Limited Menu, awkward seating, high priced food. Nice view of marina and harbor. Not sure view is worth the high prices and limited food options.
I was disappointed with my first-time experience with my family. I had hoped to experience a dining experience similar to Kimo’s on Maui. First of all, our hostess sits our party to a corner table where kids had eaten and leftover food was scattered on the floor. Then, I ordered clam chowder soup that had little clams and tastes more like a bland potato soup. The 2 appetizers were fine. I was surprised that we were charged for dinner rolls at $3.00 for 2 rolls. I thought that was unheard of before but we ordered the rolls anyways. These rolls were not even warm. My dinner was the Mac Nut Halibut with black rice. It was not tasty at all. Just to be kind, I took my leftovers home but ended up throwing it away the next morning. The fish was not fresh and the rice was oily. My daughter’s Hulu Hulu chicken was not like we expected served with slivered apples. Not sure but I think we will not be adding this restaurant to our favorites list. Disappointing experience would not recommend.
Hello and thank you for your feedback. My sincerest apologies that your experience at Jake's was not up to your expectations, nor our standards. I do hope that my staff did their best to rectify these issues at the time of your meal, should they have been made aware of them. I do hope that you choose to give Jake's another try, and if you do, please reach out to me directly, noah@jakestahoe. Additionally, we will use your review as a teaching point for our staff. Thank you again.
We had a fantastic evening! from the staff, food and the gorgeous view, our experience was excellent.
Amazing food and service as always! The heat lamps weren't working very well so it was uncomfortably chilly outside.
Wonderful view and service.
Great food with ambiance and an unbelievable view
Booked 3 weeks in advance for our anniversary. They sat us at the worst table under the stairs next to a very loud and obnoxious table. They care more about one time business rather than repeat business. It was super busy and overbooked. Food was just ok definitely not worth the price. Way better places to go. We’re locals but won’t be back.
Sorry but the calamari was terrible the Caesar salad was terrible the calamari was over cooked and the Caesar salad had zero flavor and the lettuce wasn’t the croutons looked like you bought them at the grocery store it was really a terrible meal the staff however were fantastic
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Will dine there again.
The pork chop was tender and the sauce was delicious.
We celebrated my Mom’s 74th with a wonderful dinning experience at Jakes. The food, service, and view could not have been any better!
Loved it! Excellent service with an outdoor table!
Hula pie was serviced on the house for our Birthday girl!
Fantastic food...Try the Crab Cakes!
Our waitress was outstanding...Nina R. Is spectacular!
Overpriced marginal food - you're clearly paying for the view. Third time I've eaten here in last two years and won't be going back
It was great
The food and the view were great as always. The services was slow and a little dismissive. The table next to us seem to have great service. Their server and others from the restaurant staff were there quite a bit. They seemed to know one person at the table. Our waiter barely visited our table. He seemed in a hurry and too busy to actually share information.
In fairness, he appeared to have many tables with larger parties so he probably was too busy to show any attention to our 2-person table.
Always LOVE Jakes on the Lake. Our server Laurie or Lori (not sure how to spell it) was fantastic, the food was excellent and they were super COVID aware.
Thank you for the positive feedback! I'll be sure to mention it to Laurie! We take pride in not only meeting, but exceeding the guidelines set forth by the state and CDC. Reviews like yours remind us that we are continuing on the right path. Thanks again! Aloha, Noah
The short ribs were delicious. The clam chowder not so much. I am accustomed to and prefer a thinner liquid. Similar to how it is typically served on the East Coast.
NICE PLACE ON THE LAKE. GOOD FOOD!
Lovely, delicious dining experience with a stunning view of the lake.
My wife ordered the short ribs and we asked the waiter if the glaze was sweet. He said no. It was sickly sweet and tasted like cotton candy. Bleh. I ordered what should have been a safer dish, a steak. Poor cut of meat and everything on the plate was tepid. How can that be if we were about the first table served? Have been going for 10 years, but no more.
Fabulous Evening.. Great Service, Great Food, Great Ambiance! Will Definitely be back because we love ,”Jake’s on the Lake!”
We had an amazing time! Food was great and the macadamia dessert was off the hook.
Great service, food and views. What more could you want.
Food deeee-lish. Cocktails can't go wrong. By observation, patrons were seated faily far apart. My wife and I were seated outside on the deck which being around 5pm had a wonderful fall view with the beautiful yellow leaves kissing onto the summer green. The lake was calm with a light breeze. The Menu offers a short but focused menu ranging from sea food to chicken. Because of my Lupus I can't with the Sea food and because of my Celiacs definitely not eating Gluten. Now the menu definately does not notate in anyway gluten free. You will feel like you have to say something. I didnt. The menu was self explanatory. I had the Apple Walnut Salad to start with the Jidori Huli Huli Chicken being my main course, paired with Spiced Blood Orange Prosecco Punch Coacktail. The Chicken is Gluten free. My wife being the Lucky Gluten eater started with the Warm Baked Brie, Slow BraisedShort Ribs and paired it with Warm Kahlua Coffee spiked. Together with Tip for a table of 2 we spent 150 with 20.00 Gratuity. The only thing I would encourage management to change with indicating menu as to which meals are gluten free, instead of having to ask a waitress about gluten, when they have no clue as to what your referring to.
Everything was excellent!
We had the halibut and sea bass. They were delicious!!
The setting was perfect. The wait staff was attentive without being obnoxious. The salmon special was delicious. The short ribs were a bit tough. The ribs definitely needed to be cooked longer for the desired tenderness
The sea bass my girlfriend got was under cooked.
Would have been a 5 star if we did not have to wait for 30 minutes
I had always heard good things about Jakes on the Lake and Decided to check it out instead of our usual go—to, Garwoods. We were extremely disappointed. In the pandemic, I’ve lowered my expectations and given all restaurants and their employees the benefit of doubt because I know they are under tremendous pressure. The same privilege was applied here. We arrived to our 8pm reservation a couple minutes early and were told that they were cleaning a few tables and to wait outside. It took 25+ minutes to seat us, at which time we were seated at the worst table on the deck....furthest from the lake, next to the busy bus station. That happens. There was a better table (not much better) open, but I refrained from asking for it. Next, we were not approached for a good 10 minutes. Finally we had a drink and appetizer order taken. When I asked for set-ups, as the table next to us was given them upon being seated, our server took offense and acted as if my request was a reflection on her. It wasn’t, but then by her attitude, it became so. We ordered oysters. I don’t eat them, but the other 2 diners were going to share. We got one order and it was pathetic. There were 4 oysters, which ended up not even being that good; each were between the sized of a nickel and a quarter....for$18. Ripoff. I ordered the soup of the day, chicken tortilla. It was like a thick paste with very little chicken; by no means anything “Special”. Since we had a late lunch, we ordered salads for our entrees. All three of them were tremendously overdressed. Mine was so soggy that I literally couldn’t even eat 1/2 of it. After our food arrived, our server disappeared so there was no point in complaining. We just wanted to pay and get out of there. We asked for the check from someone else and still no server. I happened to have cash so we just paid cash. As we were leaving, she finally reappeared. I expressed my displeasure. She really didn’t care. We won’t return.
Amazing all around!
Excellent. The food and the ambiance were so much better than other restaurants. Loved it
Great outdoor seating with view of the lake. Food was good (not great), but a bit over priced.
Beautiful setting on the deck overlooking Lake Tahoe at Tahoe City!
Nice outdoor dining experience
Jakes was OK, but we arrive early for our reservation (at OPENING) and were told to wait until they opened at 5 in some Adirondack chairs they had set out, away from and out of sight of the entrance to the dining area. We sat there an additional 10 minutes past the opening, thinking someone would come and get us (since we had a reservation, and identified ourselves when we arrived). By the time we realized they weren't coming to get us, they had seated many other people, and we nearly lost our outdoor seating
Once seated, the service was great, but the Mahi Mahi fish dinner which two of our party ordered was utterly flavorless. We thought maybe the chef forgot to add the seasonings.
The short ribs were divine, however!
Dinner date with girlfriend after weekend wedding
