Sadly, I was disappointed. When I looked at the offerings, I saw a few things that intrigued me, and I was looking forward to a great meal. My husband and I shared the Tagliatelle and Clams and also the beet salad. The Tagliatelle itself was nice, but the clam dish tasted too much of clam, and NOT in a good way. I enjoyed the beet salad, my husband did not. I had a trout dish with potatoes and turnip (I can't seem to find the menu online, so going by recollection), my husband had Halibut with mushrooms or truffle. Or entrees came, and they bring out both dishes and pour a warm broth over each. Mine was very undercooked. Not just the fish, but the potatoes were barely cooked at all. And my dish had very little flavor. My husband enjoyed his halibut, but both dishes were terribly under-seasoned. We thought dessert might be better. We ordered the apple crisp. It was not especially good, definitely not better than fair. I was really disappointed. The service was fine, and the ambiance was nice. Perhaps they were having an off night, but based on that meal, I would not rush back. Actually, the best part of the meal was the olives that came at the beginning with the bread.

The Thursday night special 2 course meal was amazing!!! The oysters and salmon tartar starters were wonderful. The lamb chop and polenta was to die for!! The wine pairing from Oregon was to perfection. It was a delightful evening. What we all enjoyed was having Matt the owner/chef speaking to all of the guests is such a great touch. Also the owner of the Oregon winery spoke to everyone as well.

Fish is quite simply, superb. It is such a great antidote to all the mediocre to bad restaurants in Newport that are interested in tourists and covers only, not the quality of the food. At Fish, the food is imaginative, fresh, and just delicious. We had the most amazing fish chowder with saffron and coconut milk. For the mains, we had swordfish and shrimp and grits, respectively. The wine selection was a lovely surprise and those featured were unusual-- not the usual run of the mill sauvignon blanc. We had a lovely Gruner Veltliner and a Beerenauslese, an amazing find. The latter was a delicious companion to our homemade ice cream and apple crisp. Great ambiance as well. What a gem. Thank God for Fish!

a wonderful surprise. Beautiful codktails, outstanding wine selections with a beautiful presentation. The oyster preparation was unique and delicious. Shrimp and grits were surprisingly complex. Bread was perfect also. Their cheesecake was unusual and fabulous. We will come back.

My Italian guests were duly impressed, as were we, with the service, comfortable yet refined atmosphere, ease and flow of the meal, creative wine pairings, amuse-bouche and outstanding preparation of each dish. My Chef friend was especially fond of the Fish Chowder's Thai flavor profile and the other immediately noticed a reference to the "Housemade tajarin" and said, "this Chef knows real Italian cuisine!" Not surprisingly, it was his favorite dish of the evening.
Chef Matthew MacCartney speaks fluent Italian and made our guests feel right at home. We'll be back!

I have dined at “ Fish” many times. The food was quite good and the service was outstanding. But, the value proposition is being diminished by ( in my opinion) too high a price.

Portions were small but flavorful. Risotto was not the best ...undercooked and not creamy as expected. Dessert was delicious. Server never offered coffee with dessert. Small touches were missing for an upscale restaurant.

Wonderful meal. Great ambience. Excellent staff and service. Only recommendation is to let the chocolate cake dessert come to room temperature before serving. For us it tasted great but the consistency was a little stiff, which probably resulted from it being chilled.

Always a fine dining experience at Jamestown Fish. I had the lobster risotto which was excellent, although I felt that berries that decorated the risotto didn’ t go with the flavors of the dish.

The quality of the food was top notch. Service excellent. Wife loved everything. Just don't order steak at a restaurant named Fish. I had salmon for lunch and did not want to overdue it for the day and selected the steak special that was too tough to chew. But the sauce was very tasty and the potatoes that came with it were very good. Deserts were great. All in all, we will return on the next special occasion. Too pricey for a senior's budget.

Our meal was okay, small portions and expensive, nothing goes with it, no potato or vegetable. The house wine was good but $19. A glass!!!!! Will never go back, good thing the company was good or it would have been worse.

Our first visit to a winter monthly "wine vintage" dinner was memorable. It is an elegant menu but an informal, compatible, and even collaborative event. Diners have access to vintage wines at a reduced price per glass, and guests are encouraged to bring similar (but less expensive) wines to share among the tables. Diners may choose from the regular menu, but also from a small and modestly priced prix fixe menu: in our case, local oysters with yuzu and American caviar, and an excellent lobster risotto. A memorable experience - not to be missed.

My wife and I went to Fish to enjoy their 6th year in business special menu of seafood and champagne. The Walrus and Carpenter oysters are very special. The lobster risotto was delicious and the swordfish was great. The champagnes were terrific.

Cute space and lively atmosphere. However, the service was lacking for a restaurant of that quality - slow to clear plates between courses and the like. Restaurant week menu was hit or miss - eggplant caponata was subpar, but some other things are ok.

This is restaurant week in Newport, and therefore most of the establishments produce a limited menu (usually three appetizers, three entrees, three desserts.) In this milieu, Jamestown Fish more than stands out: a diverse list of eight appetizers and nine entrees. Chef Matthew Maccartney and his staff demonstrate a noted commitment to both the principles of fine dining and the concept of "restaurant week." Our dinners were superb: smoked salmon and then grilled salmon, and salt cod pate and then black pasta with clams. The notable wine list is broad, deep, and well-priced. But a continual caveat (we have now been here five times:) it is VERY noisy. My wife and I have a deep affection for this place, but we must lean over the two top to converse.

Our first visit to Fish -- Ambiance was lovely -- elegant, but not stuffy. Service was excellent, as was the food. Menu (Restaurant Week) made it hard to choose! Much better variety than many Restaurant Week menus. All in our group enjoyed everything they ordered and the already positive experience was topped off by the chef's visit to our table. We will be recommending
Jamestown Fish to our friends and will be back.

The meal was delicious. The only issue was the salt - I am on a low salt diet and did not realize there would be as much salt in the meal. Otherwise, the meal was excellent and the entire dining experience was superb.

This was Newport Restaurant Week which I always take advantage of each time. In fact, I am going back tonight. I usually go during the warm months so can sit outside, have starters, oven pizza made on premises & a nice bottle of wine.

Our meals were amazing. My husband had the venison, I had swordfish, both were excellent. The venison blew us away, and was presented beautifully. We also loved the duck meatballs we tried for an appetizer. The swordfish was cooked to perfection. The night we were there, there was an Austrian wine distributor there and we were able to try a number of wines in 3-oz. portions, we really enjoyed that. I've read reviews that say the portion sizes are small and the restaurant is too expensive, but we thought it was a good value. It's fine dining, and if people are expecting something different they might be disappointed.

Wow ! The food was simply delicious. I find that few restaurant's these days have the knowledge on how to properly serve a guest at any price point but this restaurant certainly does.
We were flattered by all the chef when he visited our table and my guests beamed from the all the attention.
This is a special place and I'll be back for my next special occasion :)
