Jake's - Palm Springs Ratings and Reviews
We were visiting the area to hike and wanted a good small local restaurant w/good food.
Checked reviews and liked the ratings and casualness of Jake’s. We were not terribly happy about our table right by front door but very much liked the people serving us. Our dinners were fine and the wine selection and price point were excellent. If ever this way again from San Diego we would probably stop in again.
We spent New Year's Eve at Jake's, had an excellent waiter, and almost died eating all that delicious cake. My off-menu vegetarian option (quinoa stuffed pepper with avocado) was a great meal considering this place is mostly a grill, and my friends loved their steaks and salmon.
We had another wonderful evening at Jake's. We spent New Years Eve here with family and enjoyed a delicious meal in a very cozy, intimate setting. This is our second year, so it looks like we have a new family tradition.
Our dinners were delicious and the service was outstanding, from start to finish. Thank you, Jake's. We will be back again soon!
New Year's is always a tough dining out night. The problem here was with the hostess. We were on time with our reservation, but she placed us in the worst table in the house. Right in the center path of the front desk, kitchen, bathroom, bar and all the other tables. There was one other table available, but it was pre-set for a larger party (who was late). We asked to move to the side. Her response was poor: we are putting larger tables (4 people!) on the side. If you want to be on the side, you should have requested that with your reservation. Always a good move - to blame the customer for what is just bad luck.
I understand it's New Year's and every table will be used. But can't you show some empathy? This is a very special annual dinner for us, and they treated it like it we were there for a quick bite. Starting off on the wrong foot really became insurmountable once we saw the non-stop parade of employees and customers. Hard to have a conversation when it was so crazy busy and we had to lean in to not be hit in the head with passers-by. It still happened a lot.
Food was very nice, and the server (Mark) was awesome. He was relaxed and did not try to move us through like cattle, even though the hostess was eager to turn our table. You can't clear plates and drop a dessert menu within 15 seconds of putting down a fork. I know you have another party coming in, but really, they are not going any where if they have to wait 5 minutes on NYE. We dropped $200 for dinner. Let the server decide who has over stayed. The table of 4 who took the side table ran passed the end time you gave them, and they were not nudged out. The awkwardness did not stop for us this night.
We like Jake's a lot. This was not their best night for us. I was hoping to start a NYE tradition, but I'll keep looking.
We had reservations at 6:45 and were promptly seated indoors as requested. My husband said his filet was the best he has ever had in Palm Springs. My salmon was perfectly cooked but too heavy on the chick peas. The reason for 3 stars for ambiance is that the tables are very close together.
Had a great dinner at Jake’s! When we arrived for our reservation at 7:15p, our table wasn’t ready for us. It’s easy to understand why, there aren’t many tables to begin with so I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. We opted to have a drink standing at the bar before we sat. Mid way through our drinks, we were brought to our table. Service was excellent, our food also great. We had the sea bass and the eggplant dinners and a special sushi roll for an appetizer. We brought our two small dogs along for dinner and it was great to have them there with us. The ambiance of the restaurant was very cozy and romantic, we will be back for sure!
Jakes's is by far the best and most unique small intimate restaurant in Palm Springs. It evokes Europe and California at the same time. Mainly in a courtyard but always warm enough in winter and cool enough in summer. Great menu and topnotch servers who never leave. Terrific owner who always makes it a point t stop for a moment and check on the patrons. Number one in my book.
Every aspect of our meal here was enjoyable. The service was outstanding, with perfect recommendations on wine, dishes for our kids, and entrees. Loved all the dishes--meatloaf, chicken Milanese and branzino special. As our meals have gone in Palm Springs, quite reasonable too. Highly recommend. And nice outdoor dining too.
We have eaten at Jake's twice and really like it. The food was excellent, perfectly cooked salmon with great side dishes, and ribs that had an interesting glaze, not at all BBQ sauce. Very good service, nice wine with a real pour not a sip, and great cakes for dessert. We will go every time we're in Palm Springs.
Jake's is favorite and going there is like visiting a friend's home. I'm always welcomed. The food is great, though I have to admit that I go back and forth between two dishes nearly every time: the Miami Vice and Ahi Tuna salads. However, next time I'm going to have a steak salad one of my friends had, though I don't see it on the menu at the moment when I searched for its name (perhaps it was a special).
One of the reasons I like dining at Jake's is the outside patio. The weather in Palm Springs is perfect (and will be until late May!), so the patio is delightful. It's small and enclosed on one side by a huge ficus hedge. You feel cozy and "outdoors" at the same time.
A local business owner recommended Jake's to us. We sat our outside, where the ambiance and service was very good. My girlfriend got the meatloaf -and she liked it. I got the NY strip steak and I was disappointed. I had ordered it medium-rare but it was delivered to the table overcooked and the cut was very mealy, tough and bland.
GIven Jake's fairly limited menu I would expect them to excel at each dish that they offer, but this unfortunately was not the case -- at least tonight. I can't speak to the rest of the menu as there were only two of us, but I'm not sure I would return to Jake's or recommend it to a friend.
