reasonable drinks, and we usually have enough to take home for another dinner. Always an enjoyable experience!
Dan Dan Noodles were probably the best that I ever ate, spicy at level 3, with 5 being the hottest. Pork Soup Dumplings were OKAY, not great. Kung Pao Chicken was a real disappointment, as was the Chicken Pad Thai.
No real complaints about the service, except we received very little guidance on menu items and a lack of interest and enthusiasm for specific items when we asked.
I would give it another try, but I think I would try Han Dynasty first, they get much better reviews.
I like this restaurant. Always a great meal. The seating is comfortable and the hostess is always happy to see customers. Our waiter's are usually very professional and willing to do their job, not so much this time. However, did not let that ruin my dinner, just worked around him. Great value for dinner. Do not miss this restaurant. The meal can go as quick or as slow as you need it to go.
