It is always my favorite restaurant and never disappoints. James was there to greet us. Service was perfect. Can't wait to go back and order the same thing. (breakfast bowl). Yummy. Of course the french toast for dessert ...

We were hugely disappointed by our experience at James' Beach. Our server was practically non-existent, and our food was mediocre at best, and for over $100. The "famous" Mahi Mahi tacos arrived cold and overdone, and we would've been disappointed in them if they were only $5, let alone $25 a plate. Will absolutely not return here and encourage others to seek out better establishments that aren't the tourist trap that James' Beach is.

They first sat us outside at a high table, which was hard to get to in a tight dress and 64” of height. We requested to move to a booth and were seated without issue. Only complaint is the hurricane generated by the wind outside. SIT INSIDE!

Because of proximity to L.A. Louver it was perfect place to eat/park. I had crab salad and unfortunately was skimpy and unsatisfying. Maybe other entrees are better. Hope so

The food was good. Drink and wine portions were generous. The outdoor dinning area was welcoming and cute. We did not ever exist unless we tried hard to flag someone down - for seating, to give an order, to get a check.

The quiet we requested at the beginning was jarred by somewhat loud music. After my guest spoke to them, they turned it down or off. We greatly appreciated it. My guests appreciate fine food and they were pleased. Therefore, I was too.

thank you,

James Beach is one of my favorite go-to spots at the beach and has been for many years. It's always consistent. I love to come here mid-week when it's kind of quiet and on weekends for fun cocktails with friends. So glad it's endured after all these years!

Love their outdoor patio and food was pretty good, but we unfortunately had really slow service and had to keep nagging the waiter which was no fun.

I was so excited about our dinner reservation at James Beach. It was late - 9pm- but I did ask about the time and was told on the phone that it was fine. We arrived for our reservation and were seated immediately. The food was good but our order was not correct. That, however, is not the reason for the low rating. Following our meal, the music was turned up so loud that we were unable to sit and have a conservation. It was obvious that staff wanted the restaurant to clear out and it worked! I feel that we were cheated out of our meal and was very disappointed. Will not retun.

6 of us went here last night for a nice dinner before seeing a play. We had reservations for 5:45. We live in the valley and this restaurant came very highly recommended. That said, here is my opinion.

The host was very nice when we came in, and even reconfigured the table for us. The restaurant was not crowded at all. It took over 20 minutes for our waiter to come by. No small talk, no smile, it seemed like we were bothering him by being there.

We ordered and the food came in a decent amount of time. We were all very happy with the food. It was delicious. I highly recommend the Carne Asada tacos.

The waiter when taking an empty glass of soda which still had some melted ice, spilled it on the back of one of us, apologized, briskly tried to wipe off his back, and that was the end of it. You would have at least thought that he would have taken 1 soda off of the bill if not more like offering to pay for cleaning. Another sign of indifference.

When we were done with dinner, the check was brought to the table. Then we waited for at least 20 minutes, mind you, the restaurant was still not that busy, and no waiter picking up the check with payment. We asked the host if he could take care of it as we had to go to get to our play. He gave the waiter the bill and the payment to the waiter and still the bill was not returned to the table so that we could sign and go. It took over another 10 minutes.

The food was very good, but I am not certain that it is worth coming back to the very bad service that we received.

I live close to James Beach and consider it a huge benefit. Their food and service is outstanding and I recommend it to our guests when people ask.
The cocktails and selections are fantastic and the food is always wonderful.
It's a happening scene on the weekend evenings so I only go for dinner but later the bar gets too crowded for me.

My server was not bad I only gave 3 stars because they were understaffed. But they were very friendly and the food, especially the tuna poke was awesome! Good prices, nice little spot! The manager was super nice and personable. He came over and said hello and apologized that we waited. It made all the difference in th world too! We will be back for sure!

Unfortunately our waiter ignored us instead of coming to check in when It️ became abundantly clear our order had been lost. There were other waiters and busboys who became attentive and took additional drink orders, brought water glasses to the table, and asked how we were doing. No drinks comped, no apologies, in fact the waiter didn’t even speak to us after our entrees were cleared he just put the dessert menus on the table and walked away. Strange meal out.

Food was absolutely horrible! Tuna poke was kind of gross. Rotisserie chicken was dry with stuffing? It was just burnt croutons. The brussel sprouts were hard and flavorless. My friend said her meal, duck tacos, was not good. Ok, the truffle fries were good but that’s it.

James Beach is a perfect combination of location, great food and great service! The inside patio is really fun for lunch or to sit at the bar - I have been there so many times but never actually eaten on the restaurant side. Menu has fresh, local ingredients and always has a few new dishes to try. We live in the neighborhood and James Beach is our go to weekend lunch spot and fun place to bring visitors - you won't get better food and service this close to the beach in Venice!

This restaurant was horrible. I asked for a Tito’s martini and it tasted like rubbing alcohol. The menu was overpriced and the food was not fresh. I asked if the crab cakes were fresh & were told they were but they were most definitely not. The food was dry & we left very disappointed. I wish we had not gone here it was our first night in Venice & thankfully our only poor dining experience of the trip.

We have been coming to James Beach since it opened. James and Danny the owners are consummate restuaranters. The food is freshly cooked and delicious. The service personal and first rate. It is home.
On top of this Danny is a phenomenally good artist and his paintings on the wall express the feeling of what it is like to lead a west coast life.
It is an experience not to be missed.

We went to James' Beach on New Years Eve. Due to the Rose Bowl, I had made reservations in advance. When we arrived, the restaurant was not full. We had a party of 7 and service was exceptional. We were checked on many times during our meal. My daughter and I both had the Mahi Mahi Tacos. They were really good! I would recommend James' Beach to anyone visiting Venice Beach. The Christmas decorations were really fun!

We picked this spot for a birthday brunch for my daughter's 20th birthday. Great vibe, excellent music, yummy food. I love the scones that come out when you sit down. They are perfect for absorbing any alcohol floating around in your stomach from the previous night's partying. It would also be a good spot for after the beach, or pre-dinner cocktails. Will definitely be visiting there again soon!
