About James' Beach
James’ Beach, celebrating 20 years as Venice Beach’s most iconic neighborhood restaurant is still “as comfortable as your favorite sweater” L.A. Times. The menu’s celebrated New American Comfort Food features local farm produce and the best in natural meats and seafood. The upscale taco plates made famous in the film “I Love You, Man” as “the world’s best” are a must. Repurposed boards shorts light up the cool outdoor patio; considered one of LA’s best destinations for weekend brunch, lunch and festive dinners. Inside, the candle lit, white table cloth dining room is perfect for more intimate occasions. The two full bars serve generous, handcrafted craft cocktails and an award winning wine list helps make James’ Beach a gathering spot for a beautiful, friendly bar crowd, especially on busy weekends.

James' Beach Ratings and Reviews
Food was absolutely horrible! Tuna poke was kind of gross. Rotisserie chicken was dry with stuffing? It was just burnt croutons. The brussel sprouts were hard and flavorless. My friend said her meal, duck tacos, was not good. Ok, the truffle fries were good but that’s it.
James Beach is a perfect combination of location, great food and great service! The inside patio is really fun for lunch or to sit at the bar - I have been there so many times but never actually eaten on the restaurant side. Menu has fresh, local ingredients and always has a few new dishes to try. We live in the neighborhood and James Beach is our go to weekend lunch spot and fun place to bring visitors - you won't get better food and service this close to the beach in Venice!
This restaurant was horrible. I asked for a Tito’s martini and it tasted like rubbing alcohol. The menu was overpriced and the food was not fresh. I asked if the crab cakes were fresh & were told they were but they were most definitely not. The food was dry & we left very disappointed. I wish we had not gone here it was our first night in Venice & thankfully our only poor dining experience of the trip.
We have been coming to James Beach since it opened. James and Danny the owners are consummate restuaranters. The food is freshly cooked and delicious. The service personal and first rate. It is home.
On top of this Danny is a phenomenally good artist and his paintings on the wall express the feeling of what it is like to lead a west coast life.
It is an experience not to be missed.
We went to James' Beach on New Years Eve. Due to the Rose Bowl, I had made reservations in advance. When we arrived, the restaurant was not full. We had a party of 7 and service was exceptional. We were checked on many times during our meal. My daughter and I both had the Mahi Mahi Tacos. They were really good! I would recommend James' Beach to anyone visiting Venice Beach. The Christmas decorations were really fun!
This is my 3rd or 4th time at James Beach for brunch and I still adore it. The ambience is so comfortable and the staff is very friendly. It's in a great location and the service is very quick. I love their salads and all of the breakfast options. Mimosas and bloody marys are great as well!
Great place, excellent menu / not big but everything on it is very good. Salmon, turkey burger gourmet, specials like fried chicken, excellent steaks, and a very good wine list. Modest pricing for a high end restaurant on the Westside. A jewel. Highly recommended.
Always a treat to dine at James'. Food is always top grade, the atmosphere is warn and vibrant. Grateful that they accommodated our table requests, and threw in a couple of extras. Our primary waitress was slow/overtaxed, but James and new maitre de were on top of it.
We picked this spot for a birthday brunch for my daughter's 20th birthday. Great vibe, excellent music, yummy food. I love the scones that come out when you sit down. They are perfect for absorbing any alcohol floating around in your stomach from the previous night's partying. It would also be a good spot for after the beach, or pre-dinner cocktails. Will definitely be visiting there again soon!
We sat on the covered patio. Quirky, fun beach decor. Service was friendly & efficient. Food was delicious. Filet mignon sliders were cooked perfectly and were very tender. The wild pacific shrimp special was great. All special requests were cheerfully met. Portions were good. Prices reasonable. Highly recommend.
Terrifiic dinner for four. Started with the tomato and buratta salad, watermelon and feta salad, special main course of fried chicken (absolutely terrific). My wife had some mahi mahi tacos and my son had duck tacos (I know they both loved their dishes). My son's girlfriend had a salad and I think she liked it. We finished with a chocolate souffle, and special nectarine pie and some home-made chocolate chip cookies. All of them were great. This area of Venice does not seem like a dining scene, but this restaurant is worth it.
They served us a Manhattan ON THAT ROCKS.
Nine out of ten bar guides say a Manhattan is always served up and many suggest that there is no such drink and a Manhattan on the rocks. Get a bar guide or a new bartender or, if he insists on being creative, at least have the server ask the customer how they want it. I'd roll my eyes, and think the waiter's an idiot for asking such a dumb question, but at least I'd get a proper drink.
Would you serve gin and vermouth on the rocks?
