Jake's Restaurant & Saloon Ratings and Reviews
I found Jake's through a Google search for family restaurants. While the service was nice, the decor lovely, and I was completely enchanted by the historical building, the food was very expensive and not that great. It was fine, but not worth the price tag. It was not very family friendly, I felt very out of place bringing my children but the kids menu did have good prices. Overall, it was fine dinner, but not what I expected for the high prices. I would not bring my family back there.
I came with a party of 7. We were seated quickly as I made a reservation, but it went downhill from there. It took 30 minutes for our drinks to come and the waitress tried to justify it by saying that they had a lot of ingredients, and it took the bartender longer to mix them. But, some of us only had a glass of wine or a soda! Then when our entrees finally arrived (an hour later) some of them were cold. Jake's tries to market itself as a high end steakhouse, but the entire staff would do well to shadow an establishment like Morton's or Shanahan's to learn how a real steakhouse runs. I was, overall, disappointed with our experience. I was in town for business but do not anticipate returning.
I made an online reservation and received a confirmation email. I arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes before my reservation and was told I did not have a reservation. The hostess showed no concern for my situation and cut me off before I could tell her I had a confirmation email.
We love going to Jake's Downtown. It is always our favorite special occasion choice. However, this is the second time we've had this same server and it was just as bad this time as last time. Didn't stop by until after we were seated for almost 15 minutes. We had to ask to order appetizers and then to order our food. She didn't know the menu or how items could be cooked. The food is great, the service just doesn't match. When i'm spending over $50/ person, I expect excellent service. She ruined my birthday experience. Luckily we made our time at dinner worth it by the company we enjoy.
My family and I enjoyed our evening with Pete as our sever. He has been there for several years and he is professional and personal when he helps us. The meals were absolutely wonderful. Large, tasty prime rib and others enjoyed coconut shrimp. The atmosphere is amazing and fun. Thanks Jakes for making my wife's birthday terrific. PS gotta try the butter cake. OMG
A very good restaurant. I and two friends on a hunting trip stopped overnight in Billings and ate here. Two fillets and a prime rib, baked potatoes loaded table side, and fresh, crisp salads (excellent blue cheese dressing!) Good size but not huge martinis, witholives hand stuffed with even more blue cheese! Very attentive servicce. Very nicely done.
Jakes knows steaks. I found this every bit as good as the West side Jakes. It sounds odd to complement steak house for properly cook steaks but that is not always the case. As well the menu provides a host of other proteins equally as well prepared. I can know say that both Jakes surpass all of the local restaurants that I have dined in Billings.
The atmosphere was relaxing and quiet and we were able to carry on a conversation. Food was filling. Don't expect much from the bread as it was bland. Steaks ,potatoes, salad, and French onion soup were delicious. The staff was outstanding. Go early and miss the crowd!
