About James' Beach

James’ Beach, celebrating 20 years as Venice Beach’s most iconic neighborhood restaurant is still “as comfortable as your favorite sweater” L.A. Times. The menu’s celebrated New American Comfort Food features local farm produce and the best in natural meats and seafood. The upscale taco plates made famous in the film “I Love You, Man” as “the world’s best” are a must. Repurposed boards shorts light up the cool outdoor patio; considered one of LA’s best destinations for weekend brunch, lunch and festive dinners. Inside, the candle lit, white table cloth dining room is perfect for more intimate occasions. The two full bars serve generous, handcrafted craft cocktails and an award winning wine list helps make James’ Beach a gathering spot for a beautiful, friendly bar crowd, especially on busy weekends.

Loved the fish tacos! Received a free dessert for my birthday. This is one of our favorite places to eat at the beach!

Extraordinarily overrated. Terrible tacos - despite the fact that this is literally the main thing they claim to be famous for. Food was overpriced and inauthentic. So disappointed. Do not recommend.

Always a treat to dine at James'. Food is always top grade, the atmosphere is warn and vibrant. Grateful that they accommodated our table requests, and threw in a couple of extras. Our primary waitress was slow/overtaxed, but James and new maitre de were on top of it.

We picked this spot for a birthday brunch for my daughter's 20th birthday. Great vibe, excellent music, yummy food. I love the scones that come out when you sit down. They are perfect for absorbing any alcohol floating around in your stomach from the previous night's partying. It would also be a good spot for after the beach, or pre-dinner cocktails. Will definitely be visiting there again soon!

Service was slow and inattentive. We were the largest party in the patio and still somehow we got the least service.

We sat on the covered patio. Quirky, fun beach decor. Service was friendly & efficient. Food was delicious. Filet mignon sliders were cooked perfectly and were very tender. The wild pacific shrimp special was great. All special requests were cheerfully met. Portions were good. Prices reasonable. Highly recommend.

Great lunch at this hip but cool place with very nice wholesome food. Definitely a must for Venice beach visitors. Great wine list at reasonable prices and friendly service

Great food and our waitress was excellent but the place was mostly empty and they told us there'd be a 20 minute wait. I pointed out that we had ares. Then they sat us but it became obvious they were totally understaffed....appears to have a mgt issue.

Terrifiic dinner for four. Started with the tomato and buratta salad, watermelon and feta salad, special main course of fried chicken (absolutely terrific). My wife had some mahi mahi tacos and my son had duck tacos (I know they both loved their dishes). My son's girlfriend had a salad and I think she liked it. We finished with a chocolate souffle, and special nectarine pie and some home-made chocolate chip cookies. All of them were great. This area of Venice does not seem like a dining scene, but this restaurant is worth it.

They served us a Manhattan ON THAT ROCKS.
Nine out of ten bar guides say a Manhattan is always served up and many suggest that there is no such drink and a Manhattan on the rocks. Get a bar guide or a new bartender or, if he insists on being creative, at least have the server ask the customer how they want it. I'd roll my eyes, and think the waiter's an idiot for asking such a dumb question, but at least I'd get a proper drink.

Would you serve gin and vermouth on the rocks?

James Beach is terrific....we love going there. The menu and food is really good. The best item to order isn't on the menu. It is a dessert and is a vanilla ice cream with caramel on it.....don't miss it and you have to ask for it.

James Beach had really cool decoration and a nice feel/vibe. The food was mediocre (I suppose it's the hype from the movie) and very expensive. It turns into a night club in the late evening so be prepared to be hurried out if you are still eating around 10pm.
