This was my second time at James Republic and all the choices were terrific. We ordered 3 items for 2 people and it was ample - grouper was the standout, scallops were also excellent with a pleasant arugula salad. Live music was enthusiastic if a bit too loud for my taste. Servers were accommodating and seated us far away from source of music so I could hear my table companion. It was a Wednesday night and a business dinner so less about hearing the loud music.
Pleasant surprise as we could not get into first choice due to conference take over. Used open table 15 min before on a Sunday nite so pretty empty. Small plates as appetizer and main $10-17. Cheddar biscuits a must and lamb was excellent. Surprise was special polenta stuffed pasta for $16 and was enough to share. Gods service and recommendations. Wine list eclectic and different. Very good value..attached to a nice marriott with outdoor and open air setting
Really thought the menu was very thoughtfully constructed, and there were numerous excellent dishes that we ordered including: oysters with tarragon mignonette, fried chicken, hangar steak, corn ravioli with burst tomatoes, pot de creme for dessert. The restaurant is also beautiful inside with top-notch customer service. Highly recommended.
The pantry cook sucks and needs to get another job.
Great service, great food, wonderful atmosphere. The food was outstanding and something you cannot get anywhere else. The menu is simple, but everything on the menu is fantastic. Highly recommend and definitely will return.
James Republic accommodated our large party perfectly!! The food and drinks were perfect! Just a tad pricy but worth it overall!! Loved the brussel sprouts. Our server was a little hasty and anxious to clear dishes, and wouldn't split the bill, but he cut our cake and served it! Our group had a great time!!
Great place. Had been to James Republic a few years ago and was not impressed. Tried this past Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed. Our server Gary) was knowledgeable, informative and communicative. They were out of a couple of items but Gary provided great alternatives. BTW the Brussels Sprouts are really good....so good we ordered three times. Overall a great experience. Parking is easy as the restaurant Is connected to the Courtyard Marriott.
This place was a gem, my husband and i were in town for a friends wedding & so glad we stopped by. Friendly staff, food was fresh, coffee yummy & food came out quickly.
Still one if my faves but very disappointed that they took grilled octopus off the menu. This was the only place in town that I could get my octopus fix. Really missed it. The steelhead was good but I didn't like that it was swimming in liquid. Took away from the taste.
Too expensive for what they are serving .. food was ok. Won’t be returning
Best breakfast sandwich ever!. Great service. Was from out of town and was looking for a breakfast spot.
Loved this place! The open dining room to the street was so great for people watching. Friendly staff. Great food!
Absolutely the best restaurant I've ever seen attached to a Courtyard Marriott. But actually one of the best restaurants in Long Beach. It's a very professional chef who we had a chance to talk to and we talked to the floor manager. The chef is well-trained in many restaurants and started to break out on his own and created James Republic. There's Duck Rabbit lamb as well as other meats and four or five fish dishes as well some of them fresh and wild caught right there in the Long Beach area. Excellent for Foodies and for healthy folks my wife is gluten free and vegan and had no problems eating there whatsoever. I am an omnivore and had no problems eating there whatsoever. Haha. You have to park either in the hotel parking lot which is fine or just down the street so it's pretty close but it's not right in front and I'm not sure but I didn't see valet there they do have valet at the hotel. And it is very close to many other sites like the aquarium and The hockey arena for the Long Beach minor league team.
Creative menu items and friendly service. We had a couple of minor glitches with the food order but the staff and manager quickly made the necessary modifications.
This was our first visit to this venue and we plan to be back.
The food items tended to be a bit on the salty side this evening so we plan to request less aggressive seasoning next time.
A very comfortable setting and experience.
The outdoor patio dining area looked out onto the local eclectic neighborhood and presented a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Small menu- not descriptive enough. Service not attentive.
Even though i only went for a quick bite right before a show, the waiter is still very friendly and courteous. Excellent service. The burger was delicious.
Love the food and atmosphere...especially on a great day when walls/window are all open to the outside!
Great charcuterie, cocktails and Hangar Steak! Our waiter was Devine 😊
Very good food. Best to share dishes l. Reasonably priced. Yummy desserts. Have to have the cinnamon ice cream.
We sat out on the patio on a beautiful evening. Our waiter Leo was kind, polite and very helpful in explaining the menu. The food was fresh and delicious. We had the hanger steak and Mahi-mahi. Can’t wait to return.
We found a piece of plastic in our food, but we didn't care since the meal was so awesome. Would go back again.
Great food and service. This is a worthy restaurant to return to.
I had a great time food and drinks were so good and the service was good
What a memorable meal. Each plate was terrific. And the bar offerings were also exceptional. We will go back. We really liked James Republic.
Food and drink were outstanding! We love the vibe and enjoyed ourselves. It was date night with my husband and it was a nice escape from parenting at least for one night.
I liked the choices for brunch, but felt the portions for the sides were very small. The hash that I had was very good and the service was teriffic!
Fridays during Lent, Catholics abstain from eating meat. I prefer to eat the fish & chips here, any day! Lightly battered, fresh fish delicately fried. The fries are yummy.
Eh....the restaurant was ok. For Restaurant Week, they didn’t have many choices.
We enjoyed the quality of service from our server, May. The "Feelin Some Kinda Way' lavender infused vodka cocktail was a burst of refreshing flavor during each sip. We loved the Dine Out Long Beach 2.0 menu that spanned beets, Kambucha, scallops and baby-back ribs. Delicious! Enjoyed the attentive service and soothing atmosphere.
Our previous visit on a Saturday was exceptional but on a subsequent visit on a Thursday evening 4 of the 6 dishes were far too salty.
There was a table with 5 women laughing and yelling so loud it was terrible and no one asked them to quite down or leave, they were raging loud.... Management should have done something.. It lasted the whole I'm we were there!
This is a wonderfully inventive restaurant! The somewhat small menu always astounds. BRAVO!!
Great but chilly...
Unexpected find. The food was outstanding and so were the cocktails and wine. Garret was a very good server. I will return!
Service is outstanding. Best waiter ever. Food was delicious and ambiance nice.
Had 6pm reservations for 2. All doors open to outside, breezy and chilly evening. It is open concept on corner street, making it extremely noisy. Not a place to take someone who is hard of hearing nor someone with PTSD. The bar had a few seats taken as well as a few outside tables. We were sat next to a party of 8 inside (the hostess said this is considered “empty”). We ordered Sprouts and a meat/cheese plate (blue cheese and what the waiter described as a cheddar) and a single glass of wine. Took 20-25 mins to get our food. The cheese portion sadly, consisted of only 1/2 of a 2 oz dressing container of crumbled blue and a single 1/4” wedge of cheddar, but a huge pile of Speck. It also had a few slices of bread and a few candies pecans. The sprouts were enough to share and delicious! Our total bill $60!
This is my fifth time going to JR however last two times horribly noisy w Flamenco.
I’m sorry I’m sure they thought it would be a great addition but it’s a distraction. This restaurant is beautiful looking out to the street windows open.
Flamenco music is loud shrill and demanding. It provides no chance for reflection or quiet conversation with my guests. Musicians both times insist on a volume that crowds all else out. Leaves no room to breathe and take in the rest of the ambience.
Won’t be back as long as JR keeps them as “background” music.
Good food. Interesting menu based on farm to table. So constantly rotating.
Lovely place for a Sunday brunch indoor and outdoor combine seamlessly the way the resto is set up.
