Jake's Del Mar Ratings and Reviews
Great location overlooking the surf in Del Mar. Not sure if the menu changes often or not, but a warning - the cumin on the seared tuna was a little overwhelming and distracted from the taste of the perfect tuna. If you love a lot of cumin, well this will be just fine.
Dinner was lovely. We began with a round of cocktails and two appetizers, the tuna sashimi which was good, and the crab cakes, which were excellent (all crab, little filler!) Although I felt a little rushed to order entrées, they were delicious as well. We ordered a bottle of the Banshee Pinot Noir which paired well with the Opa, Swordfish and Scallops. All were tasty! We finished with the Salted Caramel Crème Brulee, and the Peanut Butter Chocolate Torte, both of which I'd recommend! Overall it was a wonderful evening! They do keep the door open, (even on a 50 degree night), so I'd recommend bringing a coat to keep warm, or sitting outside under a heat lamp!
Went here (first time) for a birthday dinner. The hostess attended to our reservation pretty fast, and we were seated under 10mins. The place was a little louder than I expected, but the ambience and Friday evening feel was good. The beach was a little foggy, so there wasn't much to watch outside (though after sunset the beach is illuminated by outdoor lights).
Food was amazing and so was the service. Havi/Xavi, sorry I didn't catch the full name, was our server and was fantastic.
Overall, the birthday girl was happy, I am happy, so thanks Jakes!
We were celebrating a visit from a long time friend, and a birthday; had a fabulous meal with truly excellent service. Our wait person, a cheerful and burly bearded guy, was extra fun, took the time to be friendly and outgoing, and we enjoyed him immensely. From our amazing starters (the ahi!) through our main courses (all spectacular) to the desserts (the salted caramel creme brulee was a group favorite) - we were replete and so very happy.
The waiter was terrible...ice tea was foggy and tasted like it was a week old...asked for sweetener and was told that they had no premium sweetener...only generic and sugar. We had to ask twice for bread and sweetener. We were never offered or asked if we needed anything or how our meal was. Very poor service for any restaurant, but extremely disappointing for what has always been one of my favorite restaurants.
Nice ambience. OK service. Not at all impressed with the quality of the food. Menu has changed in past year. They used to have a nice menu, good food, nice flavors. They must have changed Chefs, and we did not like the food and flavoring of anything on the menu, except for the pear and the apple walnut salads. Hopefully they revise their menu, otherwise we will not be going back again. Sad, this used to be one of our favorite restaurants.
This restaurant has always been a favorite for us. On our last dining experience at Jakes, 3 of the 4 of us found a hair in our food. Geez what are the chances that 3 of us would have hair in our food. The staff was very apologetic. Needless to say, we were disappointed this happened because it’s overall a great place to dine.
Great food and service! They accommodated our reservation request for an ocean-facing table, and also had a nice anniversary card for us when we got there. In terms of food, there are limited vegetarian/vegan options. But unlike most places, where vegetarian food is generally pretty make-shift, the options at Jake's are actually really tasty and all you need for a sumptuous filling meal. All 3 things that we ordered had really unique flavors that we hadn't experienced anywhere before. Also, the Hula Pie is a definite MUST-HAVE, regardless of how full you are!
We have loved Jake’s at the beach for years. Bring friend, family, and work colleagues here often for a great dining experience. This year, empty nesters, we came for Thanksgiving. Made it a point not to order turkey, as we wanted a normal Jake’s menus meal. Got the seafood pot (cioppino, in effect. ). Outstanding meal. Made all the better by waiter Derek Ahia, who we had some common ground with, not to mention a fantastic sunset over the beach. Hope to see him there when we come back, several times each year.
Keep up your great standards for food, service, and ambiance.!
Beachside dining; great atmosphere & wonderful service. Large windows face the ocean & have see-through blinds to keep the heat of the sun off. Fans provide cooling fresh air. The food is delicious, & the choices are varied. Don't miss the seafood gumbo, or whatever it is they call it. Big sections of lobster, plus yummy shrimp & other fish, & the broth is not too tomato-y, thankfully, so the seafood flavors really shine.
We were seated at the window just as the sun was setting. The view was perfect. Adam our server was terrific! He had several tables going and never missed a beat. Shrimp scampi was perfect and the other two had the boil which they loved. Dauo Cabernet was great too. Cannot say enough good things. Best meal on our trip by far
It was lovely to have a reserved table by the ocean waiting for us when we arrived. The servers were very attentive. The food was very good, but not ultra memorable, but we have high standards. The complimentary dessert for our anniversary was a nice touch.
Great place for a birthday celebration; we had a beautiful ocean view, server Ashley was very attentatve & my swordfish lunch was delicious. It was prepared perfectly & was so good! You must order the decadent Hula pie, macadamia nut ice cream with fudge sauce & more Mac nuts. I was very impressed with the food & cant wait to return.
We had dinner last weekend? And had a reservation for 6 people. It was about 35 minutes later that we were seated. It took forever to get the drinks and, even though our waiter was awesome & friendly, the food just wasn’t up too par. We have eaten at Jakes many times before, whenever in the Delane Mar area. The beach setting is beautiful, but not in a hurry to return there any time soon.
made a last minute reservation, and were lucky to get in. Busy and bustling at 1:30, mid-week. We were seated by the window. Menu has changed since i was last there, several years ago. Limited it seemed, not a ton of seafood, as I recalled it mostly served. I had the crab cake appetizer and it was very crabby, no filling - DELISH! and the pear salad which also was very good. Our server was very good; great ambiance. Love the $5 valet service too...
