Outstanding meal and cocktails, service was very very very slow. The waiter kept telling us the bartender was backed up. It's a small place, and yet, it took them a good 15-20 minutes to bring our drinks. Even the waiter suggested we order ahead of time for our next round.
Food was outstanding, but portions are very small. Two people got the scallop dish, only 3 scallops.
Most of us were still hungry after dinner, so we opted for dessert which was delicious.
At least we didn't go home full.
Six of us had a lovely dinner before going to a concert. The meals were outstanding as well as the service.
My friends hadn’t eaten at James Republic before and are excited to return.
Marisa our Server was excellent. She couldn't have been more pleasant and knowledgeable
Really hard to give a good review when the BLTA, which is not a real stretch, comes with no avocado. It came to the table on a torn slice of rustic bread and looked extremely lonely. When I brought it to my servers attention she did as little recovery as possible. I got a sad bowl with three slices of avocado.
While nobody died in this transaction what it speaks to is the lack of attention to detail. Service was average and food and beverage were average. This is a BEAUTIFUL space.
Our friends at Ellie's or Taste-Beer-Wine-Kitchen should move here.
Really enjoyed our visit. There were four of us each with a different thought for dinner. It was great. I enjoyed the Manhattans.
As always, we had a great meal and fabulous drinks. This is one of the few restaurants with a tailored menu and yet I would order everything on the menu. We love the cocktails, they are creative and well balanced. I highly recommend this restaurant and only wish they were open later.
At James Republic, I dined on Steelhead trout while my companion opted for the scallops. Both of us felt that the food was expertly prepared, flavorful, and artfully presented. Our appetizer of three cheeses arrived with delicious bread -- soft with a crunchy toasted crust. Also with the cheese came grapes, dried fruit and peanuts. Lastly, we finished up with some coffee and two desserts -- Pavlova and a lemon curd stuffed meringue that was absolutely delicious. The prices were moderate ($20s for most entres). The service attentive, yet gave us space to enjoy our date night. I'd recommend this place any time!
Our server and the actual entire staff were pleasant. Number one reason I’m going out of my way to write this. Yelp is basically mostly for negativity and our server as well as everyone else we dealt with during our experience all had welcoming and professional demeanors while still being able to crack jokes and have fun which is so important at work.
Just because we’re coming in to be served doesn’t mean we can’t interact and enjoy the company of those taking such good care of us.
I loved the scenery. The waitress happily made us espresso martinis eventhough it was late and we thought she was so sweet and pleasant.
Great service, yummy cocktails
The noise level was unacceptable. A spanish band played nice music, but the noise level was horrible. It was almost impossible to talk to the partner on the other side of the table!! I will recommend this place only to deaf people.
Was very impressed with our first visit here. Plan to go back again. All staff very friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful. Good value.
Creative cocktails. Terrific food-we had the octopus, chicken and lamb. Great service. Our go to whenever we’re in Long Beach.
This is our go-to gathering place for friends & family when we are meeting up in Long Beach. The ambience and staff are casual & lovely, and the food is wonderful—they change up the menu seasonally and seem to use local ingredients often. I’ve been with people that have a variety of dietary needs & preferences, and all are able to find something yummy. The patio seating allows doggies as dining companions, which is perfect for our four legged friend to join us. I have only been there on Sundays for brunch/lunch, so can’t speak to how busy or noisy it is at other times, but on Sunday at least, be advised that the business hours & parking are limited.
There must have been only one cook. We waited 35 minutes for pasta and scallops
James Republic has really outdone themselves, from our great server Brittany to the amazing oysters and scallops, i would recommend everyone come try out this gem in downtown long beach. The atmosphere is amazing with the outdoor cali vibe seating, i would definitely recommend to anyone coming in to visit LB,
The soyrizo and eggs is delicious as is the fried chicken eggs Benedict. A great place with finesse & freshness
Fabulous and inventive dishes and cocktails — a really cool chill vibe. Also fab for breakfast!
Wonderful staff, excellent cocktails and wine list and a very eclectic menu. I will be back on my next trip to Long Beach!
In Marriott Courtyard. A modern and, for we seniors, a bit unusual menu. Our excellent server May ably described it all, with suggestions. We had heirloom tomatos and Mediterranean Lamb Kafka, both of which were very tasty and enjoyable. Came back for breakfast; a large glass of delicious orange juice, granola/yogurt, and fried egg sandwich. Beautifully prepared and delicious, and a very pleasant/helpful server too. Overall, a definite five!!
Service was lacking. Took 10 minutes for anyone to take a drink order. Utensils were not brought until requested for the meal. And salt and pepper never made it to the table. Will not go back for brunch again.
I met a good friend for brunch because we really needed to catch up. We ordered the sopes and also the California eggs. Both were very good (the sopes base were a bit tough and hard to cut ) . The topping was great. California eggs were amazing.
We also had pomme frites as a starter. I had a Mexican Mocha (amazing!) and my friend had a cappuccino. Great lunch. GREAT service and while the room got pretty noisy, the doors were opened and we felt really comfortable.
The food is always great the service always amazing.
Love the fact that they are dog friendly!!
Food was good. Drinks were clever takes on traditional cocktails. Strawberry tart was, plainly put, awful. Crust was inedible and rock hard as if frozen prior for an extended period of time
Found this restaurant while on a trip to Long Beach. Made a reservation on-line although it wasn't needed. Upscale, nice atmosphere, the service was great (Marissa) and the food was fantastic. I took my two kids ages 8 & 9, they don't have a printed kid menu, but honestly it wasn't needed. My kids had sliders and they were awesome! Tried a new wine while there and it was lovely. Would definitely go back if we get to Long Beach again!
I have always loved James Republic. But today was outstanding; Marissa was a great server, super nice, super attentive, and her recommendations were great. , the food was superb.
Always fantastic service, fantastic food and atmosphere! Our go to restaurant for biz dining, impressive for clients.
It was pretty quiet, with fewer diners than I’ve seen previously. We reserved patio seating as we had a small dog with us. We were running a few minutes late and they were very understanding & accommodating, and we were seated right away on arrival. The menu truly had something for everyone as we had a variety of special dietary needs. The food was so fresh & tasty, and presented attractively. They change up the menu frequently and are a “farm to table” restaurant, so it might not be helpful to recommend a dish, but if it’s available, the avocado toast is exceptional. Also, the coffee is wonderful, especially with oat milk if you like yours with cream & want a dairy alternative. Wait staff were so friendly.
The food is even better than advertised. I was expecting a good meal and got a really great one. My daughter who is gluten free was dining with us and the restaurant easily accommodated her dietary needs. If you are in the area and you love fresh, well prepared food that sings... go... go right now!
nice place with an open feel to it- went for breakfast and the menu was very limited - the dishes ordered were very good and the service was attentive
My girlfriend and I were celebrating our 60th birthdays together. The food was great (awesome sharing options). Loved the Knightrider Cocktail (we each had 2). The desserts were yummy (ordered 1, but got 2 since it was our birthdays.). Garrett, our server was great.
This was my second time at James Republic and all the choices were terrific. We ordered 3 items for 2 people and it was ample - grouper was the standout, scallops were also excellent with a pleasant arugula salad. Live music was enthusiastic if a bit too loud for my taste. Servers were accommodating and seated us far away from source of music so I could hear my table companion. It was a Wednesday night and a business dinner so less about hearing the loud music.
Pleasant surprise as we could not get into first choice due to conference take over. Used open table 15 min before on a Sunday nite so pretty empty. Small plates as appetizer and main $10-17. Cheddar biscuits a must and lamb was excellent. Surprise was special polenta stuffed pasta for $16 and was enough to share. Gods service and recommendations. Wine list eclectic and different. Very good value..attached to a nice marriott with outdoor and open air setting
Really thought the menu was very thoughtfully constructed, and there were numerous excellent dishes that we ordered including: oysters with tarragon mignonette, fried chicken, hangar steak, corn ravioli with burst tomatoes, pot de creme for dessert. The restaurant is also beautiful inside with top-notch customer service. Highly recommended.
The pantry cook sucks and needs to get another job.
Great service, great food, wonderful atmosphere. The food was outstanding and something you cannot get anywhere else. The menu is simple, but everything on the menu is fantastic. Highly recommend and definitely will return.
James Republic accommodated our large party perfectly!! The food and drinks were perfect! Just a tad pricy but worth it overall!! Loved the brussel sprouts. Our server was a little hasty and anxious to clear dishes, and wouldn't split the bill, but he cut our cake and served it! Our group had a great time!!
Great place. Had been to James Republic a few years ago and was not impressed. Tried this past Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed. Our server Gary) was knowledgeable, informative and communicative. They were out of a couple of items but Gary provided great alternatives. BTW the Brussels Sprouts are really good....so good we ordered three times. Overall a great experience. Parking is easy as the restaurant Is connected to the Courtyard Marriott.
This place was a gem, my husband and i were in town for a friends wedding & so glad we stopped by. Friendly staff, food was fresh, coffee yummy & food came out quickly.
